( james ) breaking news this morning... crews are working to put out a fire that broke out at a black angus resteruant in pleasant hill. people in the area say they heard popping noises then the fire broke out. no word of any injuries or the extent of the damages from the blaze. we'll bring you more on this fire as the information enters our newsroom. ( james ) our top story. the entire town of mariposa forced to evacuate. this after a raging wildfire shows no signs of slowing down.( darya ) and now, governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency for the detwiler fire. eight homes are gone and more than a thousand firefighters are on scene battling the blaze. kron4's charles clifford talked to several people at an evacuation center forced from their homes. natsthrough the day tuesday, evacuees fleeing the detwiler fire arrived here at the red cross's evacuation center in planada. most had to leave their homes in a hurry. soti had a bad gut feeling it was coming our waysotwe had ash falling on us.sotyou could see the smoke and fire coming over the hill.kim strauss believes his home is gone. soti'd be really surprised if it's still standing.he and his girlfriend saw the wildfire coming over the ridge near their house tuesday morning. the sheriff's department gave them 10 minutes to leave and they packed up what little would fit in kim's truck .soti got my clothes and i grabbed my girlfriend's dresser. her pictures and i mom's stuff and the dogs.they now plan on staying here in planada until they figure out what to do next. the loss of their home is taking an sotit hurts yeah. it's our first home. i worked hard on it and now it's gone. for the other evacuees, it's now a wait and see if their homes are still standing.sot anyone would be nervoussotwe trust in jesus. we know he can take care of us. if our house burns down we will trust in him. or we can trust in him to keep us safe whatever his plan is.sotas soon as we get the all clear to go up there. we would like to go see what's left. . in planada, charles clifford kron 4 news. (tiffany) in southern california... containment is up on another big california fire. the "whittier fire" in santa barbara county is now 66-percent contained. it has destroyed 46 structures including 16 homes... and burned more than 18-thousand acres. more than 2- thousand firefighters are working to put it out. (tiffany) in the south bay... a drone flying in the area of the mount eden fire caused cal fire to ground their helicopter. forcing firefighters to fight the flames for a time without the help of the chopper. crews on the scene say losing the helicopter only complicated things and made the situation far more dangerous. but there was a shelter in place for neighbors. ( james ) in marin county. fire officals and rescue personnel are searching for a missing boater in tomales bay. authorites received an emergency call around three yesterday afternoon. crews were able to recover a motorboat a few hours later. but the boat's operator remians missing. authorities say the misisng man was by himself and not wearing a life jacket. (tiffany) security is being ramped up at san francisco's twin peaks after a murder over the weekend. police say local photographer- edward french was robbed then shot to death sunday morning. his killers have not been caught. now police are patroling twin peaks around the clock. and the department is considering surveillance cameras as a long term solution. there is a history of crimes at twin peaks. a few weeks before french was killed, three people were robbed at the viewpoint. and back in 20-16 two men were killed and another injured in the same spot. ( james ) a group of ten young adults and teenagers robbed a muni rider in san francisco. this is just the latest in a string of similar robberies on local mass transit.(tiffany) kron4's spencer blake spoke to muni riders who say they aren't surprised by what happened. (ding ding)taking public transportationis just part of big city life."monday through friday.""every day."but monday night it was also unwanted trouble for a man who got into an argument with another guy riding muni.to avoid further conflict, the first man got off and hopped on a different bus, but ten people followed, bum-rushed him, stole his phone, and took off."i've seen fights on the muni and the train, so yeah, i think you have to be cautious."but a city report on the municipal transportation agency shows you might be able to relax a little bit more on muni. they've been keeping track of crime that happens on the buses and trainsand the trend is heading downhill - on a graph anyway.not only has muni's crime rate been getting lower for four years, but it's currently about five point three crimes per one hundred thousand miles of muni service - well below the m-t-a's goal of five point seven."i feel very safe. i don't have a complaint about that kind of public transportation."this graph from the city shows how those crimes break down.the green represents larceny, or theft without force.the dark red is robbery, and the light red is assault - generally a small percentage of each month's crimes."hearing those numbers that i did not know i think it's a bit encouraging, i would say, to hear those numbers. and i guess actually it will make me look at it a little differently, actually." m-t-a credits an increased police presence since 2013 as the main reason for the decline in crime.but even with the pleasant news, it's still a good idea to have safety in mind when you plan your muni trip."ya know this is the middle of the afternoon. it would be different if i were coming out at night. i might feel different."(reporter)you can find these reports and crime statistics about muni on the city's website.just search for city performance scorecards.in san francisco, spencer blake, kron four news. ( james ) it is a burglary that sounds like something out of a hollywood movie. a pair of theives broke into this verizon wireless store in cupertino, it happened monday just before 6am. the two suspects took more than $139- thousand dollars worth of cellphones and other electronic devices. police say the pair disabled the store alarm and surveillance cameras. and they did not stop there. are 40-year-old tan nguyen of san jose and 38-year-old marc tran of american canyon. they are now both under arrest. (tiffany) a driver died after he crashed into a utility pole in danville. the crash happened yesterday morning at around 10:30 a.m. on stone valley road near monte vista high school. the driver was taken to a local hospital where he later died. officers are not yet releasing the victim's name. no other vehicles were involved and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. (tiffany) in the east bay... two u-c berkeley students have been arrested for vandalism. police say ismael chamu and peter estrada spray-painted hate speech graffiti messages against police officers and white people near the campus. the messages were found late last month. police say chamu and estrada vandalized people's cars and fences south of the university's main campus. the two have been charged with felony vandalism and misdemeanor possession of tools to commit vandalism or graffiti. berkeley police are also recommending the two be charged with hate crimes. ( james @ landing) another big story we are following this morning... bart says it will explore all avenues to begin recruiting more police officers. kron 4's dan kerman has the details. with traffic congestion getting worse and worse everyday few would argue major improvements are needed but are people willing to fund those improvements by paying 3 dollars more to cross the bay area's 7 state owned bridges. soti would pay 5 dollars if it would reduce congestion,soti would not pay 3 dollars because everytime we put money into one of these huge projects we never see the end result.not this time says backers of the plansot john grubb/bay area council 30-36 there's projects that target the entire region, north bay, south bay east bay, san francisco and the peninsula, everyone should be seeing improvements.john grubb is with the bay area council,, which backs the toll hike. he says the idea is to reduce traffic gridlock by expanding improving troubled interchanges, adding express lanes, and improving public transit that includes hundreds of more bart cars and an expansion of ferry servicesotwe're talking 20-30 new boats and they could be up and running and you could take a ferry from anywhere in the north bay to silicon valley employersultimately it will be for commuters to decide sotwe need transportation improvements we all know this, are we will to reach into our wallets and pay a little more to get the improvements we know we needstandup dan kerman/bay bridge toll plaza 123-133legislators are putting the finishing touches on the ballot measure, if approved it will go out to a vote of the public in the bay area, either in june or november of next year. at the bb toll plaza, dk k4n 138/std (tiffany) one of the victims in that brutal attack on bart where a mob hijacked a train for a short time and terrorized riders is now speaking out. and one of the main issues is the police department refusing to release video of the attack. ( james ) as kron four's terisa estacio reports, the victim says he believes the video must be released for the public's safety. rusty stapp - says he and his family - are still shaken up about that violent attack on a bart train - he says that is what brought him here to the bart directors committee meeting tuesday - he says he wanted to make his case directly to directors - pleading with them to releave the video tape of the attack - and here's why. rusty stapp, victim in mob attack on bart. "i think its one of the steps bart needs to take to protect, and that is to informthe public o fincidence it helps inform the passengers of whats going on recognize these things and work with the agency on how to prevent these things in the future. stapp is suing the agency about the attack. stapp. i couldn't live with myself if i did not act and this ever happened again, i am frankly amazed someone has not gotten seriously injured or killed on bart. stapp says his family is still dealing with the trauma of the event. the family was on bart heading home to dublin from celebrating his daughters' 19th birthday. stapp. i was beaten, by 3 individuals, purse stolen, phones. stolen. as for bart, the chief says they considered releasing the video but then choice not to. chief carlos rojas, bart police chief. ( james ) in the east bay, a teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of killing a 20- year-old woman in may. police say allie sweitzer was shot multiple times at booker t. anderson junior park in richmond. it happened following a heated argument with at least one man. sweitzer was taken to a hospital where she later died. a 15-year-old boy from el cerrito was arrested last night for that shooting. police have not released any information on the teenager. (tiffany) a trial date has been set for the the woman charged with orchestrating the murder of her children's father in redwood city. this is video from april when tiffany li posted a record- breaking bail amount of 35- million dollars. her family came up with the money. li pleaded not guilty to murder and directing her boyfriend and another man to kill keith green. prosecutors say she feared losing custody of her children. a judge has set a new trial date for january of next year. (tiffany) a san francisco woman is opening up about a terrifying encounter over the weekend when she witnessed a coyote grab and kill her dog. it happened on the dog owner's porch on aptos avenue in the ingleside neighborhood. ( james ) the woman tells kron four's philippe djegal that people around there are seeing coyotes more and more. (philippe)jodi kimel/witnessed attack- "i saw the coyote, like just come up to the steps." as jodi kimel was walking back into her house with her two dogs early sunday morning... one of them, a 13-year-old shih tzu, named bella, was whisked away by a coyote before reaching the door.jodi kimel/witnessed attack- "my husband saw the coyote carrying bella." jodi and her husband grabbed some flashlights and searched the neighborhood for the dog they rescued eight years ago. jodi kimel/witnessed attack- "and, as we looked west down toward san benito, we saw something laying on a neighbor's front lawn and it was, um, bella. who, thankfully, was not ripped apart. you know, she was in one piece, just looking, you know, like she was just sleeping on the front lawn." what concerns jodi the most though... is the unclear reason why the coyote snatched bella in the first place... because, right now, it appears it was done just for sport.jodi kimel/witnessed attack- "it was so senseless. i mean, if it was for food, why not follow through?" san francisco animal care and control says coyotes have been living in the area since the early 2000's. and, that there may be as many as 100 coyotes living in the city. jodi kimel/witnessed attack- "i mean, you can walk around the streets here and you'll find coyote's sitting on the front lawns of people, midday. two o'clock in the afternoon, taking a nap." animal care and control says it's officers make routine rounds through the ingleside neighborhood... and, that attacks on humans are rare, although they do happen.jodi kimel/witnessed attack- "it didn't care. i mean, whoever says coyotes stay away from the people and are only are only after small animals, i don't believe that anymore." animal care and control says rounding up the coyotes and relocating them is not on the table. in san francisco, philippe djegal, kron four news. ( james ) happening now... a youth soccer organization is scrambling after loosing all of it's equipment. the american youth's soccer organization in daly city had its storage unit vandalised over the weekend. the storage pod was located at westmoor high school in daly city. organization official's say all of the equipment, snacks and the first aid supplies were taken. it is a non-profit, volunteer run organization. a go-fund-me page has been started to help them purchase new supplies. the fall leagues starts in just two weeks. (tiffany) a disability rights organization has filed a class-action lawsuit against uber. the group claims uber discriminates against riders with disabilities by not providing enough access to vehicles that can accommodate wheelchairs. the lawsuit says uber offers wheelchair- accessible vehicles through its uberwav service. those vehicles account for fewer than 100 of the 58 thousand uber vehicles dispatched in the city. uber says its technology has expanded access to reliable transportation for those with disabilities. (tiffany) ultra-low cost carrier frontier airlines is doubling in size. frontier announced its expansion yesterday. the airline will add 21 new cities and 85 new routes. sunny locales like miami,tampa, and orlando florida along with cancun, mexico will all get expanded service. san jose is the one new bay area city added to the list. frontier is hoping to operate 314 non-stop flights by next summer. that's double what it currently flies. ( james ) in national news... fire investigators in hawaii are now searching for excellerents that may have caused a high-rise to go up in flames last week. investigators are using an arson dog to search the area where they believe the fire began. the fire killed three people and injured a dozen others. fire officials say the search does not necessarily mean there is a criminal element to their investigation... and the apartments are not being considered a crime scene. the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives is also assisting in the investigaiton. ( james ) the latest senate republican health care bill is dead in the water due to lack of support from both parties. but what does this latest failed attempt mean for you?(tiffany) reporter rick damigella reports. sen. mitch mcconnell/ -r- majority leader: "everybody's given it their best shot. and as of today, we just simply do not have 50 senators who can agree on what ought to replace the existing law." after seven years of republicans vowing to repeal and replace obamacare, the latest attempt by senate republicans has failed.gop leaders are insisting there will still be a vote. but at this point, majority leader mitch mcconnell concedes it might just be to repeal the affordable care act and replace it later. something president donald trump echoed on tuesday. president trump: "i've been saying for a long time, let obamacare fail, and then everybody's going to have to come together and fix it." now, the big question, what does that mean for your health care in the immediate future? while the administration's position on many of the provisions in obamacare are unclear, many lawmakers, including mcconnell,have acknowledged that they must stabilize it. at least for now. sen. mitch mcconnell/ -r- majority leader: "we will now try a different way to bring the american people relief from obamacare. i think we owe them at least that much."but the political back and forth is worrying insurers. they have until late september to decide if they are going to play on the marketplace exchange in 2018. just less than two months before open begins.i'm rick damigella, reporting. (tiffany) president trump is still working on keeping his campaign promise on building a wall along the u.s. mexico border. house republicans say they're moving as early as next week to fund the commander in chief one point six billion dollars to begin building the wall. gop leaders have decided to attach the money to a spending bill for the defense department. it would build 74 miles of fencing and levee between the rio grande valley in texas and near san diego. ( darya ) breaking overnight... five fires breakout overnight in the east bay... and firefighters are calling them suspicious.( tiffany ) kron 4's lydia pantazes is live in antioch this morning with the details. lydia. ( lydia ) there were five brush fires in antioch all of them within a mile of each other. this is one of the areas burned.... as you can see the hillside is charred but firefighters were able to get here quickly before it did any damage to nearby structures. this fire is right next to the antioch united methodist church. in fact, the flames came within a few feet of the church structure. investigators are investigating these fires as suspicious because they happened so close together and within an hour of each other. so far, we have not received any suspect descriptions. reporting live in antioch, kron4 news. ( darya ) breaking news this morning... crews are working to put out a fire that broke out at a black angus resteruant in pleasant hill. people in the area say they heard popping noises then the fire started. no word of any injuries or the extent of the damages from the blaze. ( darya ) happening now... rescue crews are searching for a missing boater in tomales bay. authorities received an emergency call yesterday afternoon. crews recovered a boat a few hours later but the boat's operator remains missing this morning. the missing man was by himself and was not wearing a light jacket. ( tiffany ) happening now... a man is recovering after a shooting in san mateo and the shooter is still on the loose this morning. it happened last night on south delaware street near sunnybrae elementary school. (ááátriggerááá) the victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. police say the shooter then got in a red car as the passenger and took off. police have not yet released a description of the shooter. ( tiffany ) police arrest two men accused of a daring burglary at a verizon store in cupertino. the two suspected thieves took more than 130-thousand dollars worth of cellphones and other electronics. police say the pair disabled the store alarm and surveillance cameras before breaking in through the roof: said what the two world leaders discussed. ( darya ) special investigator robert mueller says he will now begin looking into the meeting between donald trump junior and a russian lawyer. a lawyer for one of the people at the meeting says he will answer questions for mueller's investigation. eight people attended this meeting between the president's son and the russian lawyer who was offering damaging information on the clinton campaign. the white house claims nothing came out of that meeting. ( darya ) two u-c berkeley students have been arrested for vandalism. police say ismael chamu and peter estrada spray-painted anti-police graffiti near the campus. the graffiti also made comments directed at white-people. police say chamu and estrada vandalized people's cars and fences south of the university's main campus. the two have been charged with felony vandalism. berkeley police are also recommending charged with ( darya ) after witnessing a coyote attack and kill her dog...a san francisco woman is raising concerns about increased coyote sightings near her home. jodi kimel says a coyote snatched her 13-year-old shih tzu named "bella" right off of her porch on aptos avenue. bella was later found dead down the street. kimel says in recent years, coyote's have become more bold, attacking and killing cats in the ingleside neighborhood and now her dog. she also says it appears the coyotes are not afraid of humans. san francisco animal care and control says there may be as many as 100 coyotes living in the city. ( tiffany ) new details are emerging about the florida home that was destroyed by a sinkhole. neighbors say a sinkhole opened up at the home five years ago. at that time, engineers recommended a repair that would cost 150-thousand dollars. instead the previous owners went with a much cheaper plan which merely stabilized the home. officials say the engineer who stabilized the home filed an incorrect document saying the sinkhole was properly repaired. the home was listed for sale just a few months later. ( tiffany ) a man who was attacked by a mob of teenagers on bart spoke out to directors during a safety meeting. rusty stapp is suing bart over the attack and is pleading with the agency to release the surveillance video of the incident. his family was heading home to dublin after celebrating his daughters' birthday back in april. that's when he says he was beaten, and his phone and his wife's purse were stolen. stapp says releasing the video is one of the steps bart needs to take to protect its passengers. and then threatened to start shooting at police. jacquez was also wanted in connection to a murder that happened 4 days before he was shot. ( lydia )there were five brush fires in antioch all of them within a mile of each other. this is one of the areas burned....as you can see the hillside is charred but firefighters were able to get here quickly before it did any damage to nearby structures. this fire is right next to the antioch united methodist church.in fact, the flames came within a few feet of the church structure.investigators are investigating these fires as suspicious because they happened so close together and within an hour of each other. so far, we have not received any suspect descriptions. reporting live in antioch, lydia pantazes kron4 news. ( darya ) in the south bay... a fire burning in sara toga is now 75% contained. the fire started monday afternoon spreading along a ridge near the mountain winery. it has burned 10 acres. there have been no reports of any injuries.. ( tiffany ) happening now... a man is recovering after a shooting in san mateo and the shooter is still on the loose this morning. it happened last night on south delaware street near sunnybrae elementary school. (ááátriggerááá) the victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. police say the shooter then got in a red car and took off. police have not yet released a description of the shooter. ( tiffany ) new this morning... a steel worker was injured at the construction site of the new facebook building in menlo park. this is the second injury at the facebook construction site this year. officials are just now telling us about the worker who fell from the fourth floor yesterday morning. he was on a steel frame when a piece of steel or decking he stepped on dislodged. he fell 15 feet, but his harness stopped him from falling any further. firefighters say the worker has some scrapes and bruises but is expected to be okay. cal/osha are investigating both of the injuries this year. this is the second injury at the facebook construction site. the last incident happened on april 26. kron four's yoli acevas is headed to the scene now with a live report. ( darya ) happening now... rescue crews are searching for a missing boater in tomales bay. authorities received an emergency call yesterday afternoon. crews recovered a boat a few hours later but the boat's operator remains missing this morning. the missing man was by himself and was not light jacket. ( darya ) police arrest two men accused of a daring burglary at a verizon store in cupertino. the two suspected thieves took more than 130-thousand dollars worth of cellphones and other electronics. police say the pair disabled the store alarm and surveillance cameras before breaking in through the roof: they were both arrested. ( tiffany ) the white house has confirmed that president trump and russian president vladimir putin spoke for a second time at the g-20 summit... in a previously undisclosed meeting. this was in addition to their scheduled two hour meeting earlier at the summit. the white house says the two spoke for about an hour but have not said what the two world leaders discussed. ( tiffany ) special investigator robert mueller says he will now begin looking into the meeting between donald trump junior and a russian lawyer. a lawyer for one of the people at the meeting says he will answer questions for mueller's investigation. eight people attended this meeting between the president's son and the russian lawyer who was offering damaging information on the clinton campaign. the white house claims nothing came out of that meeting. ( darya ) we are learning new information about the moments before a deadly officer shooting of a woman in minneapolis. an officer says he was startled by a loud sound near the squad car he was driving before his partner shot and killed justine damond. the 40-year-old australian woman had called 9-1-1 to report a possible sexual assault near her home over the weekend. investigators say she was shot as she approached the driver's side window of the cruiser, immediately after the loud noise. the city says it plans to release the transcript of damond's 9-1-1 call after it is shared with family members. damond moved to minneapoolis from austrialia to live with her fiance. they were set to be married next month. ( darya ) skeletal remains found by a hiker in moraga belong to a man who was reported missing nearly 20 years ago. a d-n-a lab in richmond confirmed yesterday that the remains belonged to richard saimons. a hiker found those remains near a creek back in march. he was reported missing in 19-98 after leaving his home and never returning. he was 37- years-old at the time. investigators were unable to determine a cause of death, however they did not find any signs of foul play. ( tiffany ) two u-c berkeley students have been arrested for vandalism. police say ismael chamu and peter estrada spray-painted anti-police graffiti near the campus. the graffiti also made comments directed at white-people. police say chamu and estrada vandalized people's cars and fences south of the university's main campus. the two have been charged with felony vandalism. berkeley police are also recommending the two be charged with hate crimes. ( tiffany ) after witnessing a coyote attack and kill her dog...a san francisco woman is raising concerns about increased coyote sightings near her home. jodi kimel says a coyote snatched her 13-year-old shih tzu named "bella" right off of her porch on aptos avenue. bella was later found dead down the street. kimel says in recent years, coyote's have become more bold, attacking and killing cats in the ingleside neighborhood and now her dog. she also says it appears the coyotes are not afraid of humans. san francisco animal care and control says there may be as many as 100 coyotes living in the city. ( darya @ land ) a woman in saudi arabia is arrested after posting a video of her wearing a mini-skirt and crop top in public. police say the woman was detained for violating the kingdom's conservative islamic dress code. in the short video, the woman is walking around a historic fort with no one else around. the video sparked outrage in the country calling for her arrest for disobeying saudi rules. it requires all woman living in the kingdom to ear long loose robes, and must cover their face. ( tiffany ) president trump is moving one step closer to building the wall along the u-s mexico border. the house of representatives is expected to vote on a spending bill as early as next week that would pay for part of the wall. g-o-p leaders have decided to attach the money to a spending bill for the defense department. it would build 74 miles of fencing and levee wall in the rio grande valley in texasand near san diego. ( tiffany ) we are now learning that the hazardous material that closed the atherton avenue overpass over highway 101 in novato was pool cleaning material. this is a story we first broke to you yesterday in the kron four morning news. several containers spilled onto the on-ramp at around 7:30 yesterday morning. investigators believe the four gallons of acid were not properly secured in a car and slid off when it made a turn onto the on-ramp. the roads were closed for about three hours. ( darya ) a southern california boy is laid to rest and his father remains in jail accused of killing him. this is video as friends and family gathered to say pay their respects to 5-year-old aramazd andressian junior in south pasadena yesterday. he went missing two months ago after police say he went to disneyland with his father. the boy's body was later found near a lake in santa barbara county. at the service, the boy's mother read a letter she wrote to her son. ( darya ) andressian senior has pleaded not guilty to the murder. police say the motive for the killing is a "tumultuous divorce". ( tiffany ) new details are emerging about the florida home that was destroyed by a sinkhole. neighbors say a sinkhole opened up at the home five years ago. at that time, engineers recommended a repair that would cost 150-thousand dollars. instead the previous owners went with a much cheaper plan which merely stabilized the home. officials say the engineer who stabilized the home filed an incorrect document saying the sinkhole was properly repaired. the home was listed for sale just a few months later. ( darya ) san francisco is set to create an office dedicated solely to marijuana. the "office of cannabis" will handle permits and complaints. it will also serve as a centralized resource for the public and marijuana businesses. the city put 700-thousand dollars in thebudget to create the new office. there are 39 dispensaries licensed to operate in san francisco. another 28 applications are being processed.
