States attorney called grays death a homicide and his arrest illegal and unjustified. She made the decision to go forward just one day after getting an initial report from the Police Department. Baltimores mayor said police must be held accountable. I was sickened and heartbroken by the statement of charges that we heard today. Because no one in our city is above the law. Justice must apply to all of us equally. Protests in the streets for the past four days, there was some relief today. The charges range from assault to murder. The Police Officers union insists the officers are innocent. Freddie gray suffered a severe spinal injury while in Police Custody and died a week later. And we just learned here that the six officers charged in this case have posted bond and that five of them have been released so far. A flight headed from maui to oakland was forced to make a hand landing this morning. Hawaiian airlines said fumes filled the cabin prompting the flight crew to declare an emergency. Once on the ground, all 224 passengers were evacuated using emergency slides. We talked to one of the passengers, jim, of walnut creek. He says that after taking off, it sounded like the landing gear kept running. He also says the plane was banking unusually and he could smell smoke and what was probably the most frightening of all, at one point the pilot came out and the pilot was so scared he was stuttering that he couldnt really talk straight, as he was trying to calm all the passengers down. Hawaiian air says two passengers ended up being taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police are searching for a driver who hit a threeyearold boy, then took off. Investigators say the driver in a box truck hit the boy. It happenedded in front of augustin Memorial Park where the child was with his mom. The boy was not badly hurt. If you have information about the driver, you are asked to call police. The family of a u. S. Marine killed in a crash last year is suing the fremont city the city of fremont and the Police Department in a wrongful death case. Andrew silva was on his motorcycle when he was hit by an alleged intoxicated driver being chased by police. Silvas Family Says Police should have known the driver was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and shouldnt have chased him. Silva just returned from afghanistan one month before he died. An update to that valuable painting that was stolen in San Francisco. That painting has been found. Yesterday, we talked with artist, nicholas coley. A couple walked away with one of his finished paintings on april 11 and it was caught on surveillance video. This is how allen often appears in marin county, wearing purple hearts and a bronze star. But the u. S. Marine corps confirmed they have no record of allen serving in the marines or earning any medals. He was medically discharged from the navy. John of nevada did receive an actual bronze star while serving in the navy in vietnam. I feel disappointed and i feel angry. Seems like he developed another per persona and lived that. Here about a thousand people took to the streets. Police tell us so far everything has been peaceful. It appears the protesters message is mixed. Some marching against low wages for workers. Others marching against Police Brutality. May day protesters demonstrated at the tabaret bart station in oakland. The plan was to block shuttle buses, but those buses were recotted. They never showed up. I get it, we all need to work to survive. But what i dont agree with are these companies that have millions, upon millions of dollars not investing in communities. Police were on hand for todays demonstration. Protesters never made it inside the station. Everything was peaceful. San franciscos minimum wage increased by 1. 20. That pushed the minimum wage to 12. 25. Making it the highest in the country along with the city of oakland. Its expected to impact 142,000 workers. Its all part of a series of increases set to top out at 15 an hour in 2018. Minimum wage workers have been pushing for National Increase to 15 an hour. On april 15, workers protested across the country. Activists say it is not working for everyone, particularly low income workers. They say its time those employees earned a fair wage for their work. Others are keeping the water off at their parks. Its sunny and i love sunny days. Danville parents dont seem to mind. Concord says the changes are some of the conservation measures taking place around the city to meet their water reduction goals this summer. Here you cant pick out toward the headlands, golden gate bridge, ocean beach, and also out toward parts of pacifica and halfmoon bay.
