Thats about a 15 to 20 minute drive across to the San Francisco side. Not a big commute, however, there is a little bit to do as the toll plaza. And also, we look at the 880 freeway right here in front of the coliseum. It looks good north and southbound. Traffic is about five minutes from downtown oakland to the haigen burger exit. Traffic is slow but not very slow. One of the commutes is 580. Slow traffic through livermore and as you drive into the dublin area. 6 03. Lets go back to the desk. We begin our 6 00 hour with developing news. Sheriffs deputies in marin county are searching for the person who opened fire on a man shortly before midnight in marin city. Ktvus alex savage with morn what we have learned about this crime. Reporter well, the victim in this case survived the shooting and hes been undergoing surgery at the hospital throughout the morning. And at the same time, sheriffs investigators continue to gather evidence out here at this crime scene. You can see this area still blocked off by crime scene tape and investigators out here investigating some of the some of the shell casings. Actually happened here late last night. Neighbors heard the gunfire just before midnight and thats when sheriffs deputies came to the neighborhood and found a man in his 30s who had been shot several times in the head. The victim was found near st. Andrew Presbyterian Church but was shot about a block away and somehow made his way there to the church. The shooting happened near the intersection of cole drive and drake avenue here in marin city. Deputies were able to get here and respond in less than a minute for getting reports of 9 11 calls from neighbors who heard gunfire. They were there within less than a victim and located a victim who had suffered a number of gunshot wounds to the head. Reporter the victims name has not been released at this point but sheriffs deputies say they do know who this man is. He doesnt live in this immediate area but they say he has friends who do, and investigators are hoping to talk with some of those friends trying to get a better sense of what may have led up to the shooting. A teenage boy still in the hospital this morning after being shot in hayward. It happened at 9 00 last night at Hayward Police expected to tell us more about the young victim and the search for the suspects. Dozens of families have been forced out of their homes after an apartment complex caught fire in san lorenzo. Ktvus Tara Moriarty joining us live now at the scene where all of the victims went out safely. Good morning, tara. Reporter 24 units were damaged here. So that means families from those units went scrambling when the flames broke out here at the galway terrace apartments. Actually, the bulk of the fire is located at the back of this complex. Now the fire started last night and it started one of the units and quickly raced through to the attic and fire said this building is made out of wood shake that made the fire especially difficult to tackle but crews were able to get the flames under control within a half an hour. It was a pretty hairy, we almost had crews fall through the roof. The roof was almost burning through very weak and it was running pretty good. Reporter again, everyone got out safely. No one was hurt. Red cross helped find the victims a temporary place to stay and investigators will be back on scene when the sun comes up to examine the debris and see what started the fire. We may see some folks back to retrieve some of the belongings. Weve seen some people come in and out of here. Not many though. Most are not willing to talk to us. Jaime ramos faces dozens of charges that make him eligible for the Death Penalty if quicked. He robbed the same bank earlier this year. They released these two photos of a man they believe to be alex martinez. He robbed the man in stockton in january. Martinez and a third suspect were killed in the violent incident five days ago and the suspected gang members used misty holt sing as a human shield during the holdup. The mother of two died in the chase and holdup with police we have more coverage of the recovery effort from that Malaysia Airlines plane that was shot down in ukraine. Search crews have found the remains of 21 more victims. The remains of 272 of the 298 people on that flight have now been recovered. Prorussian rebels controlled the crash site. Theyve been keeping the bodies in refrigerated train cars. Dutch investigators arrived there in the area today. They told the rebels guarding those train cars the train must be allowed to leave within hours. 192 of the victims are dutch and another one dutch american. Having those people in control of the size is a little like leaving criminals in control of a crime scene. The u. N. Security council may rule today on the International Access to the crash site. Russia has the power to veto the resolution. Six aids researchers were headed the an aids conference in australia. Witnesses say a man was walking near old fair oaks bridge when he fell 60 feet down a cliff. Normally, rescue crews would lower an injured person down to the river, but because of this mans injuries and because the vegetation is so thick, they had to hoist him to the top of the cliff. We set up the engines and positions and set up a rope system. It was able to lower down to that point. The rescue took more than an hour. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital and had severe injuries. Back in march, firefighters rescued a man and his dog. They climbed the cliff bluff but couldnt get back down. A woman is fighting for her life this morning. She was rescued from donors summit after an atv accident. This happened yesterday afternoon about 2 30. Chp helicopter lifted her to safety. Officials say she was riding the atv with her family when she drifted off the path and then became stuck on loose rock and went 100 feet over the steep hillside. Police say she was wearing a bicycle helmet which broke into several pieces. She had to be air lifted to a Trauma Center in reno. Theres a new online push to help find a 20yearold Berkeley Student who disappeared in a texas lake. Song sock was last seen eight days ago after jumping off the boat of lake travis and never resurfacing. Search teams using sow noir helicopters and a Remote Control underwater vehicle were unable to locate the body. Now friends and family have started online fundraiser to continue the search. Stock was in texas for a summer internship. Happening today, the San Francisco city gardener accused of running over and killing a woman is due back in court. 58yearold thomas bernoski facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and hit and run for the tragic incident last september. Bernoskis truck went over a woman who was san bathing with her baby. Pled not guilty to the charges. Also happening today, a judge will hold an unusual bail hearing for a 42yearold ryan chamberlain. The San Francisco political and Media Consultant is facing federal charges of possessing a bomb and other serious weapons charges. This afternoon, the judge will hear the defense request to release him on bail to treat him at a Mental Health facility. It was a key part of this case. Immigration courts around the country including San Francisco are bracing for an influx of cases with children trying to cross the border. They send judges to the boarer to speed up the proceedings and asked congress for 3. 7 billion in emergency funding. However, immigration advocates say thousands of children could be left unrepresented at deportation hearings because of the large number of cases. More than 2500 of those cases are pending right now in San Francisco. Advocates for immigrants plan to hold a big rally today outside of San Franciscos federal building. Theyre sending a letter to lawmakers asking to put pressure on president obama to recognize on documented child immigrants as refugees. At least 50,000 unaccompanied children have been caught trying to cross the border recently. Many flee drug violence in central america. The rally begins at 10 00 this morning. It happened just before midnight in marin city. Alex savidge joining us live now and you have new information about the victim. Reporter well, its unclear why this man was targeted in this shooting but the victim is still alive after undergoing surgery early this morning at the hospital. At the same time, sheriffs investigators still have this street blocked off this morning. This is where the shooting happened late last night. We watched the sheriffs deputies collect quite a few shell casings that were all over the sidewalk in this area. Neighbors heard the gunfire just before midnight and sheriffs deputies moved in here and a man was in his 30s and shot several times in the head. The victim was discovered near st. Andrew press biertarian church but appears he was shot about a block away and then somehow made his way to that church after being wounded. The shooting happened near the intersection of cole drive and drake avenue here in marin city. Deputies were able to get here in less than a minute after the 911 calls came in from neighbors. As far as we know at this point, hes not a resident of marin city, but he is known to people here in the community and those are people we want to talk to to get further information. Reporter the victims name is not yet released by authorities and investigators dont know yet what the motive may have been for the crime. The person who opened fire on this man is still on the loose and deputies have not put out any information on the shooter they are continuing to search for. The girl was hit in the arm and rushed to the hospital. Police have not identified a suspect and Oakland Police are also investigating three other shootings over the weekend that injured three men in their 20s. Continuing coverage now of the recovery effort of the Malaysia Airlines plane that the shot down in the ukraine, Christien Kafton is in our newsroom now with the international rage over the bodies of the victims and how theyre being handled. Reporter located what appears to be the black bocks. They need to examine them to confirm thats what they are. They will return the devices and turn over to International Investigators. Meanwhile, International Outrage over the recovery effort is building with dutch forensic investigators on the ground in ukraine calling on the separatists to release the bodies theyve found today. We have an update that the number of victims now stands at 272. Prorussian separatists keep those in the train cars in the region while talks continue on exactly how those bodies will be released to the loved ones. Secretary of state john kerry flies to egypt today pushing for a cease fire between israel and hamas. Now, during its Ground Invasion of gaza, they destroyed several tunnels used by hamas militants. Yesterday was the deadliest day in two weeks of fighting. 87 palestinians were killed, along with 13 israeli soldiers, and two americans. Last night, one of the israeli americans killed in gaza was a 24yearold Max Steinberg who drew up in los angeles. His family an friends held this vigil outside of a family home. His father said he joined the Israeli Defense forces in 2012 and was a sharp shooter. The other was from south pa draw island texas. The hospital in gaza are swamped, overwhelmed. Theyre trying to keep up with the number of injuries from all the fighting. One doctor said they have to operate in the hospital hallways because of a lack of space. While the 3,000 palestinians are injured in the past two weeks. Here in the bay area, some jewish people support israels attack on gaza while others strongly oppose it. The protesters gathered outside temple emanuel. San franciscos oldest and largest synagogue today, they support israels right to defend itself with attacks on gaza. Jewish people who want Israeli Forces to pull back. Increasingly, jewish people are concerned and speaking out and do not want to be associated with israel. Nobody wants new wants to see more casualties. Around a thousand people attended the special Service Inside the synagogue, reportedly, some palestinian reporters briefly disrupted that service and they were removed. A former Concord Elementary School teacher will be back in court today following surprising testimony last week. 45yearold Joseph Martin pled not guilty to 150 counts of molestation involving 14 male students at woodside elementary school. On thursday, several witnesses provided positive testimony about martin until one girl said she saw him rubbing a boys chest underneath his shirt during class. A 21yearold man from santa rosa faces several charges after a 21yearold man died in a suspected drunk driving crash. Antonio marie lost control of his car. Witnesses say he was speeding right before his suv crashed into a tree and then hit a guardrail. Torres nunez was riding in his car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Happening today, a Ribbon Cutting ceremony marking the completion of a new highway interchange in santa rosa. Two partial interchanges on highway 101 at fulton road in Airport Boulevard were converted into a single complete interchange and they replace it had two lane Airport Boulevard overcrossing with a new five lane bridge, a sidewalk, and bike lanes. The project also includes new sound walls along the highway in windsor. The Ribbon Cutting ceremony is set for 9 00 this morning. Starting today, cal train will begin improvements at four of its stations aimed at bringing Better Communications to commuters. The travel agency said public address systems will be upgraded at its 22nd street station in San Francisco, along with stations in south San Francisco, sunnyvale, and san jose. Dozens of people are out of their homes after a fire that caused heavy damage to an apartment complex in san lorenzo. Want to show you video of the damage. You can see its pretty extensive. The fire started yesterday afternoon inside one of the apartments on galloway drive, it quickly spread to the attic. The building does not have a Sprinkler System and has wood panels, as you can see on the outside. And on the roof, which made the flames quickly spread. It was pretty hairy. Crews fell through the roof and almost burning through, very weak. It was good. All apartments in the building have been deemed uninhabitable. No one was hurt but the red cross is helping people find temporary housing. Theyre back on the scene to find out what started the fire. Time is now 6 45. Later this morning, the Contra Costa County honor those who died of jobrelated illnesses. The ceremony starts at 9 30 at the districts Training Center in concord. The public is invited to attend. The annual ceremony is meant to serve as a reminders of the thanks to their families. 6 45. Cooler temperatures and lighter winds in Washington State expected to help firefighters battle several fires and destroyed about a dozen homes. Theyre burning.
