This is ktvu mornings on 2. 7 00, youre looking live at the bay bridge, and next week at this time, this will be completely empty, no cars going across the bridge and well have more on the shut down in just a moment. Good morning, welcome to mornings on 2. Im tori campbell. And im dave clark. Lets check weather and traffic. Were going to steve first. Good morning, lots of low clouds in place. Breaks here and there. Most of the forecast area has low clouds or you can see it. We have get a couple holes in the fog bank. The low which gave us wild weather this week has accelerated up to oregon. A little system which will enhance the fog tomorrow and tonight. And 52 to 62, a lot of low clouds, some sun and mostly sunny, partly cloudy skies by noon, 5 to 78 and 60 to 90. Mostly sunny. Most will be in the 60s 70s and 80s. 56, 57, 58, a couple low 60s toward san jose, thats about it. San franciscos high temp has been quiet this week. 67 today just because. It will be close. Right about average though, for this time of year. The one system moves out and another one will be in here a little bit later. But overall, it looks like a quiet pattern here. Warmer inland, not a lot. The delta breeze seems to be less today than it was yesterday. That allows for 60s, 70s and 80s. Heres sal. Steve, we have had a heck of a problem with some of these maps and commutes, i should say. I look at them as maps. Northbound 101 right here. You can see all the red coming up because of an earlier crash near fully road. Now that crash has been cleared, but traffic is going to be very slow. The accident was there. But the traffic as you can see is still very slow as you drive on northbound 101, and i also want to mention in the east bay, we also had some slow traffic on 24 and 580. Fortunately they did clear the crash and the back up went away rather quickly. Thats the good news on 580. 8880 is slow getting into downtown oakland. Westbound 80 at the bay bridge toll plaza is backed up. Thats lighter than usual and the commute on interstate 880 near the coliseum and that traffic moves well. 7 03. Lets go back to the desk. We have new video to toe show you as well that we to show you as well that we just got into the news room. You can see how smoky it is as daylight has broken and people are gathering to get the plan of attack for today. Theme of this morning seems to be growing numbers. The fire has almost doubled in size in just 24 hours. We are now at more than 105,000 acres, about this time yesterday was about 54. Then it moved to 63 last night, and then it really just took off overnight. The number of firefighters, though, has also grown from 1300 to 1800 on that line, and theres just no way to get folks around this entire fire. Basically what theyre doing is picking their battles right now. On the west side theyre fighting to keep it from moving from the Pine Mountain lake area. They have been able to save homes. Thats good news, but theyre now also putting up an out post in the area of tarwalaome city. Burning unchecked, inside the park boundary and just a couple miles from hetche. Its burning in steep and difficult terrain. Its in the trees and the weather hasnt been great. It worked against them yesterday allowing the fire to just kind oaf take off, and they are expecting a similar day today weather wise. So thats not giving them much hope for trying to get ahead of all of this, but they are hanging out there for the day, getting a look at the fire and trying to keep it from moving. We have our own ktvu robert at base camp and well hear from him in 40 minutes. Were getting a birds eye view of the fast moving fire. Lets go and take a look at some of the other commutes. 880 northbound, one of the reasons i told you to stay away from that. Its a little bit busy from san leandro into oakland. Busier than 580. And the morning commute is going to be moderately heavy at the bay bridge toll plaza. I want to remind you that 101 in san jose is no picnic either. Lets go to steve. Thank you sal, and a very good morning, a happy friday, a lot of gray over the bay as we say. Captain cahuna tweeted me and said a little cool. Its mainly cloudy. Theres a couple little breaks in the fog pattern. We have gone from hot early this week inland, then the thunderstorms and the cool down and the fog. Temperatures will rebound just slightly today. Really very quiet into the weekend and early next week and i would lean on the below normal temperatures. Theres a lot going on. Our low is up visiting the pacific northwest. Theres just a little bit of tiny front coming in, Ronald Coleman in crescent city, how come you didnt forecast the front up here. Thats a little far north for me. It will increase your fog and give you a little bit more drizzle. And lots going on near las vegas and points south. More on that in just a second. More fog, the low cloud deck has made a strong push. The low we can say goodbye to that, and an interests weather week. Cooler after today. And keep it there 3 or 5 days. 50s, 60s on the temps. Really nobody has budged on any of these due to the cloud cover. They havent had a chance, lots of low clouds, make ago strong surge inland, from santa cruz to monterey. Santasanta cruz will be one of the warmest on the coast. Travel plans to las vegas, things lit up. Thunderstorms activity should be better today. But heres what theyre concerned about. Look whats coming up from cabo san lucas. Southern california, and 50 through the interior or 60s. The smoke from the rim fire shows up on the visible, right there. You can see the smoke going over tahoe, truckee and over towards reno. Our situation is kind of quiet here, after we had that crazy week, but a little bit warmer, not a lot, but the sea breeze, delta breeze seems to be cut in half, and reservoir, around 1100 feet. Still good gusts out there. 60s, 70s and 80s on these temps and i think after today, temperatures will settle in the 60s, 70s and mid80s and not change for a while.
