It looks like it looks like crews are trying to round that up right now. The bay bridge toll plaza, you can see that traffic is still backed up there. But a gorgeous sunrise as you head into San Francisco this morning. 7 02. Back to the desk. New this morning, police in the east bay city of pittsburg are searching for suspects in a double shooting. It happened outside of a home late last night. Alex savidge just heared how how a neighbor just happened a shooting victim. Reporter a man and woman hit by gunfire on the street in pittsburg last night. That woman was shot in the lower back and she wound up collapsing right near the front door of this home. She was screaming for help. The homeowner inside heard that and called up 911. And then he came outside to put pressure on her bullet wound until police and paramedics arrived. The man who lives in this house showed us where three stray bullets pierced his front wall during this double shooting that happened just after 11 00. Police say the woman who was shot has lifethreatening injuries and the man who was shot is expected to survive. The neighbor who helped one of the victims didnt want to show face on camera but said he was scared to step outside worried about more shots being fired. It was kind of scary there. I didnt know if that person was dead. Shots right there and then another one and these three here. I dont know what kind of gun he was using. Reporter police cant say what the motive may have been for this double shooting. They also havent given a description on the shooter or shooters they are still searching for. Neighbors say this is a safe area and this kind of violence is certainly rare. We expect to get more details on this investigation from a Pittsburg Police lieutenant later on this morning. Were hive in pittsburg, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. 7 04. The napa couple accused in the weekend killing of 3yearold caylee slusher is tu in court. Are due in court. The two suspects, the girls mother and her boyfriend. Investigators say they sexually assaulted her before beating her to death. Ktvu talked to john krueger, the grandfather and he blames kruegers boyfriend. There is a monster who started all of this. Ten months ago when he came that my daughters into my daughters life. Shes been a changed person. I cant believe he would leave kayleigh there like that. The autopsy report on the 3 yearold girl, thats expected to come out today. An oakland teen accused of killing his older sister will stay in custody but he will be allowed to go to her funeral. At a detention hearing, his lawyers argued he should be released to his family. Caltrain right here will most likely be relied on heavily. Here in the bay area. San francisco will be home to the nfl experience and other major events while santa rosa will host the super bowl with the two cities being 45 minutes away from each other. It may be challenging to handle the traffic. Thats why officials went to new york to see how the week long festivities were handled. Their top concerns, security, transportation and the logistics of getting hundreds of thousands of super bowl visitors around the region. On sunday, the transit was overwhelmed with double the amount of fans estimated. Train stations were packed. Some santa clara commuters are concerned about the planning here. Things have been tense since the 2010 pipeline explosion where eight people were killed and dozens of homes were destroyed. California has fined two pg e subcontractors with this implosion of a power plant in bakersfield. The two companies will have to pay 29,000 after a problem with that demolition. South San Francisco police are warning people about a scam that sounds like someone could be in danger. A woman received a phone call saying a member of her family was held for ran some. The caller had the relatives name and told the woman to send 5,000 through Western Union to mexico. It was not true. Police are investigating. Palo alto is suspending a controversial zoning process. It will no longer allow developers to build bigger projects that would normally be allowed if they also provide a public benefit. More than 100 projects have used that. The Austrian Olympic Committee is investigating a kidnapping threat targeting two of their world class athletes. The committees office in vienna received an anon list letter from russia. It contained a threat against an austrian skier and a snow sled racer. Olympic organizers say a special antiterror unit will be with those two athletes when they leave the olympic village. The russian government is making final security preparations. There are now more than 40,000 Russian Troops and Police Officers in the city. Russian terrorists have publicly targeted these winter games and defense secretary chuck hagan has said the United States is ready to remove its citizens in the event of a catastrophic terroristic attack. The u. S. Ambassador will step down after the olympics. He announced his departure in a blog post this morning. Now that an escaped michigan convicted killer is back in custody, authorities are taking a closer look at how he got out in the first place. Officers say Michael David elliott escaped by peeling a hole in a fence with his bare hands. He abducted a woman and stole her jeep outside of the prison. When the two stopped for gas, the woman managed to call 911 for help. I said, you need to figure out somehow how to fet into the gas station get into the gas station. I said tell him you need to use the restroom. He said do not hang up the phone with me. Officers were able to track them down and elliott was arrested. Officials are now looking at the fences at the facility. They think a motion sensor and shock system may have failed during his escape. More innocent prisoners are going free thanks to a push by prosecutors to take a closer look at questionable convictions. According to the National Registry of exxonerations in 2013, 87 people were found to have been wrongly convicted. Of that number, one in five pleaded guilty to the charges against them in order to get a plea bargain. The registry found that some of the exonerations involved dna evidence. Today, Santa Clara County supervisors plan to consider a proposal to fine the San Jose Fire Department if it does not improve its Response Times to emergency calls. Supervisor dave cortez who is running for mayor of san jose says the Fire Department is not meeting its crt ual obligation to respond to 90 of medical emergencies within eight minutes. The Response Time has dropped like a rock within the last several months. Its down to approximately 80 . Hes proposing fining san jose 150,000 if the department does not fix the problem by june. The Fire Department acknowledges falling short on medical calls sometimes but says crews respond within the allotted time nearly 88 of the time when you factor in all emergency responses. 7 18. Happening today the napa couple of accused in the killing of Kayleigh Slusher are due in court. The suspects, her mother and her boyfriend. Ktvu news has learned there were early signs the girl may have been in danger. Pam cook is in the newsroom with more on all of this. Pam . Yeah, napa police found the little girls body on saturday but 2 investigates has learned that officers spoke to the little girl on two different occasions only days earlier. One week ago, police came to the apartment to check out a verbal dispute between kayleigms mother and her boyfriend. Officers were back again two days later at the request of kayleighs grandmother. We checked the child, talked to her. Made sure she was okay. She what she states if there was anything really suspicious, then we would have taken other action. 2 investigates hass about been looking into the history of the mothers boyfriend. Napa county Court Records show ryan werner had an outstanding warrant in San Mateo County for failing to show up for court in a vandalism case. Thats records also show that some of the domestic dispute calls to the apartment involved the little girls father who is in prison for evading police. Now, the two suspects in this horrifying case due in court at 2 30 this afternoon. Reporting live in the newsroom. Pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. Police in santa cruz are investigating child molestation charges and they want other victims to come forward. Richard lester brode was arrested on friday. Police say earlier that afternoon, someone reported that brode was molesting two young girls. Their investigation found that brode was bringing the girls into his bedroom, holding them down and attacking them. They say they found several items in brodes home involving child pornography. Brode is expected in court in the next couple of days. 7 34. All lanes of eastbound interstate 80 near dixon are back open this morning after an officerinvolved shooting. Police say a man stole a white pickup truck from concord and was wanted in connection with an armed assault in sacramento. That stolen truck was spotted before 8 00 p. M. By the chp who pulled the man over. Police say the man got out of the truck and charged at officers. They shot him once with a shot gun. Did go down partially in the lanes. As soon as that happened, our officers used caution and approached, moved the suspect from traffic and provided first aid. The suspect was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries. No further information has been released. 7 35. There is a new report that says San Jose State University did nothing wrong in the investigation surrounding an africanamerican student who said he was harassed by his four white roommates. The report says the use of racial slurs, a Confederate Flag, a bike lock was put around his neck. The report says the University Acted appropriately. Found out about the incidents after the parents complained. I have staff changing some of the propo toll so i will be protocol so i will be informed in a much more timely fashion. For others many that we spoke with its an issue of choice. San Francisco City supervisors have waged a war against an industry that they call big soda will the proposed soda tax make people healthier or infuriate residents who say that soda is expensive enough . There will be a proposal for a 2cent tax. This would include sodas, Energy Drinks and sports drinks, not vegetable and fruit drinks. This would create money for nutritional programs. Opponents say this may hurt your pocket bock if you shop at a Grocery Store or eat at a fastfooped restaurant fast food restaurant. Some say it will help bup i would say the majority say it will not. Thats a lot of money in my opinion. Half cent tax, they would have to do an increase. 2 cents is a lot per ounce. Its not gonna change anybodys habits. Why bother . Other than its an easy way to make money. It seems like the people who cant afford it will be the ones most effected. Reporter a study says too much sugar can cause heart problems. People who got 25 of their calories from sugar had three times the greater chance of dying from heart disease. Researchers found that two cannens of soda per day is enough to substantially raise the risk of heart disease. This is not the only time that the soda tax has been introduced. One was introduced in richmond in 2012. But both were defeated by voters with the soda industry raising millions of dollars to help in that campaign. The winter storm that hit the east coast sunday night troped up to 10 inches of snow. About 1900 flights were canceled all over the country. Police in pittsburg are searching for suspects in a double shooting. A man and a woman were both wounded outside a home late last night. Alex savidge join us live to let us know how a neighbor helped one of the shooting victims. Reporter Pittsburg Police cant say what the motive was, why someone opened fire on this man and woman. But the woman was hit in the lower back and she collapsed right near the front door of this home you are looking at here. She was yelling for help. Thats when the homeowner called 911 and came outside to put pressure on her bullet wound she had to her lower back. Police and paramedics arrived shortly after that. The man who lives in this house says he has three stray bullets that pierced his front wall. This double shooting happened after 11 00 last night. Police say the woman who was shot has lifethreatening injuries and the man who was shot is expected to survive. The neighbor who helped one of the victims didnt want to show his face on camera but told me he was nervous last night as he stepped outside. You hear all of these shots. You see somebody. But you dont know whether you should stick your head out and come out and get shot. I came out and she was there. Shes been a changed person. I can never believe she would leave kayleigh like that. Its beyond words. The autopsy report on the 3 yearold girl thats also expected to be released today. An oakland teenager accused of killing his older sister will stay in custody. But he will be allowed to go his sisters funeral. At a detention hearing yesterday, the 14yearolds lawyers argue he should be released to his family. But prosecutors fought back calling the teen a flight risk and a danger to society. He said he was last at sea for 13 months and finally rescued on a remote South Pacific island. Napa police found the little girls body on saturday. 2 investigates has learned that officers talked to the girl on two different occasions only days earlier. One week ago, police went to that apartment checking out a verbal dispute between caylees mother and her boyfriend. Police were back there again two days later at the request of kac leigh of caylees grandmother. We talked to her, saw if she was okay. If there was anything suspicious, we would have taken other action. 2 investigates has been looking into the history of the mothers boyfriend. Court records show that brian werner had a warrant in San Mateo County for not showing up for court in a vandalism case. Police are still out there investigating an officer involved shooting one that shut down traffic on interstate 80. Police say a man stole a white pickup truck from concord and was wanted in connection with an armed assault in sacramento. That stolen truck was spotted about 8 00 last night by the chp and they pulled the man over. Police say he got out of the truck and charged at police who shot him once with a shot gun. He did go down partially in the lanes. As soon as that happened, other officers used caution, approached and removed the suspect and provided first aid. Police say the suspect is still in the hospital being treated for injuries. We have no other information about the suspect at this point. 8 34. A new report says San Jose State University did nothing wrong in the investigation surrounding a black student who says he was harassed by his four white roommates. The report details the alleged use of racial slurs, a Confederate Flag and a ushaped bike lock fastened around the students neck last fall. The report says the University Acted appropriately and only learned of the incidents after the alleged victims parents complained in midoctober. You found out how a neighbor helped. Reporter Pittsburg Police are still trying to figure out why someone opened fire on this man and woman here on heatherwood drive last night. Were told by a neighbor, the woman was shot in her lower back and ended up collapses in the flowerbed near the front of the house. She was screaming out for help. The homeowner came outside to help her and put pressure on her bullet wound until police and paramedics arrived here at this scene. The man who lives in the house showed us that he had three stray bullets pierce his front wall. The double shooting was after 11 00 last night. Police say the woman who was shot had lifethreatening injuries and the man who was shot had less serious injuries. The neighbor who helped one of the victims in this case didnt want to show his face on camera. But told me he was nervous as he stepped outside. Kind of like it was kind of scary. I didnt know if that person was dead. You know, eight shots right there. And then another one at least three here. He unloaded i dont know what kind of gun he was using. The San Francisco bay conservation and Development Commission says that google project doesnt have the proper permits and says the barge should be moved to a construction site. However, the Treasure Island Development Authority which leases that space for the barge at 79,000 a month says it will try to get the proper permits. San francisco is suing a pennsylvania social network that reportedly enages predators to target moneyers. The site meetme. Com lets users search for new friends and screen them by age. It also tells them where that person is located. City attorney Dennis Herrera says the site breaks California Law by relying on invalid consent from minors to reveal their personal information to strangers.
