Traffic is normal once you make it on to that span. Were also looking at a commute here on the san mateo bridge where the traffic looks good. Seems different to me when it comes to the commute. As we have been reporting for months, both the San Francisco and Oakland Police department are looking for a Permanent Police chief. This is a fillin chief for the hayward Police Department as well. Alex savidge is live where the chief, diane stuart, is now on administrative leave. There are a lot of big against unanswered, alex . Reporter there certainly are. Mystery here in hayward. I just got off the phone with a member of the city council. She cannot reveal exactly what prompted this investigation into the chief but, again, she said that investigation is confidential but launched late in the day yesterday is what she just told me. All that city official also say is that police chief diane stuart has been placed on leave until an investigation, a personnel investigation, can be completed and, again, they are not revealing the particulars of what this matter is. But we do know that 53yearold chief has been in charge of the hayward Police Department for nearly five years now. She first began her Law Enforcement career with the san jose Police Department all the way back in 1986. She has been in Law Enforcement for quite some time. I talked a short time ago with the Hayward City Council member and she is urging the public not to jump to any conclusions about the chiefs sudden departure. Just have patience with the process. To know that were following our procedures. If there are questions, they can contact the City Managers Office but to know that city has done the job with managing all of our employees well and with integrity and this is no different than that so just have patience with us. He said that a person can become a Police Officer in just six months and said that the cosmetologist needs more education and training than an armed officer. The Alameda County Sheriffs Office has invited kaepernick to come see for himself to see what recruits go through. We thought it would be best for Collin Kaepernick to come out and see what we do. Alameda county deputy recruits go through 28 weeks of strange and a special swat training. A spokesperson will be joining us today on the 9 talking about the training and his invitation to Collin Kaepernick. And the San Francisco Police Officers union is among those slamming kaepernick. The Union President said that the Law Enforcement community cannot be continuously blamed for all of societys problems including racial divide in our country. It is not fair and it is not true. He wrote that in a letter to 49ers letter jen york and nfl commissioner roger goodell. While the controversy continues on whether he will sit on the bench or stand for the National Anthem, there are questions whether he will even make the team. Two women brought together by the tragedy of losing a very young child are now calling for a National Conversation about paid parental leave. Ali dods 11 week old child died. She took her baby to daycare. Just a few days in, shepherd was put in a car seat to sleep, slipped down and suffocated. The two women believe, had they had more time at home with their son, their death cost have been prevented. A couple of reports of a few drops but does look like a nice day, even on the coast and in San Francisco. That fog is getting chewed up pretty rapidly. Some low clouds. All coming from the west southwest. A low punching into the north coast has cranked up the breeze for a few. Now they are on the east shore and that east shore freeway is not in good shape. Lets go out and take a look at the drive time. Driving from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze, almost an hour, not quite. We are talking about really for all intents and purposes taking an hour to make at that dry as drive as you get to the macarthur maze. Traffic is going to be slow. Also in the east bay, we have seen slow traffic on highway 4. Part of antioch, all of pittsburg, some of bay point and concord to walnut creek and into alamo, so traffic there, as well. And east bay, a couple of crashes hold up traffic. Slower than usual. Nest less, it is slow as you drive south. If you are driving on 680 south here, you can see that on the sonone bridge, youll see some slowdown. The European Union is cracking down on apple. Reporter the analyst told knee that the European Union wants to put a stop to multi billion Dollars Companies like apple in exchange for getting jobs in ireland. Apple jobs in ireland. He says that it appears that apple is being used as a test case. The European Union says that ireland must recover 14. 5 billion plus interest from apple. The union found ireland allowed apple to pay a Corporate Tax rate substantially less than other businesses. The Corporate Tax rate is 12. 5 but in 2003, apple paid 1 on its european profits and. 005 in 2013. We spoke to a tech analyst about the unions decision here what is he had to say. The timing is close enough to brexit that they may be trying to clean up a few stuff before the brexit occurs. One of those things will be to collect unpaid tax revenues. Mayor schaaf says that she homes to select a police she hopes to select a police chief by the end of the year with that person taking over in january or february. A suicide bomber rammed a car filled with explosives into the gates of the Chinese Embassy in kyrgyzstan. That was the scene. The bomber was killed. Three embassy employees were hurt. Today, in italy, a state funeral will be held for more than 200 of the 292 victims of last weeks huge earthquake in italy. Imagine requiring mandatory sentencing for people convicted of Sexual Assault and rape. The bill is now on the governor governors desk. It was in response to the brock turner case. Brock turner is due to be released from jail on friday after serving only half of his sixmonth sentence. He was also sentenced to three years probation and after he gets out, he will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and complete a sex offender program. A 10,000 reward is being offered to find whoever shot and killed three sea otters in the santa cruz area. The otters all washed up earlier this month between Santa Cruz Harbor and sea cliff state beach. A fourth was also found this morning. Officials have not confirmed whether or not it was shot. The sea sorts are protected as a threatened species. Anyone caught killing a sea otter could face a 300,000 fine and possible jail time. Its pretty unique. Last time that three sea otters were found shot and killed were on selma state beach in 2013. That case is still unsolved. Authorities dont know why that sea otter was shot and whether or not the same person is responsible. And police in new zealand are investigating as 500 cows were missing. The farmer counted the cows earlier. The cows are worth more than 100,000 each. Sal, you have more problems . Welcome back to mornings on 2 at 751 67 89 police are searching for a man and woman breaking into mailboxes in San Francisco using a stolen Postal Service master key. It happened in the 94109 zip code. It goes from Fishermans Wharf to the western addition. The suspect is seen buzzing themselves into the Apartment Building and clean out the buildings mailboxes in a matter of minutes stealing letters filled with credit cards, passports and other things one tenant showed us security video of the suspects stealing mail three separate times this month. These guys have stolen on thursday. On saturday, they charged five grand to local businesses. Now, having a master key is a federal crime. We are told that postal inspectors have known about the thefts for at least ten days but replacing the locks could cost about 200,000. When people saw police, a lot of people panicked and started running. Some say they thought that was an active shooter situation because they also heard loud noises. And social media apparently helped spread the chaos. Now, police say that they checked security video but never found the source of the loud noise that was mistaken as gunfire. The merger between Virgin America and Alaska Airlines will lead to job cuts but apple is topping the list of stocks to watch right now. Pam cook is back in studio with this mornings money watch. Reporter i spoke to a city council person. She told me this was a confidential matter. She cannot reveal why the police chief is under investigation. This started late in the day yesterday. Thats when police chief diane stuart was suddenly placed on leave pending the completion of a personnel investigation. We do not know exactly what prompted that investigation. The 52yearold chief has been in charge of the hayward Police Department for nearly five years. She first began her Law Enforcement career with the san jose Police Department in 1986. Now a hayward Council Member i spoke with this morning is urging the public not to jump to any conclusions about this investigation focused here on the citys top cop. Just have patience with the process. Knowing that we are following our procedures. If there are questions, they can contact the City Managers Office. But to know that the city has done a good job with managing all of our employees well and with integrity and this is no different than that. So just have patience with us.
