This morning more than 100 Northern California employers are heading to new jersey to honor fallen officers, they are going to be biking 300 miles in the police unity bike tour. Reporter more than 100 officers from california are getting ready to take this trip that they wish they did not have to make. Robert is here to explain more about the tour, its an opportunity to remember the officers that have fallen in the line of duty. Its the only way that we can remember them. We ride 300 miles on bicycles over a four day period from new jersey to the National Police officer memorial in washington, dc where we are going to come home to the names of where 22,000 Law Enforcement officers have their names on the wall. We are going to be there honoring them. We were here to see you guys off. I had a chance to see video from the ride. Its an emotional ride for the riders. You all have a personal reason to ride and remember an officer or officers in general. It gets emotional for a lot of us, not only do many of us ride because we lotion someone in our own departments but we have many surviving family members and we are there to support them and their loved ones that they lost in the line of duty. The outage lasted 20 minutes but the flaring sent heavy smoke into the air for several hours, Government Agencies will continue to monitor the situation for the next few days. The air quality district will be in the area doing ongoing monitoring of the air as the valero refinery continues through its start up process, in the event that there is a disruption we will have additional monitoring available. Two people reported having irritation from the smoke but neither went to the hospital. The Industrial Park was evacuated. Two schools were ordered to shelter in place but only a few students had arrived when the incident started. Patients parents were told to not drop their kids off at the school that day. The dream catchers Youth Services is opening up a new facility in downtown oakland and there is going to be a big ceremony today. We are really excited. The executive director of the Youth Services said this is a dream come true, moving to a victorian that is beautiful and new on the identifies, its all for teens sceepg the harsh life of the streets. Escaping the harsh life on the streets. For seven years homeless teens, many of them girls have made their way to dream catchers, some are run aways. They lose their family, they lose their beds, their clothes, their siblings, Health Support and income and any help with getting food. They recognized the need for more help. People of color represent over 25 but they are 75 of the girls on the street. Thats a demonstration of exploitation. Many of the teens walking through the doors of out of options. When they turn to us they are making the only choice other than the potential the losing their life to the streets. Reporter they have eight beds but the new building right next door will offer more, counseling and a medical clinic, its a big help for at risk teens. The new facility has the potential of 24 beds. In and out of foster care, some girls also give back, talking to the girls and sharing their wisdom. I always encourage them to focus on what interests them and i try to support them in getting a job and getting housing. Happening now a group of Northern California Police Officers are boarding a flight to the east coast on a mission to honor those that died this the line of duty. Christian has more on that ride. Reporter officers from around the state of california are making their way to new jersey getting ready for the Police Unity Tour, a ride that none of the officers wanted to have to make. Troy is joining us from the San Leandro Police department. This is a ride to remember your fellow officers. We have a two pronged mission, the first is so raise awareness of Police Officers killed in the line of duty. A Police Officer is killed every 48 to 60 hours, on average, over the years, that is far too many. This year we are riding for 144 names on the wall. Officers go back through history to see the names of the officers killed in the line of duty. Its a tremendous number of names, there are over 20,000 names on the wall. Its win of the few memorials in washington, dc that will never be done. Its an emotional ride. Reporter can you talk about what its like to be out there and to meet your fellow officers riding. A lot of them have personal reasons for riding. We mostly knew someone that was killed in the line of duty. Thats what brings you to us, is personal and emotional to ride for them. We ride for those that died. We are fortunate enough to be able to ride a bicycle to honor them. Many say, we would trade places if we could. Its hard. There comes a point in the ride when the weight of it comes on you, the strees are lined streets are lined with people and as you ride into that memorial and the gravity of what you have done comes to you, its strong. Thank you christian. Two men received life sentences friday for murdering a wellknown dog walker in oakland. Judy salamon it taken cell phone video of two men committing a crime in her neighborhood. She followed them and they killed her. The judge sentenced stephon lee and mario floyd to life in prison without the possibility of parole. A man who was a bart employee was a witness to an assault, the three suspects were booked into juvenile hall. Police are looking for a fourth suspect. A texas Police Officer has been charged with murder after shooting and killing a 15 year old boy, the officer turned himself in last night. He was fired earlier this week after he shot at a car full of teenagers leaving a party a week ago killing a 15 year old. The police said they found evidence that the Police Officer intended to cause bodily injury. Police officers shot and injured a suspect friday morning. Campus police had been called by the Sonoma County Sheriffs Department to provide backup after a report of a Man Threatening people with a gun. John and burned down her house. There is been a break in a 2004 Sonoma County murder case, lindsay cutshal and jason allen were found dead in their sleeping bags. They planned to marry a few weeks after their trip. Investigators said this man, 38 year old shaun gallon was someone they looked at when the crime was committed 13 years ago. Two months ago, shaun gallon was arrested for killing his brother and he started to talk to the police about these killings. We have located evidence that corroborates his statements. Based on what the detectives have been able to learn, we feel confident that we have the killer in custody. The Sheriffs Office does not have a motive for the deaths but their families said they are grateful to the sheriffs for pursuing the cold case. We have an update on a missing dog, murphy was a three year old german shepard rescue dog, he was found dead in a car. The police are calling the death suspicious. Pg e is continuing their investigation into a loss of power into the valero refinery, the power outage caused heavy black and gray smoke to plume into the air. The fed, the epa and the air quality district will continue to be in the area doing ongoing monitoring because the air near the refinery will be questionable during the starting up process. Two people were fengted with smoke inhalation, effected with smoke inhalation. Two schools close to the refinery were ordered to shelter in place but only a few students had arrived when the incident happened. Parents were told to not drop off their children. San francisco wants pg e to compensate them because of a seven hour power outage. Five other city departments said they had costs because of the outage. Police had to pay overtime to officers that had to direct traffic and they spent money on generators. Pge and has not commented on the claim. People celebrated celebrated Cinco De Mayo yesterday. Mexican flags flew from cars and the holiday brought big business to local mexican restaurants. One man expected his business to double and he hired private security. A texas Police Officer has been charged with murder for shooting and killing a 15 year old boy while on duty. The officer turned himself in hours after an arrest warrant was issued. The officer shot at a car full of teenagers leaving a party a week ago, the Sheriffs Office said they found evidence that the oirve intended to intended officer intended to injure someone. The prosecutor is putting it into the hands of the grand jury to find out what level of homicide they will proceed on. In the north bay, a Sonoma State University Police Officer shot at a suspect during an off campus incident. Campus police had been called by the sonoma Sheriffs Office to provide backup. After that report, police and neighbors heard gunshots. Officials found four bullet casings but there was no sign of a suspect. A couple of hours later an officer saw a man matching the description of the suspect walking out of the creek bed. He tried to use a taser to stop him, it did not work and then they shot the man. I have had a business on the street for their years and this is the first time that there is ever been a crime here. The suspect is rferg from surgery, thorts did not find a woman on recovering from surgery, officers did not find a weapon him. A woman, judy salamon was murdered by two men who she videotaped committing a crime. The two men that shot her, stephon lee and mario floyd were sentenced to life without parole. Two suspects assaulted a women at a bart station and were arrested. If you are planning on riding bart in the east bay this weekend, expect delays, crews are going to be out rebuilding the tracks. Buses are going to run between the fruitvale and 19th street stations. The closures will continue through several weekends until early july. This morning more than 100 Northern California Police Officers are heading to new jersey for an effort to honor fallen officers, they are biking some 300 miles from new jersey to wawnders. Police are investigating a loss of power at the valero refinery, the loss of power caused pressure that sent heavy black gray and white smoke into the air, several Government Agencies are monitoring the situation for the next few days. Two people reported having nose, eye and threat irritation because of the smoke, north went to the hospital. The whole Industrial Park was evacuated but workers were allowed back, two schools close to the refinery were ordered to shert in place when the fire started. Only a few students had arrived. Parents were told to not drop off their children at school as because of the emergency. San francisco wants pg pg e to compensate them for a power outage, police paid overtime to officers that had to direct traffic and the Department Spent money or emergency generators. Dream catchers is opening today and there will be a new dedication for their new building. Reporter the executive director of Youth Services said this is a deem come true, making the move to a victorian in oakland, its all new on the inside and is all for teens escaping the streets. For seven years, homeless teens, many of them girls, are made their way to dream catchers, some are run aways, they lose more than safety when they leave their homes. They lose their families, their schools, Health Support, income and any help with getting food. Reporter they recognized the need for more help. People of color represent 25 of the United States but they are 75 of girls on the street. Thats a demonstration of exploitation. When they turn to us they are making the only choice other than the potential of losing their life on the streets. Reporter currently dream catchers houses eight beds, thanks to the city of alameda and a grant from other donations, the building next door will have a medical clinic. Its great for at risk teens.
