Security clearances and badges and cards and that sort of thing. We feel safe. We are so happy to be here. You can come see us. There was a lady who came by. Here is my story about getting here this morning. You took the ferry. You and i took bart from oakland. How many times was this guy recognized on bart . I cant even count. You have to say hi to the people. What was it like taking the system upon which you report every day . Its a lot more crowded. I am sitting there in the studio doing traffic and people are doing it and taking bart. Very crowded. The ferries have been crowded. Yeah. We are going to talk about transportation in a minute because youre going to help break to down. But first we have to talk super bowl. Yeah. We have our reporters spread out. Janine de la vega is outside the s. A. P. Center where there is a big night tonight with the media day. We will check in with her in labor day. First lets talk to scott with the broncos outside the santa clara marriott. Good morning, scott. Reporter good morning, mike. And, yeah, we had to make the command decision on whether to set up shop first at the broncos team hotel or the Panthers Team hotel. We decided in deference to the veteran Peyton Manning. Lets do it here. The broncos inside. They are Milling Around. Some having some breakfast, some coffee. They will have Team Meetings during the day. Not a lot of fans here now. Yesterday after the Team Arrivals it was crawling in orange clad football freaks. And speaking of the arrivals yesterday, it was the broncos with the first touchdown at san jose airport. About 3 00 or so yesterday afternoon. Kind of cool. The united jet adorned with broncos logos, flags. The taxi was very dramatic. Of course, as expected one of the first to emerge was the head coach, gary kubiak, along with his wife rhonda. We saw john elway, former bronco and stanford great. Then of course the current bronco quarterback who is pretty good in his own right, Peyton Manning. All smiles as he strolled across the tarmac. Maybe doing this dance for the final time. 39 years old. Could be his final season as a player. Got a glimpse of vernon davis as well. The former 49er who still lives here in the south bay. And then about 50 minutes after that it was the panthers turn. They flew american airlines, by the way. Yes, head coach ron rivera made his early exit from the plane. Ron rivera played his College Football at cal. And then the man that everybody wanted to see, cam newton, and boy he did not disappoint. The versace zebra striped pants that everybodys been talking about. Pretty much broke twitter yesterday afternoon. You could tell how excited cam was. He splinted at a point sprinted across the tarmac. Photo bombed a couple of teammates. We talked about the hugeness of this experience fort meade and the fans. But for the fans its more so. Yesterday was their first taste, mike and gasia, of what this is all about. Scott, let me ask you in regards to the practice. Do you expect the panthers, the broncos to suit up . Will they be in full pads this week, or just tshirts and shorts . Reporter no, no, no. Theyll go. I dont know that it will be full pads every day. I dont have an official wardrobe schedule for the practices. But i imagine that certainly the first couple of days it will be. I mean, this is serious. This is a Football Game. Its an event obviously. But, i mean, at the end of the day both teams are here to win. They are going like any normal game week, they are going to prep the next four days in practice like any other sunday of regular season football. Thats scott reiss, our ktvu sports anchor, one of them down with the broncos in santa clara. You know one of the biggest events is media day for super bowl. Its always been on a tuesday. Right. But this year. They are making it monday night. Its going to be televised on the nfl network. Its a big deal because this is super bowl 50. Lets go life to janine de la vega who is outside s. A. P. Center getting ready already for media day today. Janine. Reporter yeah, they started getting ready hours and hours ago. People were here early in the morning. S. A. P. Center behind me. Black and gold super bowl 50 signs up. The staff from s. A. P. Center is here making sure that only the designated people enter. I also want to show you the police presence. Just in the last couple of minutes as we were waiting to go on, we saw police here starting to put up barricades on autumn street here. You can see they are also putting up those orange pylons there. The nfl is inside. Also preparing for this event we were also told that the Fire Department hazmat team is around, too, prepared for any sort of emergency that might happen. Tonights event starts at 5 p. M. , and thats a departure for the nfl. Typically, the media day is held on tuesday morning, but the nfl is now dubbing the event where the press gets to interview all the players super bowl 50 Opening Night. Now, its going to be broadcast during prime time on the nfl network. Thats also a first. Thousands of journalists are here to interview the players. They are going to be interviewing the players from the broncos and the panthers while fans will get to watch it all from the stands. Now, some locals are happy that this event is being held in san jose since San Francisco is getting a lot of attention with super bowl city and all the events planned there. I think for a lot of people its going to be very, very interesting to see what the nfl brings as far as the whole experience with the San Francisco and san jose trying to unite them together and everything in between. It is exciting. It kind of opens up new avenues for everyone to kind of see what nfl brings to the city. Reporter on the nfls website the tickets are sold out, but you can find some on secondary websites like stubhub. We found some for this Opening Night as low as 34. Thats in the nosebleed section. But they go on all up to a couple hundred dollars if you want to pay some more. All the fans are going to be given gift bags with a radio inside so they can listen to the interviews happening on the floor live. Also musical performances and as well as appearances by cheerleaders. Expect a lot of security. You can see they have metal detectors that are out here right in front of the s. A. P. Center. As well, we have seen a lot of officers sort of Milling Around as well as locals who i have seen on their way to work and they are snapping pictures with their cell phone because, you know, this is they are not used to seeing the banners and excitement here in downtown san jose. Reporter all right. Janine, thank you. We will check back in later on. Lets bring it back to San Francisco. Janine mentioned security in the south bay. The same story here in San Francisco. Joining us live on the nine, San Francisco Police Captain david lazar, Commanding Officer for super bowl city. Things are just getting started. Give us an update on how its been the last couple of days. We are well prepared. We put a good plan in place. We are working with the local, state, and federal partners. This is a very secured area. And so we want to ensure that the people come down and have a good time and feel safe. They are going to see a large police presence. In this day and age, those are the things we think about and we are prepared. When we came in we went on saturday. We had to go through airportstyle security. You have to put your bag on the thing like if you are going to the airport. What kind of people do you have looking for, you know, extra band of showers couldnt cant ra band there . There is officers in regular uniform. Officers intactcal gear. We are very high profile and watching everyone coming through and we have a long list of prohibited items. We are checking bags. We are making sure when you get inside you are safe and everyone around you is as well. When i got off the ferry on saturday thats one of the first things i noticed was your officers intactcal gear. Was there any debate about not showing them in full Tactical Gear . We had a discussion about what kind of presence we want to have. In this day and age if what happened in paris and other parts of the country, we are going to show a visable presence and show the public we are prepared for any possible problems that may occur here. When i was here on saturday with these guys i breezed through security. I made a point of not bringing a purse, not bringing a bag, no stroller. You mentioned prohibited items. What are some of the items people think they can get through, but they actually cant . Well, its interesting you say that because people think that they can get through with their knives and with their different types of pepper spray. Youre kidding . And stun guns and poles and sticks. You have seen this stuff coming through . Well, people have been turned away already at the gates. With this sort of thing . Well take it, go on in. Well, we see that they have brought it and we say you cant bring this in. If you can possess it legally, like pepper spray, for example, you could possess it legally, but not in our venue. Is our biggest concern a softer target outside of the city . Super bowl city. Your muni lines that go elsewhere . We are paying close attention to absolutely everything. Its not just about super bowl city. Its what we are doing at nfl experience. Its what were watching through the city. Now, our Emergency Operations center is up and running. Our department Operations Center is up and running. Its all hands on deck. We are watching. We have our finger on the pulse citywide and regionally and working with federal, state partners. We are looking at the bay area and what is hang in san jose. I guess this is a city thats done big events before. Did you learn from the other cities that have donesuper bowl . I know, mike, you went to super bowl last year. Did you learn anything from them, the other cities best practices, those kinds of things, as to what to do for a big event like this . Thats what we do. We had a whole contingent of Police Officers who went to the last super bowl and watched their Law Enforcement and we took notes and it was part of our planning. There are Law Enforcement agencies that are in San Francisco right now in anticipation of the next super bowl. Super bowl li. So, yeah, we are studying these plans and have put them together. You get a chance as a native, someone who has been on the force for 25 years, to take a step back and soak it all in that this is happening . We havent had a super bowl in Northern California for more than 30 years. This is great. I mean, we as Police Officers are excited. I have to tell you that. We have Something Big like this. We are a city that knows how in San Francisco between world series parades. We have looked at what we have done good and the things we needed to improve on and put together a good plan for in. Thanks, captain. Have a great week. Thank you very much. Pleasure to be here. Taking a short break. Staying here on the 9. We are going to turn to the news of the day in a moment and the fact that there is a federal review expected to be announced today. The San Francisco actions when it comes to the shooting death of mario woods. We will have that in a moment. Also, in iowa we are going to take you live out there to ktvus ross polumbo. The caucuses get underway when the 9 returns. Caress presents the worlds first body wash with fragrance release pearls. Touch your skin to release fragrance up to 12 hours. New caress love forever. After all the debates and there have been a lot of them, it is time to get real when it comes for the race to the white house. The Iowa Caucuses are today. Let go live now to des moines, iowa, ktvu political reporter ross polumbo is joining us live this morning. Good morning, ross. Reporter good morning, everyone. You know, countdown to super bowl there, but its already the political super bowl here. The Iowa Caucuses now just eight hours away, and we are set to cover it for you all day long. We are in the fox news headquarters here in Downtown Des Moines right now. I want to give you a look at the news channel setup here. This is the set that you have seen anchor brett bear come to you live 24 hours a day for the past week. Over here, take a look at this. This is where you see all those people that are in boxes when they are talking to the apingers. Thats the interview set over there. That is what the person being interviewed sees. This is a little look of the behind the scenes. It takes a lot of technology to bring all of this to you. Lets get to the candidates. Donald trump has been campaigning across the state. He was in sioux city, iowa just last night until late into the night. He was there with Jerry Fallwell jr. Campaigning. He is shoring up support somewhere evangelicals. 50 of gop caucus goers are evangelicals. A key group there. He came out yesterday saying he would appoint Supreme Supreme Court justice to reverse gay marriage. Ton ted cruz. He has been losing support. He was in davenport last night to reverse all of that. And all of this coming as controversy of his mailers claiming voter violations. The secretary of state here says they look like official tickets and are inappropriate. Cruz says hell do, though, what it takes to get the votes. And we are going to continue to use every tool we can to encourage the men and women of iowa to come out, to caucus on monday night and to stand together as one. Reporter we caught up with Carly Fiorina at the fox news headquarters. She didnt want it to talk to us this morning, even though she is doing 2 in the polling. She doesnt believe those polls are accurate. On to the democrats. Hillary clinton and Bernie Sanders in a statistical dead heat. They held rallies in des moines here late last night. Hillary made her closing arguments with husband bill and her daughter chelsea by her side. This is her email scandal continuing to plague her. Friday 22 new classified emails arrived. She says they werent classified when she sent them. Finally, Bernie Sanders in des moines making his final argument. He is still not attacking hillary on her emails, but he is speaking out still against wall street, big business and corporate america. Again one more time, the caucuses are just eight hours away here. We will be here all day long to keep you covered from beginning to end. Now, unlike california, the polls dont open during the day. They are not open all day long. People show up at the caucuses. Thats going to be happening at 5 p. M. Bay area time. And thats when it really all starts, about an hour and a half people get together and start casting the votes. As soon as the returns come in we will bring you the very latest. Back to you. Thank you, ross. Now time to check some of the headlines around the bay. Lets go to dave clark in our ktvu studios with the headlines. Sal, thank you. Here are some of the top stories we are following. Today the Justice Department will announce it will conduct a review of the San Francisco Police Department after the Fatal Shooting of mario woods. Mario woods was shot at least 15 times by five Police Officers december 2nd. It sparked protests and calls for police reform. Mayor ed lee and police chief greg suhr will join the federal officials for that announcement. Many protesters are demanding the mayor and the police chief resign. A lawyer for mario woods family says this may start the healing process between the Minority Community and the police. Well, Oakland Police are planning a Pedestrian Safety crackdown today. They will be out looking for drivers who speed, make illegal turns, or dont stop for people crossing the streets. Those officers will also ticket pedestrians who cross the street illegally. Now, Oakland Police say they investigated almost 900 traffic crashes involving pedestrians over the past three years. And a program that would give condoms to San Francisco middle school students, it will be debated today. It was introduced by the superintendent of the San Francisco unified school district. The San Francisco examiner reports students would need to meet with a school nurse for a social worker before they would get that condom. A School Board Committee will talk about this proposal at their meeting tonight at 6 00. Those are just a couple of your morning headlines. Gas yeah, mike and sal, back to you. All right. Dave, thank you very much. As i mentioned, i took the ferry in. I was going to get some work done. Then i ran into an old college friend. We wound up talking for 35 minutes and threw the work out the door. A nice way to go to work. Let me ask you Something Real quick. Did you notice how crowded the ferries were . Yes, they were packed. Not that i take them every day. I asked jay, do you take this every day . He said no. I am not driving in. He took the ferry for the first time. They were packed. A lot of people are taking transit. They are not using their car. Coming up on mornings on 2 the 9, we are going to have a look at what its like getting around the city in the days of super bowl city. We have a couple of people who can help you out. Thats coming up on the 9. Welcome back to mornings on 2 the 9. We are looking at a busy week in San Francisco. A lot of people have been trying to get in and out of the city, and its been kind of crowded these last few days. In fact, a lot of people have not chosen to chosen not to drive into the city, bringing in jim allison from bart and peter albert from the San Francisco ma. Guys, first of all, personally, i have had a good time taking transit. Everythings got flawlessly. So first of all, with you peter, can you tell me what kind of planning went into making a plan for super bowl city street closures, transit routes . I know the f market is not running. What kind of things went into the plan . Thank you. First of all, the primary concern was safety. We knew we were going to be moving a lot of people. We wanted to make sure it was a safe experience. We worked not just with bart. We worked with the whole region. The f market is running. Its not the trolley. Its the bus that connects the trolley. Thats the kind of detail we had to take care of. Even if you are not coming for super bowl city, just trying to get to work, you can still get around. We tried to make sure whether you are living here or working here or coming to visit, you can get down here. One more followup. Did you plan on more people using the system that normally wouldnt use the system because they didnt want to drive down here . Yes. The short answer for that one, yes. We hope that people have a great First Impression for the first time on transit. Jim allison from bart, are you running longer trains . This morning on bart we got on to a packed train. It was crowded. Are you anticipating more people not driving across the bay bridge and coming into the city . We are running longer trains. As many people know, we are not able to add trains to the schedule. What we are able to do is add cars to the trains and make them longer for extra capacity to carry people. And they are taking kind of a threelayered approach. The first layer is to look at the calendar, look at the locations, and match the demands to the busiest times in spots. So really monday and tuesday of this week are not anticipated to be as busy as wednesday. Thats when wednesday through next saturday, thats going to be our busiest period. Do you have tips for people taking bart maybe for the first time . Maybe they drive all the time and they dont know that maybe its easier to buy your ticket for the whole week, that kind of thing . That is a good tip. The clipper cards are available. They have these special super bowl clipper cards. And to get that loaded up with cash, to buy a round trip ticket so you are not stuck waiting in line it to make your trip home. And the other is to, if you are going to super bowl city or nfl experience, you are going to be coming into the city midday probably. So dont expect to find a parking spot in a bart lot. Use ac transit or many of the other bus services or free shuttles that provide trips to bart. Leave the car at home. Have a whole Public Transportation experience. You will enjoy yourself more. Peter, so mta also handles street closures. Mta is not just muni, but its all the people out here directing traffic. All the street closures. What kind of things did you have to for example, you could only cross market on one street. How did you come up with that plan . How are people using the detours . Well, first of all, yes. Were much more than muni. I think people really do have to understand how complicated this challenge has been. Its traffic, bicycle, pedestrians. So the street closures were tricky because people live and work here. They need deliveries. They need to be able to get to the garages. We created a credential system that allow people it who live in the area to get past the street closure. We wanted through traffic kept at a distance because all of our buses needed to be able to get around. So we looked at three layers of maps. The map of the pedestrian realm right here. Super bowl city. The second layer would be all the transit connections that help get like the buses that are rolling past, get people in and out without traffic congestion. The through traffic pushed out farther. That only works when everybody cooperates and follows the information we have tried to give to get people to take transit, telecommute, all of these things. I can tell you this. Maybe, jim, you have had the same experience. We have had record ridership. Thats great. We have seen much less congestion than some of the dire predictions. People are following the instructions, making live easier for everybody. Thats great to here. Jim, good experience for bart riders . From personal experience, i got on a train from fremont to San Francisco. The train was crowded, but not packed to the gills. We have carried more than a half Million People a couple of times with the victory parades. And then in terms of our ridership, on saturday it was our second highest saturday ever in the 43 year history of bart. We have been preparing with muni and the other agencies for a long final for this. I hope it goes well for the rest of the week. So far off to a good start. Thank you for joining us on murrysville the 9. Coming up, mike and gasia came down on saturday and they got to explore super bowl city. There is mike. Look at that. And gasia was there, too. We will find out what they did when they were playing around super bowl city. Bowl c and we are gearing up for the big game here in San Francisco. We are live this morning inside of super bowl city at the foot of market. We are going to show you some of the attractions here. We will also introduce you coming up to a broncos super fan. Already here in town for super bowl 50. All right. That time of the morning when we like to check our twitter feed. We asked at the top of the newscast if you have been down to super bowl city, what did you like . Maybe something you did not like. What are you seeing . A couple of responses. We want the truth and thats what you guys are giving us. Jesus writes i was let down. It seems more appealing to those not from San Francisco. Saw the embarcadero with cubicles everywhere. David lopez says i would rather watch it on tv. No crowds. No traffic. And somebody says i plan on going this weapons to show cam newton and the panthers the super dad. Sal, anything . I was reading i lost it. What is up with the lets see. To, i dont see it. I lost it. Sorry. Okay. Its gone. Maybe its not for everyone. Right. If you plan on coming down, a lot of people having a lot of fun, let us know how you feel about it. Ktvu the 9 is the hashtag. Letscheckinwithstevepaulson nwhattoexpect lets check in with Steve Paulson for weather. Breeze coming through you on the ferry . Yes. Clear skies. Nice and clouds will come in a little later. It was all about yesterdays system that came by. Left thunderstorm activity, hail, breeze. The breezy isnt as strong for all. That cold air yesterday started to filter it and it started with the beginning of some of the super bowl festivities. This was yesterday in santa clara. So cold for the heart concert in santa clara that ann wilson was freezing and had to put on a coat. I dont blame her. You could really feel that yesterday afternoon. All good right now. A few maybe high clouds. They will come in a little later. Our system that gave us the wind and the rain and the cold yesterday and the hail has moved off into arizona. Its 41 in las vegas right now. Cloudy and windy. 40s for us here. Had a couple of 30s and a few 20s in lake county this morning. Right now its the breeze. I tell you fairfield, vacaville, its howling. Oakland airport has gusts to 25 miles per hour. Its out of the northnorthwest almost unanimous here. It will be a breezy, blustery day. It will give us some rain tomorrow. Not a lot. Just a little bit. If you are heading to super bowl city, our own alex savidge said it was freezing there this morning. Looks a little better now. Mostly sunny skies and in the 50s. So a little bit of cloud cover the next couple of days, you guys, but not as cold tomorrow morning as it was this morning. Okay. Steve paulson, thank you so much. Youre welcome. Very breezy. Breezy, breezy here in San Francisco. We dont have those good trees behind us like we do in oakland. We do above my head. Remember how we worry about rain . Ways going to say would you rather have the breeze and cold air or the rain . Breeze. We were all here or saturday and we did some of the fun things there is to do in super bowl city. First of all, we checked out a couple statues that pop up and you stick your head in the center. Lets take a look at what happened. Mike, i thought you thought the broncos were going to win it. I do. The bronco one is not working right now. I wanted to stand up and say throw me the ball, gasia. Is this what you looked like in high school . Just about. 64. 240. Maybe a little shorter. 165. There you go. The bronco one, there is a similar one, sal, down will. Someone stood on it and it kind of broke. Right. I got to check out if they put that one back up. Bronco fans pay be a little angry about that. Let me ask you this. Please. Did you sample any of the food or adult beverages . You know me. I do know you. There is some fantastic food booths and beverage booths down here. Take a look. Well, what do we have here . Budweiser. Bud lite. This kind of catches my eye. Craft and premium beer with a souvenir cup. Lets not saying anything. I am going to sneak in here, see if they didnt notice me. Ladeda. Looks like they have a nice apocalypse ipa. Dont mind me. Belgium white . Not a big fan of the belgium white. If somebody handed it to me and said whats your favorite beer . The one in my hand. Lets bring in our expert, the chef herself, gasia, what do you think of this . Southern Fried Chicken sandwich, if i had 20 the fried shrimp po boy and i would have to drink water. I love it. I dont know if you are eat organizers drinking more. Its early for the beer. A little of both. On this particular day, its not even noon. There is a lot of morning beer happening. Yes. Thats our cue. All right. I wasnt able to go and sample those adult beverages. Mike. Yes . If i want to leave here in the middle of the day and get myself a craft beer . Can i . You can if you would like one. And there is another one, not necessarily there on tap. Goose ipa. They have booths around super bowl city. Its just in a can. And of course they have the big bud lite tent. Bud lite a big sponsor of super bowl city. Our resident foot expert gasia, did you try the food . I did. I am going to hopefully go do some of that today. It looked great. You cant go wrong with it. Fried shrimp p oboy. I did have a couple of people ask me do you have to buy the food thats in super bowl city . There is a subway at the foot of market and that was open and that was packed, too. I brought my lunch today. Peanut butter and jelly. Dont leave home without it. I think the sandwiches we were looking at is 12 bucks a pop. If you dont want to spend 12 bucks for the sandwich and eight bucks for the beer, there are more affordable options outside super bowl city. You two give me hard time about drinking beer. I am not the only one. Alex savidge is a fan of beer. He is in super bowl city right now. Right, alex . Youre a fan . Reporter i am with you, mike. Thank you. Reporter i am a huge fan. Come on. Seriously. Reporter hey, you guys, speaking of which, we are inside super bowl city. Obviously, a big party zone. All sorts of attractions. Food, drink, and plenty of beer for the big game, right . I think we are going to be just fine here. Its going to be a good time, obviously. The super bowl festivities ramp up today. Check this out. We are already seeing some fans, some broncos fans arriving here in town. Check out the gentleman we caught up with here. He is a broncos super fan. Rocky the colorado leprechaun. He was on the embarcadero just a short time ago and we were talking with him. He is a staple at broncos games. Has been for more than 30 years. He keeps the crowd fired up in denver. He told me he is leading the charge here to the bay area as broncos fans begin to make their way to town for super bowl 50. I entertain them. I am green and gold most the time. When i entertain at bronco games, we entertain in the orange and blue. I support anything colorado. You know what . I come for the gold, you know. Reporter while of course football fans are here and ready to take in all the sights and sounds at super bowl city, this event is turning out to be somewhat of a hassle for commuters and thats because the entire foot of market is shut down from embarcadero all the way over to beal. And peel who are trying to make their way downtown to Office Buildings are having to pass through the security checkpoints in order to walk through Justin Herman plaza. So this morning we saw a big rush at certain points. Especially when ferries were letting out and ferry riders had to wait in long lines to go through the checkpoints, have their bags searched. We talked to some commuters who were a bit frustrated. A waste of taxpayers money. How come . All the security being provided and all the inconvenience to businesses and commuters. All right. And along with super bowl city, the other big attraction here in San Francisco is the nfl experience. We will show you a live picture here this morning of mosconi center. Thats the home of the nfl experience. Its really an interactive footballthemed park. That opens up for the first time today at 3 00 this afternoon. And as a matter of fact, this is important for bay area football fans. If you show your love for the 9ers or the raiders, you show up in raiders or 49ers gear today, you get 5 off the price of admission. Admission, by the way, 35 for adults. 25 for kids. And again nfl experience opens up today. 3 00 this afternoon. We also, guys, figured that we wanted to come see what this set looks like here. Hey, guys. There you are. Hey. Reporter so this is the wow, a surprise there. Reporter hey, guys. Yeah, figured wed drop by and say hi. Its freezing out here. Can i come inside . No. I noticed a sweep of the hair, alex. Dont worry. It looks good. People walking by are like, what is this guy talking . Police are like, sir, you need to move on. In San Francisco no one questions that. Thank you so much alex. We are talking all things San Francisco, all things bay area. We are going to bring in joe from the San Francisco travel association. Thanks for joining us here on the 9. Is there any better advertisement for San Francisco than whats happening this week . Absolutely not. The entire worlds eyes are on San Francisco. Its not just the United States program. Its around the world people are watching super bowl. Its one of those really exciting things. The largest single day sporting event on earth. And its all about San Francisco and the bay area this year. So its really a great opportunity for us. The bay area such a magnet over the degrees years years and decades for tourism already. Is there any part of you that feels this is maybe an audition for having the super bowl back in the bay area and having the fans come back to San Francisco in the future . Absolutely. We really hope that this super bowl will be the best ever. An experience nobody has ever experienced before, and that the nfl and that the teams will want to come back to San Francisco and do this again. Many cities have repeatedly had the super bowl. The bms of hotels and restaurants, what do they do to prepare . Give the best light possible to visitors. Give the best experiences, the best opportunities so they want to come back. Joe, one of the things about San Francisco is they have done a lot of events. I am a lifelong san franciscan. We have had a lot of events. Are we pretty good at it now . We are very good at it. Whether its the world series type of event or the u. S. Open, they love the experience that they have in San Francisco. Not only because its a beautiful place to have the event, but there is great food, great wine, great opportunities, great experiences beyond the event that people can enjoy. A lot of cities dont have this type of things to offer. The bay area does. How long have you been planning for this . Three years now. Just a few more days and its here. Is there rooms available . Yes, there are. There is still Tickets Available to the game. And because the city has done this so many times, some cities that maybe dont have big tourism components might come here and try to learn from you, right . Absolutely. Were meeting with a number of cities that are future host cities for the super bowl in this week to look at what were doing, how they can do it better, what experiences we have had hosting super bowl this year. See those attractions. People should experience our neighborhoods. We have some of the most interesting neighborhoods from the Mission District to the caster, the haightashbury, the richmond. The stars of the other teams took the field in highway hawaii hawaii pro bowl hawaii pro bowl. Russell wilson playing for team irvin. A great game. Throwing for three touchdown passes. Offensive milpitas. Team irvin won. Raiders quarterback derek carr had one quarterback pass. This was Charles Woodsons last nfl game after 18 seasons. Super bowl 50 signs can be seen all over San Francisco, as you know. They have been the target of vandals. The sign in alamo square was removed yesterday morning. Now, vandals have altered the words on the statue and knocked it over a couple of times. The Super Bowl Committee says it was taken away for repairs and may be brought to a different location after its fixed. There is also a statue in front of city hall that has been vandalized as well, but that remains in place. The talk of the newsroom this morning. Carolina panthers quarterback cam newton made a loud fashion statement while on his way to the bay area for super bowl 50. Take a look. Yes. Spotted wearing these zebra print jeans and then running. Twitter was abuzz with many trying to find out the designer. The pants are which versace, and they cost about 850. Mike mibachs got me covered. They look to be sold out online as well. Well, as you have seen, we are broadcasting from the Federal Reserve building in downtown San Francisco. We took a little backstage tour. Check it out. Inside you find a dollar by dollar evolution of money, including paper scraps from before the declaration of independence. Now, after the revolutionary war money was created and traded and during the gold rush bay area banks issued gold certificates. By the civil war there were 8,000 banks issuing their own currency. So in 1913 the Federal Reserve was created to standardized americas money. Anybody could have created currencies during that time because private banks and counties, states, local communities were all taking their own currency to facilitate trade and transactions. Now to see the display for yourself all you need to do is call the Federal Reserve to book a tour. All right. 9 48. Back to gasia, mike, and sal at the federal reis serve building. Mike, i know you got a pair of those cam newton pants, no. The bank is going to give me a loan and then i will get those versace pants. Okay. If i had that kind of money, oh my gosh. That kind of money . Sam, you could pull it off. Maybe. Ktvu sports anchor, your Sports Department has been busy. What is it like to have the super bowl here. You working 24 7 . Yeah. Funny there is a Football Game at the end of the week, right . All this talk about super bowl city and everything going on. One things for sure. There will be a champion in the nfl crowned on sunday about 7 00 at night. Yeah, its been very busy. Mark and joe will be out at media day. Thats going to be great. 2,000 to 2,500 credentialed members of the media will be there. They charge for fans to be out. It will be televised in prime time. Thats the big event today certainly. But the game. There is a game. There is a game. There are so many story lines. The cam newtonPeyton Manning head to head is fantastic. Thats the best. I mean, you got two number one overall draft picks. This is the battle of number ones here. You have the two drafts pick number one over all. 13 years apart. You have the two top seeds in the nfl, the broncos and panthers. The highest scoring offense with the panthers against the best defense in the nfl in the broncos. So the interesting thing about this matchup, we havent seen it. These teams have met four times in history. Havent met since 2012. So this an intriguing matchup. I think its going to be a good one. Can you give me an honest assessment of Peyton Manning in he is not the Peyton Manning of the first super bowl he played with in the colts, obviously. He is older. Can he still bring this team to victory, or is it just something that you dont think is going to happen . I want to know how many omaha audibles are actually audibles. He is faking everybody out. He is changing the play or not . He has thrown nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions this year. He is one of the lowest rated quarterbacks in the nfl. It feels kind of like the broncos are winning in spite of manning this year because their defense is so good. But dont underestimate him. Its Peyton Manning. He has maybe one good game left in his career. We shall see on sunday. If he wins, hes gone, right . I believe so, yeah. I dont think he has the arm strength. I dont think he can do it one more year. I think win or lose, i think he hangs it up. The broncos are favored to win, if i am not panthers. Sorry. Almost a touchdown. Yeah. So which team who do you expect to see more of at the stadium . Oh, fanswise . The broncos have been in eight super bowls. Panthers just two. You know, i dont know. Carolina fans, steph curry is going to be out there after he plays. Thats the ticket, by the way. Saturday night the warriors are playing against oklahoma at home. Everybody its gonna be like the lakers in the 80s. The pr guy for the warriors is busy finding seats for celebrities. Thats his job this week. Yeah. You know, i dont know who is going to travel better. I think carolina, their fans travel better. Denver is closer. Bay area story lines . Not many of them. But the head coach of the panthers. Yeah. From monterey. Cal guy. Good story himself. Ron rivera, great story. Wasnt to seaside high just out of monterey. Allamerican at cal. Played with the bears. Won a title in 1985 as a young backup linebacker there. Ron rivera is one of the big angles i guess. C. J. Anderson the running back for the broncos, he went to cal. He is a local angle. Jared allen, defensive lineman for the carolina panthers, he is a local guy. He went to los gatos high school. There are a few. Not many. Not as many as in past super bowls. I notice when the broncos lose a super bowl, which they have done, they get blown out. Their doubledigit. 57 and 10. I remember that. 49er fans remember that one well. We will see. I think it might be a good one. Yep. Hopefully. Thanks, jason. We will be right back here on the 9. On the 9 after trying brookside chocolate, people talk about it online. Love at first taste. I would liquefy it and bathe in it. Curse you, brookside your nefarious plans have succeeded. Nefarious . Are we still talking about chocolate . Brookside. Talk about delicious. The first super bowl i covered adds someone who works in this business as super bowl xv. It was in new orleans. It was the raiders against the Philadelphia Eagles. And the raiders were going for their second super bowl championship. That was the week that john matusz sack was outparting on bourbon street and the raiders didnt care about curfew. It was the just win baby mentality. Here is how naive i was. I was Walking Around bourbon street super bowl week and noticing, i have never seen so many attractive women with their fathers. And, you know, no one had presented the concept of trophy wife to me before, but that was how naive i was. And so that was my first exposure to that. It was a life learning lesson at super bowl xv, which by the way once the game started, that was the game where or the week where the eagles were on lockdown and they had a curfew and the raiders said, hey, go out and have a good time. Just show up on sunday and win. Thats exactly what happened. Jim plunkett was the mvp and the raiders beat the Philadelphia Eagles pretty soundly. Jim plunkett. 2710 was the final. There you go. Memories for joe fonzi. Our sports team is chiming in with their memories of super bowls past as we talk about super bowl present. We are thankful you joined us here. Ktvu the 9 is in San Francisco super bowl city all week long. I knew the score because i printed out the history of super bowl winners. Just, you know, i talked to jason about the deficits the broncos have. They lost 2710. 3920, 4210, 438. Thats an average of 28 points. At least they got to the super bowl. If you are a denver fan, at least you got there. I was at super bowl xlviii in new yorknew jersey and people were leaving early because it was such a lopsided score.
