We begin with ktvus ken pritchett. Reporter its fairly quiet where we are right now outside of at t park. Most of the fans have left the area around the ballpark. Look around the street at the restaurant, a lot of fans still celebrating this victory tonight, earlier just after the game, fans were cheering as they poured out of at t park. High fives, and celebration after a victory in game 1 of the world series. All of the fans that we talked to agreed on what was the highlight of this game. Sandoval, he came through huge. He did his thing. He represented. Oh, my god. He saw him hit one. I saw him hit two, and then i saw him hit three baby oh, my god. Panda sandoval. He almost had four the highlight for you . Sandoval. It was crazy. And zito rocked it as well. We couldnt have asked for a better game to start it off. Were going to win. Reporter we are here at second and king. This is where the players actually leave the ballpark. Just about 15 minutes ago, we saw right fielder hunter pence come out here on a scooter, and stop and talk to some fans. A surreal moment after a win in game 1 of the world series. For more on the fans, and the happenings here outside of at t park, well send it now to ktvus ken wayne. Reporter were on a rooftop across from Willie Mays Plaza here at 3rd and king at at t park. We have some light sprinkles here, enough to get the road a little slick. Not causing troubles here tonight. All of the intersections and all the streets around at t park are open again. It took about an hour or so to get all 35,000 fans out of the stadium. Now youre looking at the diehards who are lingering, and soaking in this victory in game 1 of the world series. We did see. You were talking about the hunter pence, and giants players coming out. We saw the detroit buses come out from our end of the stadium. As the buses rolled on by, a lot of giants fans let out a big loud boo as the buses rolled by. You can hear the horns out there. People still celebrating. Live in San Francisco, ken wayne, ktvu, channel 2 news. The giants made it look surprisingly easy tonight. Solid pitching from barry zito, plenty of hitting at the top of the lineup, and of course the panda. Sports director mark ibanez is on the field now at at t park, with his take on game 1. Reporter my take on this thing is giant fans were just off the hook tonight. I think they helped rattle verlander on the mound, and the Detroit Tigers as a whole. But weve got a new mr. October. Well call him senior october. Pablo sandoval. He let it go, with a shot off to center field. His night was just getting started. Its not hyperbole to say it was an historic night. Just incredible. It wouldnt be the end of it for Pablo Sandoval. This time, a man on, to the opposite field. He takes verlander deep, and for those of you just joining us, remember, he had a bases loaded triple in the allstar game off this guy. Barry zito, will get the victory. He comes through again. Went 5 2 3 innings. Just 1 run. And he is the winner. Pablo, not finished. Again against al albuquerque. Way gone to center field. On the night for pablo, three home runs, one single, and four rbis. The tigers completely stymied. They scored a couple of meaningless runs in the 9th inning, but the giants take game 1, 83, beating the tigers ace handily, and theyve got the momentum clearly in this series. Three games away from a world series title. At at t, im mark ibanez, back to you, frank and julie. Three home runs in one World Series Game has only been achieved by a handful of players. Babe ruth did it twice in 1926, and 1928. Reggie jackson did it in 1977. Albert pujols with the cardinals last year, and now Pablo Sandoval doing it this evening. In the east bay, the hop yard bar and grill was rocking tonight. The giant fans were rooting not just for the family, but also their hometown hero. They didnt want to single out any one player. Its a team effort, honestly. You got to love it. You know what . Its awesome. Im an as fan, but right now im on the bandwagon. Coming up at 10 30, were going to hear from Brandon Crawfords high school coach. With the world series in town, hundreds of people are flocking to San Francisco hoping to score a ticket to one of the games. Tonight, we found scale pers doing a brisk business. Back to ken wayne at Willie Mays Plaza. Reporter its a hot ticket. If you want to deal with a scalper, youre taking a chance. First of all, its illegal. And second, if you buy a scalpers ticket, theres no way of knowing if that ticket will get you into the game. Still, plenty of giants fans were willing to take that chance. Buyers and sellers, negotiating prices. Ill give you 700 for all three. Ill wait. Im right here. Reporter scalpers are trying to get top dollar. You want face value . Yeah. Whats the most expensive ticket you sold . Lower box. How much . That was 600. Reporter the secret for buyers is to wait until the game starts. Prices have dropped about 100 in the last hour. You get a better deal if you want. But if you want to plan ahead, you want to get it, two or three days ago, yeah, youre going to pay 1,000. At this point of the game, i would pay 250 a ticket. Which is above face value. Reporter but how do you know if the ticket is valid. Experts say have them walk you to the gate. Not just a print out. Have you been burned before . I have had friends that have been burned, i personally havent. Reporter if the system works, fans see the game, and the scalpers make a profit. Ill go home and watch the game, and count what i got. Reporter we could see a lot of scalping action. By the way, that tactic of waiting to the last minute to buy a ticket, im told also works on stubhub, and other internet sites. If you wait until just before game time, desperate Ticket Holders will try to unload those tickets. You might get a bargain. The quest for the best view of tonights game took one fan to dangerous heights. The man climbed up San Franciscos lefty odoole bridge. Police say he was arrested for trespassing. There are other ways to watch the game for free that wont get you arrested. Giant fans know there are free seats pretty close to the action. John sasaki live at mccovey cove with that part of the action. Reporter fans couldnt score a ticket to the game, but that didnt stop them from being out here. The best part was as usual, the free area outside the arcade. We were inside as barry zito knocked in the giants 5th run, and these fans went wild. We bringing it back. We didnt have the one year last year. We had it in 2010. Were going to bring it back for 2012. It feels incredible. We get in here for free i feel amazing, the boys are playing the drums. Everybody is alive here. Theres a lot of love. Im loving it reporter one more person we saw with an amazing view, climbed to the top of a mass in the cove, and appeared to be able to see in the park. Or if you told me the cy young winner was going to go. I would say yeah, Justin Verlander. But it didnt go that way. Justin verlander had only allowed 2 hits in 3 postseason games this year. I still cant believe it. Part of a dream. Being in the world series. But three home runs in one game. That was quite a performance by him. Were not known for our power, but its nice to get three home runs, and just a tremendous night. I know hell never forget. I was expecting a game that was going to be 10, 20. If we were going to win it was probably going to be 10, or 2 0. To go up, you know early in the game like that, get first blood, get the momentum going, and then to just cap it off with a couple more, and a single as well. It was just awesome. The Detroit Tigers have to be a little bit bothered right now. 6 home runs in the postseason for Pablo Sandoval, 3 tonight in a very historic fashion. 83 is your final. It will be doug fister against Madison Bumgarner tomorrow. The giants are like one big freight train. Those tigers ran into a buzz saw tonight. Thank you for trusting ktvu channel 2 news.
