We have new video tonight of a man whos officers say tried to rob a Jewelry Store in san bruno by threatening to blow it up. This is Surveillance Footage from inside root college jewelers. You see the man there at one point he unzips his sweatshirt claiming to have a bomb. Police say he told the clerk to hand over jewelry or he would detonate the explosive. The clerk said police were already on their way so the man took off running without any jewelry. And now to the north bay where a young mother is facing dui charges after police say she drove her car into a marsh with her young son inside. The car ended up in the mud as the tide was coming in. The driver is identified as 24 yearold Ashley Anderson of San Francisco. Officers say her 7yearold son was in the front seat and not properly restrained. The chp said the woman told officers she had gotten lost. A witness says she was speeding. The cop basically told me that they immediately took the mom out. Put her in the back of the cop car and she basically passed out. Wasnt even coherent. Reporter in addition to the dui, anderson is facing charges of driving without a license and felony child endanger. Her son was turned over to family members. Jury deliberations were turned over. Carlos nava was caught in a cross fire in which police say was a shoot out between gang members. Willie torrence and leonard are being charged. If convicted they could spend life in prison. Witnessings say a man deliberately set his truck on witnesses say a man deliberately set his truck on fire and that brought the morning commute to a standstill. The man has been identified as roman batista. Hes now in the hospital. This incident does not appear to have been planned and was not a terrorist attack. Reporter it was at the peak of the morning commute, chopper 2 captured the back up. A driver stopped his pickup truck and intentionally set it on fire. He looked like he was trying too threaten the firemen who were spraying him and his car. And he had a big smile on his face. It was absolutely out of his mind. The first was reported on adobe road near stage golch road at about 3 00 this afternoon. Water drops from a Fire Department or a department of forestry helicopter helped knock down the fire. It had burned about 7 acres. No word yet on a cause. Firefighters were quickly to put out two grass fires. Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of that fire but say the fires do not appear to be connected to near by homeless encampment over the past few hours, the high clouds have been moving into the bay area, moving in from the north. Now workers from the towing company tell me the driver had been trying to back the cement truck up the road here and miss negotiated the downhill slope on one side of the road. And because the cement was top heavy that was enough to flip it on its side. Were told the driver suffered minor injuries. Neighbors including the homeowner who lives here says theyre glad no one was seriously hurt. The truck was flipped upside down. The cap was damaged and it slipped right on the corner of my property. Some landscaping was messed up. I think this is like the second incident of these large construction trucks coming up here and trying to navigate these very narrow treats up here. Most of these drivers come up here. They get lost in the hills. They dont know how to drive on the hills. Reporter workers tell me it took three tow trucks to get the damaged cement truck back up right. Police say the accident happened shortly after noon and the road was closed for more than nine hours. Reopening in only about the last hour or so. Now workers say this cement truck is way too big to tow down these narrow roads. So tomorrow mechanics will see if its possible to drive the truck down the hill. If not they may have to take it apart and bring it down piece by piece. Federal investigators now say the truck driver blamed in the crash involving actor comedian tracy morgan was going 20 Miles Per Hour over the speed limit. The National Transportation board released a preliminary investigation. A good friend of his was killed. Investigators say truck driver kevin roper was going 65 Miles Per Hour in a Construction Zone on the new jersey turnpike when he plowed right into morgans limovan. Roper is now been charged with vehicle homicide. As for tracy morgan hes been upgraded. As soon as next week, the department of San Jose Police may have to add mandatory overtime. Reporter san jose has hundreds fewer Police Officers than it should. Because our levels are at critical stages, we want to ensure that our officers are safe. Reporter the Police Department must have a certain number of people patrolling the streets so its implementing a mandatory hold over or overtime policy over the next week. They will be asked to hold over for a minimum of three hours, midnights two hours. Again well take volunteers. Reporter thats on top of the 10 hour shifts the police union say its officers already work. Making it more dangerous for them and its citizens. Reporter just a few years ago there were 1,400 officers now less than 900. We have another crop of new recruits that will be joining the department during Field Training program now. So as the department continues to add officers, the amount of overtime will probably reduce. Reporter major reed and other city leaders are optimistic but it might not be enough. Police union Officials Say they expect upwards of 300 total officers to either resign or retire in just the next two years. And mandatory overtime likely will not help retain officers. Our officers have already been identified by the city auditor as being overworked and fatigued. Shes warned that additional burden upon our patrol is dangerous and unsafe. The rhetoric is that the Police Officer association is putting the blame on the city but i wish they would actually put the residents at the forefront and help us to make sure that officers stay with the city of san jose. Also in san jose, police are asking for help tonight in identifying a bank robbery suspect. They say the man seen in these pictures robbed a bank on the villages parkway about 12 30 monday afternoon. He demanded money from a teller then ran out of the bank. Police say this robbery happened about three hours after another bank robbery on lincoln avenue. Investigators say they still dont know if those two robberies are related. Crews will be fogging for mosquitoes in an effort to help control west nile virus. They will be spraying on both side of highway 105 between the cities of saratoga where infected mosquitoes have been found. Fogging will last for several hours. This is the first time crews have sprayed for the mosquito bourn illness. The area to be sprayed is just west of highway 101 to el camino real. An infected mosquito was found in that area. San franciscos world famous lombard street will be off limit to cars to hopefully appease frustrated residents. The board of supervisors voted to close the curvy lombard four weekends this summer. Its after complaints of swarming tourists. The closure does not affect people who live on the street from driving to and from their homes. Californians have responded. The governor requested ideas for projects to improve human powered transportations such as bicycles and walking. He eventually put his clothes back on and boarded another bus. A park Police Officer pulled over 46yearold erik smith near christie field back in april. Court papers indicate chris intends to plead guilty. New developments tonight concerning an alleged attack on a student in a wheelchair by Oakland School security guards. Dozens of researchers at the centers for Disease Control are being treated for possible anthrax exposure but the cdc says so far no one has gotten sick. 76 lab workers may have been infected last week.
