Compared to a twopoint lead back in august. In michigan, clinton is ahead by
seven, which means i think shell win michigan in a new detroit news poll. In new hampshire, clinton also leads by seven. Thats a very powerful fact. New hampshire should be even steven, according to new wbur poll. Meanwhile, fox news has a new national poll. Clinton leads trump by 4340 in a fourway race. Still close. Thats your point. My point, theres a lot of issues that divide this country pretty much 50 50. Clintons up two points since earlier this month while trump has remained steady. There is a national can we stop for a second. Theres a National Debate over a lot of economic issues, and social issues, and war issues that are really worthy of debate. Is it good for the country, people say, we just love the way things are going and elect hillary. If thats the message, i think its disastrous. Theres a real debate over, trump is a terrible vessel to make those charges. But it is a charge made by a lot of americans against the system. For republicans, if youpg about, with the mitt romney kind of candidates weve put up. When we go out and try to talk
to these regular joes, as youre referring to them, these people that have fought the wars and have the economic consequences of our trade deals and everything else, trump actually does connect to them. And i think if you look at that fox poll this week . He had a bad week, ive said that. I agree with that. But if you look at that fox poll and look at how close it is, let me finish look at what the question was on the debate. She killed him. She the got over 60 , said they thought she won. Yet the race is still tight, which shows you, she can have a bad debate performance and still win this thing. One of the important thats hard to understand i just got to get a sentence out. Dont complain about the mike here. The mike might have been faulty. It was faulty. It is really remarkable given Donald Trumps flaws as a candidate that the race is and problems with his performance and her flaws, too. That the race is so close. And i contribute that to the unhappiness that chris is talking about. But this behavior does just not make sense. We have mike pence on next, i dont know the guy, hes the one who has to defend all this crap. He has no idea about these sex, lies, and videotape or whatever, hes not going to talk about it. So how does he or his component, the good guy, get tim kaine back on the issues for donald trump. You know how a Vice President ial debate is. The impact will probably be negligible. How many millions watching . 40 million . Half of what 40 million people. And i think theyre both sturdy, a little bit plain kind of presenters. And my guess is youll look for mike pence to connect to skr conservatives. Dont you wish he was running against evan bayh . Chris, you rightfully yearned for a policy debate. But donald trump isnt doing that. If you watch his convention speech, he puts out these peoples. Law and order, be tough. He wont tell us what his policy is regarding isis. Why because he cant put a paragraph together. He says he knows more about the generals and he doesnt. When joe mccarthy was going down, he drank too much, that was obvious, and killed himself with booze. People pointed out that he really didnt believe in any communist cause. If he believed in the cause he was fighting for so successfully and dramatically, he wouldnt have killed himself. He would have stucked to cause. But the minute he was censured, he quit. He gave up and drank himself to death. I look at trump, if he really cared about trade, really cared about illegal immigration, really cared about stupid wars, he would be talking about those relentless, like Bernie Sanders does. Bernie sanders doesnt change the topic. Bernie sticks to why hes running. But i think that the fault in your argument is that youre assuming that trump actually can control that. This is dablgs fngerous for a president. Weve heard donalds insults for years and his policies reflect his disregard for women. I mean, his latest twitter meltdown is unhinged, even for him. It proves yet again that he is temperamentally unfit to be president and commander in chief. terrible things to, thats just perfect. The fact that shes a woman, the fact that shes latina makes it even better. But this trap wouldnt have worked for you know, against donald trump, had donald trump not been donald trump. If hed had the wit to simply say, during the debate, when the name came up, ah, yes, i remember her fondly, im sorry if there was a misunderstanding, i wish her well. And thats a good point. And ended it right there, it would have been over. Thats what Hillary Clinton said about the email. I made a big mistake. You always want to know about a politician, not how he treats big shots, he wants to kiss up to, but is this the kind of guy who kisses up and kicks down. We meet them everywhere. nothing but dirt. And that kind of behavior gets to people. And like ron said, this is just putting another human face to that. You make a very good point, and shes been doing the same thing, for example, with the Little People and the contractors that hes stiffed over the years. Like her dad would have been. Miss machado was on the Clinton Campaigns radar basically since may and they had an entire media strategy coordinated around that. How did they find out that she existed . She did an interview with a news organization, and i think they had seen that. But in any event, shes been on their radar. They had all of this kind of set up, they had a web video ready to go before the debate . Before the debate even happened. And it was a question about Hillary Clintons stamina, the comments that donald trump had made about her stamina and she definitely turned that around into a commentary about donald trump and the way he treats all women. And then she put a face to it, like ron said. And that has been these have been some of the most successful moments, like with khizr khan. They gave him a prime speaking slot over at the convention,
just like theyre evaluating miss machado, after, you know, she had interviews, she had a media call with all of us, she had an instagram of her wrapped in an american flag. It was a very good production. But like ron says, with any good production, theres a credit space here. And you know, theres a lot of credit that goes to trump. Im not totally insensitive to what people talk about. People talk about hair loss, they talk about weight gaining. Look at all the ads, theyre erectile dysfunction, theyre basically human needs and human problems. We talk about with all the eating disorders we have, young men, young boy, people send their kids to camp to deal with it, people gain weight and deal with it. Heres trump putting her on camera, punishing her, which rhymes with what he said about abortion. There has to be some form of punishment. Why is his first reaction when somebody has a condition he doesnt like or look he doesnt like is punishment . Whyd you get pregnant . You have to be punished. I think its Donald Trumps instinct and impulse, which is punishment of the woman in this case. He said it, i didnt. And for donald trump to be criticizing somebody about her weight . Donald trump is not exactly jack lelane, you know . This sort of porky orange guy with weird hair. Hes criticizing peoples looks. But this goes to something, chris, thats been lingering around the periphery of this campaign ever since donald trump became a real factor. And thats, shall we call it, his state of mind. You know, were not psychiatrists, we cant diagnose this man, but let me say that were people and we judge peoples character all the time by what they do and what they say. And what donald trump and what he does and what he says, points to a real character issue for donald trump. And i mean that seriously. Theres something wrong with this man. Lets talk about gender here and not sex, but gender. Lets talk about heidi, lets talk about this. I think women are very aware of
men in public life, and how they think they look at women, right . Let me give you the example that i always kid about, alan alda. Alan al day to me was the insensitive man, treated people with equals, with great respect, didnt objectify them. Trump seems to be at the other end of that spectrum. I would end Hillary Clintons motorcade with a bunch of other women who happen to be mothers. We were discussing when this first happened, this will blow over in 24 hours, it didnt because of the i what trump responded. Then we got to learn a little bit more about Alicia Machado, and the thing that really hit me as a mother was that she had, at the time, anorexia and bulimia, and this is every mothers worst nightmare, is those magazines that you see at the end of a Grocery Store aisle, and the message is that those are sending to our daughters. And then a man like trump comes along and tells you youre fat. Thats the problem. I might ask you, ron, one problem. This has nothing to do with gender, it has to do with mind. You talked about trumps mind. Why cant he lose it . Just drop it . Just drop the this is a losing issue, we say in politics, you know the rule, when youre in a hole, stop digging. He doesnt seem to have that in his being. Because he always has to be right and he always has to win. Hes a narcissist, and any insult to his sense of ego and the wellbeing of his ego is seen as an existential threat. So, Alicia Machado, this, you know, this women who really is no big threat to him, he has to treat her like this deadly, deadly threat. He has to extinguish her. And i would look for Hillary Clinton to lay similar traps in the next debates, coming up. Its amazing when you hear her talk about sexism and these various claims that are ridiculous. Aside from obviously, bill, her husband, being maybe the worst thats ever lived. She didnt just stand by him, she attacked Monica Lewinsky. And after being married to bill clinton for 20 years, if you didnt know the moment Monica Lewinsky said that bill clinton violated her, that she was telling the truth, then youre too stupid to be president. It is illadvised to viciously attack women or anyone, for that matter. And thats why was look back at how Hillary Clinton treated those women during the 1990s and went to destroy them, Donald Trumps actions pale in comparison to Hillary Clintons actions. She literally was, you know, in charge of a war room, where they spent six figures on what they called the bimbo eruptions. What she did do was viciously

All that i remember hillary doing was calling, in a private email to her best friend, monica loony tunes. And by the way, every wifes instinct is to defend the husband. By the way, theyre throwing stuff out there that has not been demonstrated yet, right . Its never been demonstrated that hillarys out there squeezing peoples arms saying, dont talk. You know, its all possible. Its tough politics out there, as you say, in defense of your spouse, anythings possible. But theres no evidence of it and hes throwing the it out. Theyre throwing it out. Yeah, we actually, at the Washington Post, one of my colleagues published a very, very long article this week, trying to go through every known case of women who claimed two things, either that bill clinton went after them or that hillary, in some way abetted that or
attacked them, attacked their voracity afterwards. And while there are multiple unflattering examples of things that bill and Hillary Clinton did, there is absolutely no evidence that we were able to find in that story that she was part of some war room, that she was part of some concerted effort to destroy or hurt any woman who was involved. By the way, monica didnt come clear on that whole thing for a while. We had the grand jury, we went through that whole stuff. It was never her saying i had an affair with him and he was denying it. Its this thing that rudys talking about, rudy giuliani, that scene didnt occur. Not only did it not occur, chris, but who is this appealing to . Thats the bigger question. I dont understand who it appeals to. Because, you know, if youre older and remember going through the 1990s, your idea is already set about this. You either feel the way you feel about bill, feel the way you feel about hillary, and if youre a generationx or a millennial, this is a halloween mask now. Maybe its that tiny
philandering husband vote. By the way, its very hard. You have to be a if theres such a thing, you would have to be an incredibly skilled public figure to make the case that shes responsible for bills behavior. Its just i dont think its even conceivable. But if it took one guy who couldnt do it is donald trump. Well, right. I dont know how you make the case its her fault. She looked is very strong during all of that, in fact, had poise, and the reason why people respect her today, to a large extent, was how well she handled that. Her favorability went way up, for the first time, as first lady. For five days now donald trump has blown the opportunity to keep his extraordinary challenge to the political establishment on course.
