You do not know, what our middle terry leaders do in the pentagon every day . You think they are just about giving advice . The ignorance this guy . I have to bring in Claire Mccaskill here, general hurdle, a guy who knows what hes doing. General hurdling retweeting an interview that he had on fox news. Where tuberville said that the Navy Secretary has to get wokeness out of the navy because quote, we have got people doing on Aircraft Carriers. And general hurdling said what i wouldnt get for a real journalist to Say Something like what the f, are you talking about senator. Senator, you are on the air forces committee. You are on the committee in the house, it is not that hard to figure out what they are doing at the pentagon every day. And it has to do with protecting america from our enemies, and planning on keeping this country safe. And keeping our allies safe, and keeping freedom safe from tyranny. And also, i must say, from idiocy like that guy. I have to tell you the truth. When i came to washington, i was steeped in some negative feelings about the military because of the iraq war, that had gone on. And i had seen all the waist and all the stuff that had gone on their. With contractors. And so i got to see it on the Armed Services committee, and over the next year or two, my attitude about the military changed dramatically. Because i had a chance to see the leadership, and to understand what they did every day. It was an honor, and a privilege. And i am not saying that everybody in the military is perfect, or the military has not made mistakes. I beg them up very hard about the contracting practices, and money wasted. But for a man to sit in the United States senate, from the state of alabama, and talk about this kind of disregard of our military leadership. All you have to do is look at ukraine, and see how badly russia has performed. Helen righty they were, how logistics were a joke. And then he really will understand how good our military is. That would have never happened if the United States was trying to be on the ground in that country. I really am disgusted by this guy, and he is hurting our military. It used to be a disqualification in the Republican Party if you did not support the military. This guy is trying to dismantle our military, and it appears to me that he is not paying the political price for it, he dam wells it. It is despite the fact that the people of alabama really oppose this. Like in polls. They want tuberville to move on from , he has now stopped three services from having a later. The marines dont have a commandant for the first time in 150 years because of Tommy Tuberville. And, you know, alabama has always been. The people of alabama has always been strongly supportive of the United States military. And for a guy to go in there, and just, talk like a fool. Saying i do not know what they do at the pentagon all day. Well learn find out you are a United States senator. And going back to the jonah, goldberg piece again. The sky is a perfect example. Where jonah talks about how there is this stupid, lazy, assumption that everybody is corrupt, everybody is on the take, everybody is there for the wrong reason, and like claire i know political times at the pentagon. A knew generals that had one star that were focused on getting the second star and little else. And i have to say, 99 of the people who were there were good, honorable, americans who were there to serve their country. Even if it meant willing to go to war. Willing to sacrifice themselves, willing to sacrifice their lives, willing to be away from their family for months, years, at a time. And those are the people that Tommy Tuberville is hurting every single day. It is disgusting. And this is the end result, this is what we are seeing now of the rock that has been around for too long now. Which is anything that runs counter to what i want to happen. Anything that runs counter to what i believe, must be discredited. So now it could be apparently the United States military. It can be capitol police. It could be prosecutors, judges, it could be jerrys, it could be the constitution in the case of donald trump. But Mike Barnacle who joins us at the table, ill just get some numbers from the pentagon. Because of what senator tuberville is doing. There is 301 generals and admirals sitting and liberal right now. 80 33 stars, or four Star Nominees are pending. And as joe, said the three branches of the Military Service do not have leadership at this moment. So either way it is bad. If you really dont know, which i find hard to believe, what they do at the pentagon . That is real bad. But if you are cynically pretending what they do, you dont know, for some reason. To get rules change, to get abortion out of the military, thats worse. Weve had discussions, and most discussions around this table for months now, about the age issue. Having to do with mitch mcconnell, President Biden, and the aging of politics in our people who served in politics. We have very little discussion about the caliber of people who serve. Caliber. Like intellectual caliber. Like moral character, caliber. Like Tommy Tubervilles lack of character. His lack of intellect. Like ron johnson in wisconsin, his lack of intellect. His selfish approach to everything, im talking about both of these guys now. But tuberville is specific. And for him to say that he does not know much about what is going on in the pentagon. He doesnt have to go to the pentagon. Either write down across the bridge. Go to quantico. Look at the trading class of marine corps offices. He could go in his home state to any post in his home state. And look at the caliber of officers serving. And look at the sacrifice that they make. Im not talking about the selleck revise of Carrying Arms in the war. Im talking about the sacrifice of taking families from one pose to another. Year after year after year. And this year. The start of the school year right now and august for many of them. They do not know where they are going. Where they are serving. What the rank is gonna be. Whats the pay scale is gonna be. And what the promotion prospects are going to be. Shame on top of the tuberville. Shame on Tommy Tuberville and shame on republicans for letting this happen. Shame on republicans saying that they wish our troops were more like russian troops. This is personal, mika, of course because rather served in the United States army. Mika has a nephew who got out of college, couldve got a job anywhere. He decided he wanted to serve his country and he wanted to be in the marine corps. And he is busting his [bleep], he has gone through hell like all marines do. Like all marines to. He has sacrificed, why . Because he loves this country. Like all marines to. He wants to give his all to this countries. Thats why you become a marine. Im not sure what you become a football coach, i like football coaches. I love coaching football. It was one of the best jobs ive had. It is not being a marine, tommy. Its not being a marine. Its not being a member of the United States army, it isnt being a ranger. I, mean its just, i can go down the services and the sacrifice these men and women make. And you know, mike talks about it. Mike talks about the sacrifices that our soldiers and our sailors, and our marines, and our members of our airmen, members of the coast guard, that they make. I think it is disgusting what he said i also think it is discussing how little some of them get paid. That there are actual people serving this country that are on food stamps but they keep doing it because they want to serve america. And who the hell is Tommy Tuberville . To do this . Who the hell are these republicans who are allowing this to happen. And who the hell are the republicans that say that whether our troops, our marines, our soldiers, our sailors, our airmen, our members of the coast guard, who are these republicans to say that they are weak . Week . Why dont you go down to quantico. Why dont you try to do what a marine has to do to become a marine . Week . Why dont you go through Ranger School . Why dont you, week . Why dont, why dont you go out to coronado, see what it takes for one day to become a seal wake . No. Now. Theres a reason why the russians are scared to death of us. There is a reason why the chinese are scared to death of our military. Because they are the best in the world. They are stronger than they have ever been, relative to the rest of the world, since 1945, make a. And i have got to say that there is, as well he said, and going back to Jonah Goldberg as he said, there is a riot in america conservativism. There is a rock in the american party. And Tommy Tuberville is a perfect metaphor. A perfect example of that right. That they are allowing people who have children, who have families, who have sacrificed for years for their families to sacrifice for this country, who are in limbo because Tommy Tuberville wants to make a political point that even the good people of alabama are begging him to stop. It is disgusting. And he is also, if anything is weakening the military. It would be Tommy Tuberville. And on top of it. And republicans. Keeping women who are serving in the military, or who want to serve in the military. Thinking twice about it because of this abortion issue. Which is exactly what Tommy Tuberville is hinging this hold up on. And this issue is another reason that republicans find themselves on the losing side of everything. And they choose to lose more. Look at what they are doing to the countries. Look at the front page of the New York Times. Help for risky presidencies drop since doctors flee abortion limit. Theyre looking at one state, idaho, where doctors are leaving because of the strict abortion rules. Because they cannot give the care that women need to the women without getting arrested. So now, there are literally deserts in Maternity Care and owed bg why and care. In one state, and probably many others. This is one of many examples, and again thanks to the republicans, thanks to donald trump, and thanks to people like Tommy Tuberville, who want to take this issue and push it to the extreme. Again if anybody is making our military week it is tommy. It is Tommy Tuberville, and it is republicans who are saying that they are weak, and woke, and saying that the russians are better than we are. Which is again, that is unamerican. That is an american. Claire mccaskill, very quickly. Then we get past this. But i just want to go to you because i remember going over to the pentagon, or i remember where leaders were come over to do the Armed Services committee. And someone to bring up a social issue. And they would sit there, and they would be very polite. Issue and theythey deferential, becauu know, being deferential to civilian leadership. But they would say sir, or maam, could you please have your debate about social issues on the floor of congress . And keep the Armed Services committee about protecting and defending the United States of america. Please just please do that for us. And we always respect them. Because yeah they were right. Armed Services Committee isnt about abortion, it isnt about all these other issues. It is about protecting and defending the United States of america. And Tommy Tuberville is taking a social issue and he is literally, literally doing everything that he can to hurt the pentagon. The United States military. Because he is not getting his way. On an issue that has nothing to do with National Security. Lets say for a minute thats serving the military from missouri overseas, she is raped in a foreign country, and they sent her back to missouri. All the policy says is that she will begin a time off, and some travel, money if she wants to travel to another state to terminate the pregnancy from someone who raped her in a foreign country while she was serving in uniform. This is not an unreasonable policy, and i will say the most corrosive thing that these idiots are doing to our institutions, are they are taking institutions like the military, that is non political, nonpartisan, not steeped in cultural issues. The military, the fbi, our chris criminal justice system. They are trying to make longtime prosecutors, longtime fbi agents, longtime Military Serviceman. They are trying to turn them into political operatives. And they are using it for political purposes, in ways that is dishonest and really, really damaging. Up next, dont underestimate joe biden. With the advanced connectivity and intelligence of global secure networking from comcast business. Staff writer at the atlantic, its not just possible. Its happening. Frank ford, he is author of the new book titled the last politician, inside Joe Bidens White house and the struggle for americans future. Good morning, great to see you, good news on the book. A lot of people talking about, it people went out and read the book. And have opinions on it already. We were talking a minute ago about the issue of age, within that Wall Street Journal poll. Something the Wall Street Cannot Run from. Its not just republicans, its democrats, seven in ten say that they are worried about joe bidens age of 80 years old. Despite the fact that he is three years older than donald trump. How is the white house managing its . How seriously are they taking it . And has that changed the last few months or so . Of course it changes when we get closer to the election. And i think they couldve leaned into this much earlier. Because the story that i tell in my book, is of a president who is extremely experienced, who is dealing with these very difficult Foreign Policy changes. We are fighting a proxy war against a Major Nuclear power, our relationship with china has become incredibly tense. And we have to thread the needle on these things in the fact that he had served at the Senate Foreign committee for these years, that he was Vice President , that experience has been the thing that has allowed him to do something that is extremely difficult, and extremely consequential, but they have one away from the age issue and ignore the fact that anybody with eyes can see that joe biden is extremely old. One issue that they have leaned into, of, course is his leadership on the world stage. In your book has some revelations about how he has managed the war in ukraine, and tried to keep that aligns together, but also his relationship with ukrainian president zelenskyy. Tell us about it. It is a complicated relationship. It got off on the wrong foot. The first meeting that they had in the white house, there was the sense that zelenskyy, who is just getting into politics. He was a comedian, wasnt up to the job. Biden, who is this politician didnt really truly, respect zelenskyy at the first meeting. It was tense. And overtime it has actually remained a little bit of a difficult relationship. Thats when, on the eve of the war, the United States had russias war plans in technicolor. And they tried to persuade zelenskyy to take all sorts of defensive action. And those meetings were very difficult, because, whatever zelenskyy was doing in private to protect ukraine. He wasnt communicating to the United States, with the president and public. And so that relationship was tough overtime, it has become more mature. And now the United States military and the Ukrainian Military are integrated in a very profound sort of way. And one of the things that i think bidens political skills have allowed him to do is to overcome the fact that this world of ours, only a couple of years ago was basically indifference to global authoritarianism. And help to rally the alliance, has helped to get the aid moving through a crown grace in epic proportions. In and of itself it was not inevitable. Let me ask you, frank why has joe biden always been so estimated . You read about it in the book. I think we are seeing in some of these polls, he doesnt do well in polls, he does better, certainly we have seen it certainly in 2020 he does better when people actually get out and vote, but the family for 40, 60 years. Ive known him for 30. He has always been knocked, i mean go back to when he was on the Senate Judiciary committee, people would make him and say he was stupid, in 87 that disastrous campaign, he went off and got angry and said some really angry things because he thought that people were making fun of the fact that he did not go to a iv lake college. I remember sitting next to him after the New Hampshire results came in, and then he was Dead Man Walking politically, we did not, weve known him for a long time and talk to him and he is the easiest guy to talk to but we had nothing to say to him. It was a weird, five minutes. But he just kept going, you look at 2022, theres going to be a red wave. I remember when he first came in, progressives who are saying that biden was so stupid, hes so old, he actually thinks that he can strike deals with republicans . He struck deals with republicans in a way that no president this century has. I can answer this question with a confession, which is that i was one of those people in washington who would roll my eyes at joe biden, because of the way that he talked. It is because the stories go on forever and ever, i remember when i was 24 years old, and got my first call for joe biden, and even as i was excited to talk to a senator, in a reported call. About five minutes and i was like get this guy off the phone, hes never gonna end. But the thing is there is an element, you put your finger on it, there is an element of social class. And the way that bidens received. That in the obama white house, where you have these guys who went to ivy league schools, they would roll their eyes at biden for the way that he talked. Even though there was disrespect there for his mastery of certain sectors of policy, and i think that his Communication Skills are something that the media has always looked down, on and went on to underestimate joe biden, that is the chip on his shoulder, that is the thing that fueled him every time he seems that he is counted out, there is this persistence, obviously it connects to his personal story which is the tale about resilience. New york times reports that russia needs help acquiring military shells and missiles to use against ukraine. North korea once russia have advanced satellites and Nuclear Powered submarines. Also asking fors food aid from russia. The meeting between those two leaders expected to occur in russias far east, in the sidelines of the Eastern Economic forum set to begin next week. Lets bring in chief international correspondent, live in london. And president emeritus on the foreign relations. Richard haass. Good morning to you both, richard, what does that tell you that putin is meeting with kim jongun . Seeking artillery, and seeking missiles in exchange for food. What do you tell you about the war in ukraine . Ill tell you, the world says people like putin have various options. This is a world where you can get stuff from iran, from north korea, certain things from china. Much harder to sanction a country like russia, despite what they have done. What it tells you about the war . This is a grind. Both sides are consuming munitions. And equipment. And losing people at an unbelievable rate. And the idea that the russians have to go to north korea, and others, is not surprising. The war can keep going on for not just months, but even years. We are halfway through the second fighting season. We are three months into the counteroffensive. And the turn right of this war is high. So, this is not a run off. This is a pattern where this is repeated. And youve covered the russian side of this up close the. Reporting from moscow does appear anyway that putin is dug in. There is no concessions or talk of a police plan. There is none of that. So he is now turning to people like kim jongun and north korea to keep this thing moving forward . Yeah as richards important points. I think in the end President Putins plan is just to keep going. And as Richard Rightly says. In the munitions for that. I think one measure of how big a deal it is. This potential meeting between President Putin and kim jongun. Is how uncomfortable the kremlin sounds this morning. The spokesperson Dimitri Presque of refusing to confirm that President Putin plans to meet with the north korean leader. And discuss weapons. Saying that we have nothing to say on the topic. Today a spokesperson for the National Security council saying a little bit cryptically that kim jongun expects later level diplomatic engagement in russia. And we take that to me in this potential meeting. We actually reported from russias far east. The last time kim met putin. 2019. Can travel there by chain and thats how he will travel you would think because he is so anxious about his security. And that New York Times quotes officials saying that is what he plans to do. Again this month but it does come on the heels of the Defense Minister. Sergei shoigu visiting north korea. And again the National Security council saying that he is trying to convince pyongyang to sell off the missions just as they were saying. I will say one possibility this morning really is that the Biden Administration is making it known that it knows about this plan to have this meeting. In order to try to prevent the meaning from happening and to stop a deal from being done. But just to go to another one of riches points there about the world. I think it is also notable. And i think richard will have something to say about this. I think it is also notable that both President Putin and president xi has that they wont go to the g20. But President Putin will go to china and meet with president xi at a forum for his trillion dollar. One belt one road program. And i think what that frames. Apart from what we have ahead which is a very important few months of diplomacy with the general counsel. General assembly coming in the g20. That meeting between putin and xi. And also potentially not in any way a great apparently a meeting between President Biden and president xi. I think that all frames that russia and china is continuing to try to build some kind of a International Assembly that is separate from influence from the u. S. Richard if you look. Im just picking up on what he was saying about the g20 and the possibility of xi and putin that going to that. How does that play for the United States . Assuming that joe biden is fine and that doctor bidens covid does not spread to the president. Lets hope it can go to india. But is there a world in which actually. If america turns up to speak to the indians at the moment where india is such a key player in all of this. Actually not having the russians and the chinese there. Cut that play to americas strengths . Could it forge. Theyre gonna want this to be a success this meeting. So they want to come out with some kind of deal with somebody. And the americans are there in the russians in the chinese are not . Only up to a point. If indian Foreign Policy is anything it is the institutionalization of hedging. Of keeping your options open. The indians are so wildly dependent on russia for energy imports. Particularly cheap energy. Also for their arms. So i just do not see the indians supporting a document coming out of the g20 that is violently anti russian. What is interesting to me is that president xi is not going there. In the relationship between india and china. Which has always been a time filled with protection is potentially getting worse. I would it not be surprised if we see all the border skirmishes between the two. So to me the really interesting question was what is going on in china . Why is she jinping against the backdrop of a flailing autonomy . Why is he deciding not to go to the g20. Why is the Ministry Of Security saying that he may not even come to the United States and nato rubber . Why is china basically playing real hardball. As they are doing diplomacy as a favor to the rest of the world . And that is the ministry right now. That a lot of us are struggling with. And the Biden Administration did not anticipate that president xi and him will meet. They will meet in san francisco. Lets see if that changes. Some significant headlines out of kyiv, president zelenskyy has replaced the Defense Minister. Firing the current occupant. There has been some suggestion of corruption involved here. That is been an issue throughout this conflict, and predating the conflict. What is the latest that you can tell us about what is happening there . And as it comes during this pivotal counteroffensive . Which has gone very slowly, but seems to be showing a little bit of progress as of late. A little bit of progress, and it depends on how you frame it. And i guess in a way, you can argue that there has been a challenge in terms of managing expectations. But if ukraines hope is to get to , and basically cut off russias land supply lines. Particularly to crimea. At the moment its not a daily matter. You almost have to say, when we talk about this, that inevitably its the fog of war. So you just do not know. Maybe, it is possible, and as you would know. There has been some headlines in the past few days suggesting that this may be, ukraine has managed to make some progress, getting past those incredibly difficult russian minefields, and now its going to be able to push on more effectively. In terms of the removal of the Ukrainian Defense minister . Again, you can view that as an indication that president zelenskyy has not been happy with how things have been going. But there could be all kinds of other reasons. Reasons for why. It doesnt look. Does it. Like a very strong offensive if youre having to remove your Defense Minister in the middle of it. But you know you have to be careful to kind of play the Armchair Role rather than really for the understanding of what exactly is going on on the ground. And again at which point i think was a point at the beginning of all of this. That russia. People who will watch russia closely that i talked to no well folks in the Security Establishment in the kremlin. They have been advocates for russia. They are talking about months or maybe years of conflict at this point. Up next. One of the socalled Tennessee ThreeJust Announced a run for the u. S. Senate. She is a far left democrats, she is as woke as they come, and she knows all the liberal big wigs in tennessee. Frankly, my opponent is a direct threat to our way of life. I guess, we will start with a response to that. Tennessee state representative and candidate for u. S. Senate, Gloria Johnson, joins us now. Nice to have you on the show. Interesting response from Marsha Blackburn on your candidacy. What do you say that . Well, there wasnt anything factual in their. That is for sure. A lot of namecalling. It is quite remarkable, actually, when you come out and attack someone like that, its kind of like what i was talking about. The belief that we see in some of our elected officials. Just coming out on the attack. And making false claims. But i expected this. And this is why one of the reasons why they decided to run. Because tennesseeans deserve better than this. So what is it that tennesseeans are getting at this point . Especially. Im just looking at pictures of the whole situation with you and the Tennessee Three. When did you say you know what . Im gonna do this. Im going to run for senate. And what was the inspiration behind it . I thought about it for a little while. Thanking since the beginning of the year, probably. That as we moved in sutton and, and the Gun Violence Issue became so prominent. We had folks from republicans, independents, democrats, that cared deeply about ending gun violence in tennessee, we have a serious problem. Gun violence is the number one killer of our children, and that is a fact. And so, we have elected republicans who refused to do anything, rather than losing got laws, and we have these officials that are basically owned by the nra, and quite frankly, Marsha Blackburn is one of these folks. She gets millions from the nra, and has gotten millions. So we need people that are going to work for tennesseeans. And not for the special interests and lobbyists. Good morning, good to have you on the show. We had 20, 18th election, marshall blackburn. Her first senate run. She ran against a two term governor of tennessee. A popular mayor of nashville. And she won going away, she won by 11 points in that race. Some would argue that tennessee has gotten even more conservative since then. She has laughed her self to donald trump, also endorsing him for 2024. What makes you think that she is vulnerable this time in a way she wasnt six years ago . I think that what we are seeing. There is a movement in tennessee. There is no question, we are building a broad coalition. When that incident with the Tennessee Three happened, when they took away the First Amendment from members, from people in the gallery, from people in the rotunda . When they tried to silence people, not only was all of tennessee watching. But the nation was watching. They showed up, we young students, young people, parents with their kids on their shoulders, showed up to say that we want something done. And, and then nothing happened. They actually ended the session ten days to two weeks early. And accomplish nothing on gun violence, which is what people wanted to see. They promised a special session, but in the special session, they refused to talk about firearms. So we have got 80 , multiple polls. 80 of tennesseeans, regardless of party, want to see some action taken on gun violence. And they are doing absolutely nothing. [applause] the game ends. You didnt think that you are gonna get bill, and asi green, on morning joe this morning. There you go. The and then, game seven, of the 1988 nba finals. The lakers beat the pistons. This season featuring some of the greatest players of alltime. Of course celtics legend, larry bird, the Driving Force of the showtime lakers, magic johnson, the leader of the bad boy pistons, isaiah thomas, and of course the still unproven Chicago Bulls superstar, Michael Jordan, before he ever won a title. It was the subject of a new book titled, when the game was war. The nbas greatest season. Its author joins us now. Congratulations on the book, got to see you. Why do you say this was the nbas greatest season . There were the most future Hall Of Famers Playing at the same time. And it had the collection of dynasties. Thats the thing with me. All historic dynasties, various states of rise and fall. So you have the celtics, already old, you had the lakers who are at the top, you had the pistons who really where the best team that year, build no one seemed to notice, not even the pistons. And then you had the bowls. The way that i picture it, was this Game Of Thrones on the hard court. And the future, because i am really from chicago, i am a bull, fan the future is gonna be the bulls. They are, no one knows who yet. The bulls are like the king of dragons, of land, waiting for the years. Just to remember it, the knock on michael was a great oneonone player. Really fun to watch, but not a team guy. Didnt had what it takes to win a title. And larry bird, and thats because, he didnt have a title. When i was a kid, it was still Michael Jordan and the jordan airs. But at the beginning, i think that he had to take it on his shoulders. But one thing that interested me so much, was i was a history major in college. And i think with these teams, you can see how history operated. Because i hated the way that person played when i was a kid. Why they played so violently, because because they were built to beat the celtics. Who had the biggest frontline in basketball. Who had been built to beat the 76 years. And the bulls had to figure out how to be the pistons. And i would say, if you want to understand what the United States was like, when i was a kid. You have to understand the soviet union. And you if you want to understand the bulls, in the late 80s, you have to understand the detroit pistons. Thats, right the bulls had to go through them. Still five years until michael, sorry, three years until michael won the first title. I have to ask you a question. There is also a key moment for the league itself, with just a few years prior, had been really struggling. The bird and magic at the pinnacle, revise the nba, and is this the moment where with jordan on the horizon . It goes to the next level . Yeah, i think its like magic and bird, playing that ncaa championship, and i mean i remember being a kid watching it. Thats at another level. They took it right to the nba. But Michael Jordan i believe, was like a once, i believe hes the greatest athlete in American History. I grew up in that era, but amateur cockle guy. If you started earlier, he wouldve been a good Baseball Player to. Anything that he had done, he wouldve been good at. And i think that his charisma just really carried the league. And i know that when he retired that second time, i felt a let down. It was like elvis had left the building. So the idea that he had a struggle, and did not get to the championship for many years was good. Because it was like, as people in chicago, one thing that i dubbed about free agency as we watch that team come together like a band. And slowly figure out how to play together. And when they overcame the pistons, finally, it felt like overcoming a monster. Thats cartwright quote. We had to overcome a monster to get to the championship. And that does it for the first hour of morning joe weekend. We have more of the weeks top stories after the break ies after the break takes you off course. Former white house adviser Peter Navarro, an adviser to trump, convicted yesterday of Contempt Of Congress for ignoring a subpoena last year from the house january Six Committee. It took the jury just four hours to find navarro guilty on both counts that he faced for refusing to testify before the committee and refusing to turn over requests of documents. The trial lasted nearly two days. Navarros legal team did not present any Witness Testimony or evidence. Navarro had planned on noting a defense, claiming he was bound by executive privilege. He said that former President Trump told him not to cooperate with the committee, but the judge rejected that argument in a pretrial ruling last week. Sentencing is set for january 12th now. Navarro faces up to two years in prison. He has repeatedly called this A Landmark Case based on separation of powers. People like me, senior white house advisers, alter egos of the president , cannot be compelled, cannot be compelled to testify before congress. Absolute. Yet they brought the case. After the verdict, navarros attorney called for a mistrial, claiming the jury was exposed to protesters during a break and they return the guilty verdict shortly afterward. The judge would not rule on that right away, telling navarros lawyer to file a motion to be considered at a later time. So hugo, there are so many pieces of this Trump Spectacle that we have been witnessing. How important is Peter Navarro to all of it, number one, the green bay sweep. That is the play he designed try to get mike pence to sweep the election and not certify, it anyway. And how does it fit into the larger puzzle of everything spoiling around trump . You know, i think just as a aside, the fact of the january Six Committee even though it no longer exists, the fact that their Subpoena Authority is upheld is really significant, right . Elevating, yeah. Its more than a year since its all been litigated, and is finally being held to account for his willful default and not showing up for the subpoena. There is no widespread immunity to justify a congressional subpoena. And so i think at the fact that this did go to trial, and he was convicted by a jury and at about the same time it probably took to have a break is pretty significant. But it does fit into the wider set of things. The grand jury in d. C. Is still meeting, you know . Theyre still taking evidence from the federal january 6th case. The green bay sweep was this element in trumps efforts to overturn the election. That was possibly the most possibly covert, and the one most insane u. S. Because it calls and all these operatives from different angles. The fact that this is coming back out again its a good get as well. He faces real jail time. Hell be sentenced in january up to two years . I mean, benton was sentenced to jail. Hes out right now pending appeal, but this is like a really dumb crime. Really dumb if youre going to be convicted of a crime, like rob a bank, maybe get rich on the side. This is not showing up. Moving on to Fulton County now. The District Attorney fani willis is accusing one of Donald Trumps top allies in congress of trying to obstruct her case. In a scathing letter yesterday, the dea blasted House Judiciary Chairman jim jordan for his efforts to investigate her state probe. Following trumps indictment in georgia last month, the Ohio Republican asked willis to turn over all documents related to her case. Which jordan claims his politically motivated. In response, the dea wrote, in part yesterday, this. Your attempt to invoke Congressional Authority to intrude upon an interfere with an active criminal case in georgias fragrantly at odds with the constitution. Your letter makes clear that you lack a basic understanding of the law, its practice, and the ethical obligations of attorneys generally and prosecutors specifically. It is obvious purpose is to obstruct a Georgia Criminal proceeding into advance outrageous partisan misrepresentations. I tell people often, deal with reality or reality will deal with you. It is time that you deal with some basic realities. A Special Purpose Grand Jury made up of everyday citizens investigated for ten months and made recommendations to me. For more thorough understanding of georgias r. I. C. O. Statute, its application and similar laws in other states, i encourage you to read r. I. C. O. State by state. As a mom member of the bar, you can purchase a copy for 249. Ouch jordans office has not responded to a request for comment by nbc news. I think, i think she is a little fed up with him. Rightfully so, jim jordan. Most people are. So, j a great line there at e end, and certainly a proof that shes up for this fight. One more that is illegal and to be sure. And we know this is a sprawling case, theres real doubt as to whether or not trump piece of it anyway can come to trial before the election, whi i think a lot of people were concerned about, because that is the one when it would be on television. People can actually see it. But it also, this moment underscores the efforts by republicans to try to sabotage it. And we have had that from the beginning. This house gop in particular trying to play really Fast And Loose with the law and with their own authority to try to, whether it is defund the jack smiths investigation or now even put their fingers in to a state matter, that is dangerous stuff. It is a slow roll way to support this conspiracy that we are now finally seeing prosecuted. And that is what is so scary. What happened on january 6th did not just happen on that one day, and i think what you are seeing the congress right now from republicans who are really willing to throw democracy under the bus, and some of our institutions under the bus, as well as their colleagues and the American People if this is about power at all costs, and they are going to protect their number one guy who remains donald trump for whatever reason. Still cant let go. And i have to say that i think that donald trump and his acolytes, his advisers, his supporters have really taken advantage of the fact that this is so unprecedented in American History that i think there has been a sense that, well shirley arbitrations will stand. It does not take the rest of us to break these norms to stand up to them. But i think what you are starting to see, and you see this with the prosecution of the january six conspirators, the leaders this past week, you see it as well with navarros conviction, and now you are seeing this just with the d. A. Really putting out a very strong statement, which is that there needs to be pushed back. The pushback needs to be forceful. And i think that there needs to be a collective sense that we are fed up with this kind of behavior, and we are going to protect democracy. And you are seeing that, and that is really heartening. But it is still disturbing that jim jordan, who represents quite a block, lets say, is really willing to throw the democracy under the bus. It has to be said that its further heartening that even the republican governor of georgia, brian kemp last week said, were not doing the skies. Were talking about at the state level where theyre trying to get rid of fani willis, to impeach her. They said, thats not how this works, were not doing this here. Thats him, thats bread and all of them. And you are talking, youre reporting this morning hugo about donald trump in georgia trying to file the mark meadows playbook, which is to say that i want this case moved to Federal Court. What is the argument for that, and how would that change things for him . Yeah, you know, trump has been weighing whether to have his case removed from Federal Court in georgia. That way, he gets out of a potentially more adverse jewelry pull for him, and the cameras in the court, which he really does not want. But the Removal Issue is interesting because it kind of serves two purposes for him. One is basically he wants to follow mark meadows this line. He wants to use the argument that are successful. If meadows is successful, he does not want to do this himself. He wants to repurpose what other people are doing. But also it serves the delay. His overarching legal strategy. Thats the bottom line. Right, he has three times when the time was really meant to follow a motion to move to Federal Court. He is going to do that on the last day, no question about it. I was speaking to several people, and they are very brazen about this. And so i think he gets two major benefits. Coming up, senator Elizabeth Warren is standing by. Senator Elizabeth Warren who sits on the Armed Services committee about one republican senator holding up promotions for hundreds of military officers. But we started by asking if she is worried about the threat of a government shutdown. Take a listen. Look, of course i am concerned about a shutdown. The senate is doing its job. We are passing these pieces. We have the negotiated number. Remember back when the whole debt crisis came and everyone settled on a number, passing to law . That would be the budget . Senate has done its business and honored the deal. Over in the house, we have got a group of Extremist Republicans who arent just saying, lets delay, lets add some pieces, but who have actually said that they want to shut down the government. And the reason they want to shut down the government is they think that they can impose a lot of pain in the economy, a lot of pain in the American People, that that will help donald trump and other Extremist Republicans get reelected. Okay. I want to ask the senator about Tommy Tuberville, but you have more in . This no, senator warren, talk a little bit about what kind of pressure you can bring to bear on this radical contingent in the house in order to pass these bills, or to help pass these bills. Will there be any consequence for this . Will there be any consequence for this . You ask exactly the right question. Part of the pressure i think is the fact that the senate is actually doing its job. And we have worked against the Budget Numbers that were put into law. We are doing our part, and we are doing it by the way on a bipartisan basis. Nobody is getting everything that they wanted, but everybody is getting some of what they wanted. The house right now, the question that Kevin Mccarthy faces is, its going to let him full of truly radical Extremist Republicans who want to hurt the American People because they think that will be to their advantage, is he going to let them control, or is he just going to go ahead into a budget deal according to the laws that were already passed . The deal he already negotiated. And do it with most of the republicans and democrats to help him get it across the finish line. That is a question for Kevin Mccarthy. Senator, we want to get your response to senator Tommy Tuberville, who continues to brock the promotions of 301 military leaders. He said in the interview last night on fox news that his stance is gaining support within the Republican Party. Take a listen. Oh yeah, oh yeah. More and more it is kind of building. They are seeing the attack mode right now. All of the people who are coming out of the white house and speaking against me. And of course is a hard topic to get on top of, but we are pro life, and we should be. We are the republicans. There is a huge percentage of the people that they want to elevate to another star, possibly even to a four star. By the way, we already have 44. Thats way too many as it is. But there are a lot of them that, all they want to do is check boxes, talk about dei, everything is about equity. One thing about the military, it is not a equal opportunity employer. I dont care if brown says i want more black pilots. Well i am fine with that if they are the best. Theres no second place in more. We have to have the best. And right now, we are so woke in the military we are losing recruits right and left. Secretary del toro from the navy, he needs to get to building ships, he needs to get to recruiting, and he needs to get wokeness out of our navy. Weve had people doing poems on Aircraft Carriers over the loudspeaker. It is absolutely insane the direction that we are headed in our military. I dont know where to begin. Senator warren, im sure that you have a response to those comments, but im also curious, im sure you speak to some of your republican counterparts in the senate. You are friends with some of them. How can they allow this guy to continue with this. What is going on . All right, so lets start with the first part, and that is what senator tuberville is doing is undermining our National Security. This is what Secretary Of Defense says. This is what all of the Defense Experts say. And this is, in fact, im sure youve heard the story about the chinese diplomat who recently was laughing and making fun at his american counterpart because we cant even get our Military Promotions in line. I was recently over in nato. Im head of the personnel subcommittee of the senate Armed Services committee. I was talking with our folks who are on the front lines in the negotiations to help support ukraine and working with our nato allies. One of the things that they talked about is how senator tubervilles nine months so far hold on promotions means that there are places where we dont have the right person in the room or we dont have anyone in the room to be able to negotiate. And that is being replicated All Around The World. No head of the fifth fleet, no head of the seventh fleet, no head of cyber command. Soon to be no head of the joint chiefs. This undermines our National Security. Now for senator tuberville to turn around and try to attack the military as somehow it is okay to leave these places blank, i want to remind him, he voted for every one of these people in committee. If he had a problem with it, he had a opportunity to raise it. So he has voted yes on all 300 in one of these people, and now that it is becoming a little bit of a political hot seat for him to defend holding up their promotions for this long, now he goes on the attack after our military. That is not only dangerous, it is shameful. So the Elizabeth Warren, on that note, thank you very much for coming on the show this morning. Its always good to see you, its great to have you back. Have you been behind me this whole time . Yep. Lets bring in professor of International Politics at the Fletcher School of law and diplomacy, tufts university. Daniel dress lays the latest piece for Foreign Affairs is called bracing for trump two point oh, his possible return inspires fears in americas allies in hope and its rivals. And then i remembered in congress leading up to a president ial election, i think it up pretty quickly that stuff just didnt happen. Right now as far as International Diplomacy goes, or things frozen because joe biden says, as you talk about, america is back but everybody is going, allies are saying, wait, not so fast, lets see what happens the next 15 months . I think that that is frozen some areas of frozen policy. If you look at americas rivals like china and russia, i think it is clear that russia is not going to really want to engage in any negotiations on ukraine unless and until they know that donald trump is not going to be the president a year from now, because in their mind, that would be a significant break. It would mean a drying up of usa to ukraine. Who put russia in a much stronger bargaining position, and similarly, china i think is frustrated because the biden is taken a lot of the trump administrations tough on china rhetoric and actually implemented it and turned it into a reality. And they long for the years in which trump was managing to Fray Americas Alliances across the pacific rim. If they are going to dig in. On the other hand, i think a lot of americas allies are going to try to cement as much of the Biden Administrations Foreign Policy as they can. This is why you are seeing nascent signs of Eastern European countries in france trying to push for ukraine to join nato. If they join nato, that locks in something that makes that much harder for trump to reverse. But on the whole, you are right. Essentially what is going on is that all countries in the world have to plan on hedging because there is a possibility that donald trump might be the president on january 20th, 2025. Its so if i am a western country and i have sensitive intel that i want to get to the United States and i look back at donald trump, what he did in one of his first meetings in the white house, basically expose sources and methods of a ally to the Russian Foreign minister. I look at what he has done with intel when he left the white house. Do i really want to share that intel with the Biden Administration within a year of the time donald trump may be getting his hands on it and passing it on to whomever he wants to pass it along to . I think it depends on the nature of the intel. I mean, their forms of intelligence that require immediate tactical action, and so im presuming that groups like five eyes and other intelligence Cooperation Agreements are going to proceed without any concern about the next year. If donald trump wins in November 2024 though, yes, it would not surprise me if you started seeing our allies begin to recalibrate the amount of intelligence sharing theyre going to engage with with the United States, precisely for the concerns that you laid out. You know, found trump and intelligence secrecy do not go together very well, and so therefore, you would expect not just five eyes countries, but all of nato, all of specific rim. Ukraine, other allies and partners, to start climbing up. And of course President Biden is going to make the case for his vision at the Foreign Policy this week as he heads the g20 in india and then on to vietnam, assuming of course he does not test positive for covid, he still is in the window there. His wife, first lady, just did. Not talk to us now about how the middle east is viewing this. Theres been some speculation that the president is trying to broker it agreement with israel and saudi arabia and normalize relations there and pull them, pull saudi arabia at the very least from beijing. That is a pretty fraught piece from tom friedman this morning that once the president against an. How do you think that part of the world is watching the upcoming u. S. Election . The middle east one region where you can argue that there are traditional American Allies that might prefer the President Trump to President Biden. Trumps relationship with saudi arabia was reasonably strong. Trumps relationship with israel was pretty strong, although its worth noting that trump was extremely critical of Benjamin Netanyahu because netanyahu congratulated biden on his 2020 election victory, and of course trump continues to persist and its a little belief that he somehow won the 2020 election. But this is an area where i suspect, particularly at the Gulf Emirates are not going to be a verse to trump winning, but that is not going to stop them from any potential peace deal that the Biden Administration is profiting towards. In other words, what i dont think theyre going to do is put their Foreign Policy on hold to help donald trump. Saudi arabia is i was going to put saudi arabias interests first, and that is something that i think americans and both parties need to realize as soon as possible. Former President Donald Trump continues to dominate the republican primary field. We have been showing you the new polls all week. Despite four indictments against him and campaigning much less he has than his republican rivals. Joining us now former treasury official and money to Economic AnalysisSteve Rattner was some data behind trump seemingly unbreakable support. Steve, good morning. We will start with your first chart. Decades of ideological sorting may have brought us here. Yes, willie. I think one theory about why republicans are sticking so closely to trump is a kind of idea of tribalism, and the Wall Street Journal had an interesting analysis of this the other day. And so lets take a look at what has been happening among Party Members in the various parties over the last several decades, because this is actually a long run phenomenon. But if you go back to the late 1970s, you can see that only about 30 of republicans identify themselves as conservatives, and almost 20 of democrats identify themselves as conservative, and then if you fast forward over those decades, you can see what has happened and we all probably intuitively thought this is where we are now. Maybe we didnt think about where we are then, but you can see that about now about 60 of republicans call themselves conservative, and only about 5 of democrats call themselves conservatives. When you everything i just said its about liberals, i apologize. When you talk about conservatives, you see akin similar trend. You can see that back in the 1970s, less than 50 of republicans consider themselves conservatives, today, over 70 do, and the same thing, the reverse is happen with democrats. Almost 30 consider themselves survive back then, and today that number is down to just 10 . Thats what you can see that basically on an ideological basis, americans have kind of gone into their corners. Yeah, you know, another really surprising development. And we cant put this down to trump. It is something that i noticed even in my races back in the 1990s. Republicans were supposed to win well to do suburban sort of country club types, and democrats were supposed to win Working Class voters. I noticed in our cross tabs and looking at the districts after we won that i did it extremely well in the blue collar, in the blue collar areas. And what we are seeing now is a continuation of that and pretty dramatically now where republicans are still making gains among Working Class voters, but theyre losing an awful lot of suburban voters, and the breakdown seems to come, steve, more than race, more than income, more than anything on education. As far as what is the last year of their education. Are the high school grads, are they college grads, where they post grads. And boy, there is a real sorting there, isnt there . Yeah joe, we talked about ideological sorting, lets talk about educational sorting. And well talk a lot about how noncollege educated whites have moved towards trump. Theres a lot of truth to that, but theres actually a longer run phenomenon here. Lets start with whites with College Degrees, and you can see as you wouldve imagined back in 1990, 55 of whites with College Degrees identify themselves as republicans, and only about 40 of democrats identify themselves with College Degrees as democrats. Instead then you can see the percentage of people with college, whites who have College Degrees who identified as democrats goes up, and the percentage of republicans with College Degrees goes down. And so we have had this flip. And you can see here, it did happen a little bit faster during the trump period when whites with College Degrees moved more to democrats and away from republicans. And then you can see that, if you look at wise without College Degrees, the socalled Working Class whites that we talk about about, they were actually surprisingly even divided between the two parties until about six or seven or eight years ago, and then you started to have this shift that we all started talking so much about, where whites without College Degrees move into the Republican Party and out of the democratic party. And that really shows up in support for donald trump with almost every poll that we look at. And steve, as we move to your third chart and get to the personal, which is that somewhere along the way, our political leaders started to tell us that the other side wasnt just wrong, but that it was evil. But they were enemies, and that shows up here as well. So under the theory, one consequence is that people move into their corners, they move further away from each other and become more hostile to each other. And these numbers are actually really incredibly dramatic and actually incredibly depressing, when you think about it. So again, if you go back to the early 1990s, you can see that members of both parties, most of them did not view the other party unfavourably. Only a small percentage viewed the party unfavourably. 20 to 30 for democrats, about 10 for republicans, and then you can see this extraordinary, extraordinary climb appear to wear now between 50 and 60 of both parties view the other side extremely unfavourably, and so this is a lot of the hostility. And then if you look at some other kinds of questions, is the other party close minded . Is it dishonest . Is it an intelligent . If you look even at immoral, if you look at lazy you would find significant increases over this time period on both sides in terms of how they view the other party. And so this is part of why i think were in this period of unbelievable partisan hostility, and also why, as they move into the corners, each party tends to protect its own and, in this case, donald trump. Wn and, by the way, lets lot partisan animosity, and lets just go through the years there, steve, zoom in on those here. So if you look, 1994, democrats, the animosity doubles, nearly doubles. That is when gingrich and people like me came to congress. Thats the first time republicans controlled the House Of Representatives in 40 years. Look down a little bit in 98, but then you had impeachments picking up, you had george w. Bush, the iraq war in 2003, and it continues to spike up 2006. You had hurricane katrina. The Iraq War Multi bound and i continued. It goes down a little bit at the beginning of Barack Obamas turn, but then it just keeps going up. Yeah, you can see the obama impact right here, and then right here, you can see the trump years and a huge jump in animosity between the two parties. And so yeah, i think you have identified a lot of the key drivers over this over this period of time. And i just want to say, you look at the obama years and really those obama years from 2009 to 2000, early 2017, not really any more dramatic than the spikes that we see on, in fact, it goes down at some point in the late 90s. Then it starts going up, yeah, so it just seems like this steady climb for conservatives and their animosity. Of course the democrats spiking pretty high during the bush years. Yeah, look, its on both sides as you can see. The lines are very close, but again, as people have moved into their corners, they tend to be unbelievably hostile to the other side. And again, some of these personal qualities to call the other side close minded, dishonest, unintelligent, lazy, and moral, those are pretty strong words for a very substantial percentage of each party to think about the other side. The pope added that some american conservatives insisted on a narrow, outdated vision that fixated on social issues like abortion and sexuality, without focusing on caring for the poor and the environment. He made these remarks during a private meeting in lisbon last month. Lets bring in father james martin. Hes american Jesuit Priest and editor at large of the jesuit magazine america. He is the author of the new book which that they entitled, come forth, the promise of jesuss greatest miracle. I wanna talk about your book, but i want to tread a little lightly. Im going to try to little lightly as a Southern Baptist and evangelical. I have no problem talking about my church. I know where my church has been, i know where it is right now. Understand along the Christian Nationalism that is overtaken it. I have been very, very, well ive just been at a loss really about american catholicism. I went to a Pensacola Catholic High School and it seemed to be a different Catholic Church. I mean, at times i would make fun of how it was almost sort of, you know, everybody whipped out the acoustic guitars and did the kumbaya thing, but in some ways, it was a little too left of center for me at the time. But what i have seen, with a lot of my catholic friends, a lot of people i know the get go to Catholic Churches, just this radical shift to the far far right in the very things that they taught us about and catholic high school. Matthew 25. I mean the things that jesus talked about in the bible. Caring for the poor, being compassionate, being forgiving of others. All of the things i was taught. Now some time to talk to my catholic friends and all they want to talk about is abortion and gay marriage. Like this politicized view of the bible on two issues that jesus never talked about. Talk about the development at the Catholic Church. It is a lot, i dont get it, but then i promise we will talk about the book, which is incredibly important. Well thanks. It is a surprise to a lot of people. It is a surprise to pope francis, who was responding to a question that he was asked about that very, i would say, strong conservative, even reactionary part of the Catholic Church that really is opposing a lot of pope francis is way of proceeding. I think they were caught unaware by this pope whos very focused on the poor, on social justice, on mercy. And as you say, theres some catholics were more focused on particular issues, which are important, but which the pope is reminding us that there are other important issues as well. He is very much in matthew 25 person looking at how we treat the least of our brothers and sisters. Well i mean, if you look at the red letters, where jesus is what the pope is talking about is what jesus was talking about. Compassion, merci, caring for the poor. Lets talk about your book. Heres the thing that i have always wondered about lazarus, because you focus on jesus raising lazarus from the dead. Why lazarus . There are so many times that we pray for deliverance, for the people that we love, and we dont get that miracle, but we do get pieces around certain things. Why did jesus choose lazarus to perform this miracle on him . That is a great question. Lazarus is described in the gospels, the sisters of lazarus mark in mary states jesus, he whom you love is ill. Its a very lovely designation, and it says that jesus was good friends with lazarus and mark and mary, but the story really has universal appeal because in the book i talk about how the story reminds us that god really calls all of us to new life to kind of leave behind in the tomb as it were anything that keeps us from following got more closely. And so the story, while it is about lazarus in particular, is really about all of us. And so for people who read the story of lazarus, father, and they look for meaning for their own life or contemporary meaning, you point to the fact that its really a story about life. It begins with death, but its really a story about life. Yeah, and all of us have things to keep us down, keep us unfree, im free with addictions, bad patterns of behavior. But were really asked to god to let go of, to let die in the tomb as it were, and here god call us to new life. And so really, the stories about new life for all of us. Time magazine today is out with its inaugural time 100 a. I. , a new list highlighting the 100 most influential people in the field of artificial intelligence. Among those picked for the issue art tesla and ex ceo elon musk and former google Ceo Eric Schmidt as well as our next guest, the ceo of inflection a. I. , mustafa suleman. Is that with a new book entitled becoming, weight technology, how, or in the 21st centurys greatest dilemma. And lets start with that dilemma with an expert who really encapsulates the challenge here. It is in the books prologue and it says that with a. I. , we can create systems that are beyond our control and find ourselves at the mercy of algorithms that we dont understand. With biotechnology, we could manipulate the very Building Blocks of life. Potentially creating unintended consequences for both individuals and entire ecosystems. The fate of humanity hangs in the balance and the decisions we make in the coming years and decades will determine whether we rise to the challenge of these technologies or fall victim to their dangers. But in this moment of uncertainty, one thing is certain the age of advanced technology is upon us, and we must be ready to face its challenges head on. The prologue concludes like this. The above was written by a a. I. , the rest is not. Although it soon could be. This is what is coming. Is it too late . Its definitely not too late. Are you sure . Technologies have always made us richer and smarter, and over many many centuries, weve not vented things that have made us healthier, wealthier, and given millions of people the opportunity to move out of poverty and eat better, live better, get access to health care. That is the natural trajectory of technology that we are on. But every time that we have a new technology, there are risks. And this time is no different. We really have to contain those risks and make sure that, you know, these technologies are accountable to our democratically elected governments. That is the story im trying to write in the book. So a. I. Is such a catchall , mustafa, and i think its good to kind of zero in exactly what youre talking about here. Theyre saying the robots are coming in the going to take over, but it also means that it finds better direction to the bookstore on my phone. And so when you say a. I. , what excites you most in what worries me most . Some of the most exciting applications are actually in health care. I mean imagine having a perfect doctor that can read radiology scams extremely cheaply, instantly, and without access to the entire history of all past cases. Typically your best doctor may have only read 30,000 cases in their entire life, but the eye doctor will have seen millions of millions, and that allows it to be more accurate and ultimately more cheap, right . We can make it available to hundreds of millions of people, and that is the trajectory that we are on over the next decade. Everyone is going to get access to the very best health care, the very best tutor or educator. Everybody is going to get that in their pocket, and i think that that will make us radically richer, wealthier, and happier. So it seems as if the conversation about a. I. Has really picked up in the last year or two. I recognize obviously, people have been working on it maturely or than that, but it is the speed of that, right . Is not part of this. The unrelenting speed that is only going to accelerate, and that what makes people nervous. Why shouldnt it be . Thats exactly right. The upside is that these are progressing incredibly fast, which means that everybody is able to play with this technology, develop it, use it to build their own types of a. I. And new types of applications. The downside is that we also need our institutions and our Popular Culture to be able to adapt at the same speed. I mean this is clearly going to change who we are as a species and how we live and how we organize ourselves just as every past technology has changed what it means to be human. I mean, we now have aircraft that enable us to travel All Around The World within just a few hours. That has completely transformed globalism and nationalism and our sense of self, our connection to our families. And so we just have to make sure that things change at a pace that people can accept and that we can all accommodate. The new book is entitled, the coming wave, technology, power, and the 21st centurys greatest dilemma. Mustafa suleyman, they do so much for being on the show this morning, we appreciate it.
