Start with robert costa from the Washington Post, the paper that published the story. What did you learn in the story . We all learned a lot from this story. The Washington Post, high colleagues here in the newsroom, have been reporting on judge moore and his relationship with the people who are under age and also over 18, but alarms reporting, people going on the record, women going on the record about their experiences with judge moore when he was 32 years old, and a prominent lawyer in the community. One of the things that come the out here is that roy moore, this was all happening about 34 years ago. Roy moore has come out and said that he denies all the allegations. I guess in the process of the Washington Post, going to roy moore for comment that must be how he got this information to breitbart, which put out an article before the story came out . That is true. Breitbart actually said in their story that the Roy Moore Campaign through some person provided the information to the Washington Post had shared with the campaign looking for comment. Its also important to read in the Washington Post story that my colleagues went down to alabama. They met with these women. This was not opposition research. This was something the Washington Post found throughout the course of its reporting on this senate race. It has become a real challenge for the Republican Party today in washington. This is a closely watched race. Even though its in a ruby red state. And it is one of those races in which roy moore is ahead of his democratic contender. Some cases, low double digits, mostly high single digits, depending on what youre looking at. In other words, not a given roy moore would win this but he was ahead . Democrats have a question facing them right now. Do they pour more resources into Doug Jones Senate campaign ahead of the special election . Do more to see democrats come back in the south . And then the republicans have a question, too. They have to ask themselves, could there be a writein candidate to maybe step up in alabama, and counter moore, should moore kmochoose not to s aside. That writein candidate could be luther strange. He didnt answer a question when asked, whether hed consider doing that. He is certainly one of the senators asked. A dozen before me said this, if the allegations are true, he must step aside, almost as if theyre reading from the same script. What does this look like if roy moore does step aside . Theyre still figuring it out. Just on the phone to a longterm adviser to mitch mcconnell. And mcconnells political here in washington, reflects what a lot of republicans said today. Pedophiles, if the allegations are true, pedophiles dont have a place in the Republican Party and theyre trying to adjust the situation. John mccain, senator from arizona, has said moore should step down regardless if the allegations are true, because hes so deeply disturbed by the post reporting. Other republicans have the caveat, if true, theyd like to see him step aside. Nbc news political analyst at the Washington Post, thank you for your reporting on this, robert. Lawmakers and highprofile figures in the Republican Party have had very strong reactions to this so far. Theyre ripping this up, folks. Its tile. Im so happy theyre upsencht. Im going to that is the no the reactions theyve had. Across the board, reactions have been remarkably strong. Bring in Garrett Haake from capitol hill, gathering many of these reactions. Garrett, a lot of the republican senators are skipping right by the typical, well, lets wait to find out more. I havent read the article, seen the story. Theyve gone right to, if its true, roy moore needs to step aside . Reporter that caveat, what you just said, ali. If its true. The followup question were trying to get is what more information do they need . The Washington Post has four on the record interviews with these women including the one who has the most salacious accusations from back when she was 14 years old. The question is what more do you need to hear to get beyond there, if its true . John mccain so far being the only person ive seen to come right out and say, because of these allegations, he should go. John mccain seemed to be the one person to say i believe this woman. Its also striking, ali, over the last couple weeks weve been trying to ask republican senators about roy moore. Hes a very controversial figure. Right. Hes said things like homosexual access should be illegal. Second time he got kicked off the bench in alabama, was for refusing to enforce a Supreme Court decision about samesex marriage. He says keith elson shouldnt be in congress because hes a muslim. All of these things. When you ask republican senators last week, i dont have to agree, im going to support him. Disagreements in the family and thats good enough. This is apparently a line not good enough for republicans and youre seeing republicans get off the roy moore train, like the last person has to pick up the check. Getting as far from him as they k. It wouldnt have taken much for some republicans to get off the train. This was not the republican establishments choice. There is a sitting senator from alabama who was defeated in the primary. Luther strange. Big luther, as President Trump calls him. Roy moore didnt have a lot of friends on capitol hill to start with. Reporter no, but was getting more and here last week. Remember, meeting with senators. Yes, you talked to him. Reporter i tried to talk to him and he wouldnt answer questions about his past position. Up to five outspoken claimed official endorsements including john cornyn from texas, the number two senator republican. Thats about as establishment as you can get. Cornyn, by the way, is now one of those people, again, saying, if these allegations are true, moore should get out of the race. As early as an hour and a half ago, he was an on the record endorser of roy moore. More than a dozen republican senators, most you got for us, saying what theyre saying. What is roy Moores Campaign saying . Reporter roy Moores Campaign put out a lengthy statement trying to tie this entire article to sort of a Democratic LeftWing Smear Campaign against the former judge saying that hes endured most outlandish attacks of any candidate in history. Saying his democratic opponent is in a death spiral and this is a lastditch hail mary. The last part is objectively not true. Hes down about ten points not out of the running by any margin but calling this defamatory fake news. In that printed statement. Fighting back about as aggressively as they can without putting their man on camera to actually answer questions about any of this. And what happened . Whats the logistics of this . The National Republican senatorial kwcommittee, the sam memo. If true, he should step aside. The ballot is printed, i think sent out to early voters already . Reporter heres the key thing, ali. There is nothing that republicans can do to force roy moore off this ballot. Remember, this is a guy who the whole rap on his originally, somehow too embarrassing, too outside of a figure to represent republicans and then won the primary. This is someone who doesnt particularly care what Establishment Republicans think about him. Hell remain on the printed ballots, those mailed out on the absentee ballots. The question, i dont know the answer yet, calling trying to get reporting from the alabama election, about writein candidates and what else can be done to force someone else into the race. The fact of the matter, no one can pull roy moore all that ballot except roy moore. No kidding. Thanks very much. Garrett haake on capitol hill. Well keep you updated and revisit it about how they got the information they got and what they make of it. Breaking news on the trip that the president well, donald trump, when not president , took to moscow in 2013. After a business meeting before the Miss Universe pageant a russian participant offered to send five women to Donald Trumps hotel room. What the president s bodyguard, Keith Shiller, told congress this week according to three sources there for the interview. Joining me now is nbcs ken delanian, who helped break the story. Ken, tell us what youve heard . Reporter ali, the most important thing about this is that Keith Shiller testified he thought this offer was a joke. So he took it as a humorous offer and then he later discussed it with donald trump as they were walking back to trumps hotel room that night in moscow, ali. According to his testimony. And the reason he was asked about this, of course, is because theres this dossier out there written by a former British Intelligence officer alleged donald trump was covorting with prostitutes at this hotel on this trip and shiller is denying it saying it didnt happen. Heres he said what did happen. He testified that he basically watched donald trump go to bed that night. Stood in front of his hotel room for a time and eventually went to bed himself and democrats drilled down on the fact that he, of course, couldnt say what happened for the rest of the night. He wasnt there, but he answered, according to my sources, he didnt believe anything happened and that donald trump went to sleep alone, ali. Ken what do we think this has to do with the reports in the dossier . Could it be the same source of information that has been misconstrued or put into the dossier . Whats the connection . You know, thats a great question, and katy tur has been reporting that this story, this sort of alternate story harks been out there for a while. The idea that, no, what was alleged in the dossier didnt happen. Instead, Keith Shiller, an offer con sheaed to Donald Trumps longtime bodyguard of these women and he turned it down. Its unclear where its coming from but remarkable were even having this conversation. Really remarkable pap response from the trump camp on this . Reporter there has not. Shillers lawyers issued a statement decrying what they called selective leaking about this, but no response so far from the white house. Ken, thanks very much. Ken delanian, nbc news intelligence and National Security reporter. On capitol hill, the house ways and Means Committee finished marking their version of the tax cut bill as republicans forge ahead on their effort to overhaul the u. S. Tax code. Changes include keeping the adoption tax credit and final markings do not include a repeal of the obamacare mandate. The senate side, republicans are unveiling their own version of the tax cut plan but more than a few differences between these two dills. With all the changes happening on capitol hill i want to look into the tax rates and deductions that lawmakers are revi reviewing. To start, state and local Tax Deductions known at s. A. L. T. Causing debate. According to the finance Officers Association around 30 use this deduction, particularly suburbs in states like new york, new jersey, pennsylvania, hurt by the removal of his tax break. The senate does, house limits some of the deductions to 10,000 in property taxes. Secondly, medical expenses. Most people who benefit from this deduction make less than 100,000 and are older than 65. Not great for the middle class or the elderly, if you lose the ability to deduct medical expenses. Third, the estate tax. This is the tax you pay on inheritance, only have to pay the estate tax on that portion of what you inherit that is greater than 5. 5 million of your inheriting from one parent. 10. 1 million if youre inheriting it from two parents. This, Different Things they want to do with this in the house and the senate bill, but the only thing you have to know about this, anybody tell you this benefits the middle class, it absolutely doesnt. Trump may be a fan of getting rid of the estate tax, by the way, because his family stands to benefit in a huge way depending how much you think donald trump is worth. Heres the fourth one. The Corporate Tax rate. The trump gop plan would be to drop the Corporate Tax freight 35 statutory rate its at now to 20 its not what most companies pay. Effective rate, average companies pay, 18. 6 . If you dont get rid of a lot of deductions, 35 becomes 18. 6 , how low does 20 become . Talking with congressman davis of illinois. Thank you for being with us. Thanks for having me on, ali. What do you make of this . Two Different Things going on in two different bills. Paul ryan today said, not wrong, this is the way its supposed to work. House passes a bill. Senate pass as bill. Goes to conference. They try to come up with a compromise. Which bill are you in favor of . Im, of course, in favor of the house bill. A bill im going to get to cast 0 vote on. Doesnt mean the bill that was introduced earlier this week and marked up this week in the ways and Means Committee still isnt subject to changes. But the goal is, lets get it across the floor and just like the saturday morning cartoon show years ago, if we pass a bill, Senate Passes a bill, then we work out differences and get one to the president s desk thats really going to be great for the middle class and lower income families in this country. I dont know if great is the thing. Average, 1,082, but massive court tax cuts and massive estate taxes. If youre wealthy, great. Middle class, ah, okay. I disagree wholeheartedly, ali. As a matter of fact, if you ask many families living paycheck to paycheck in my district in central illinois, 1,200 is a big deal. A massive break to allow them to do the things they need to do for their families. We believe reducing deductions and loopholes many are criticized for every time we run a campaign, this is an opportunity to be competitive on the global scale and make sure to put more money in the pockets of families right in the middle class. Talk about trickle down economics. Both treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin and gary cohn, the president s adviser made comments. Do you still believe in trickledown economics . I do. We see the whole trickledown through the economy. Thats good for the economy. Years of learning that this isnt really true, and then recently in kansas, weve tried this. This concept. It doesnt really work. I talked to art laffer about it all the time. Do you really believe trickledown economics works anymore . What i believe is we is actually continue to make Economic Growth even more sustainable than what weve seen just recently in the last few months by making our tax code fair, flatter and simpler. Look, the middle class in this country need to put more money back into their pockets instead of sending it to washington, d. C. , and we close the loopholes incentivizes just answer the question. Lets not talk about this. We know the middle class gets 1,200 out of this thing. I dont i think many of my constituents will get more. We need to make our Business Environment more competitive on the global scale. Were in a much higher tax rating. As a matter of fact, look at some of my democratic colleagues who have hauled companies in before Senate Hearings just a few years ago to talk about companies wanting to use the tax code to invert where theyre going to be based. Were closing those loopholes. Why we should have bipartisan support. Many of the things we get rid of are some of the things democrats in the house and senate have been clamoring for get rid of for years. Now they want to protect them. I will say this to you weve seen it under the reagan administration, in the uk recently. When you lower tax rates on corporations, you dont see any corresponding wage increase in the United States. Thats the bottom line. Theres just no evidence of that actually happening. Tell you what happens. If your company, or wealthy in america and lose the estate tax and lose the amt, get the Corporate Tax rate reduced from 35 to 20 . Absolute gains. No question that happens if one of the bill passes, but if youre middle class you know you get an average 1,200 gain and everything is hope. You hope hope growth hits 3 , hope the Companies Take the savings in taxes and somehow build factories to employ more people and not outsource. If youre middle class in america, this is on a wish and prayer. If youre rich, this is a gift. I dont think so. Mask, y in fact, we must have a different idea what the country will do when we put more money in their pockets and allow them to invest more money in their businesses. Theyll buy more equipment, think manufacturing and congressman, theres no shortage of capital in this country for businesses. Interest rates are as low as ever. Money is everywhere to be had. Companies are not expanding, not because of shortage of capital on tax rates are too high. Companies expand when theres demand. You dont give the people the great la break, you give the companies the break. Companies have a lot of money. Look at the individual tax brackets put forth and we are focusing completely on the middle income and lower income families. Theyll be table to ensure their taxable interest continues to go down, meaning a fair tax code to allow them to put more money in their pockets and participate in their low economies. I believe companies in our main streams will continue to invest, grow in the communities to be able to help create the jobs wes know will be a part of this package once it passes. Put it on the screen. You wont see it. Tell what you it is. The reagan tax cuts when Corporate Tax rates went from 46 to 34 . Wedges fell five straight years by as much as 3,000 adjusting for inflation. No evidence tax cuts results in higher wages. Id be happy to study anything you give me that tells me otherwise. I feel youre working off talking points, sir. I appreciate that comment, but i will look at the bill that we produced. We think weve put together a much fairer, flatter, simpler tax today to help on the individual side and ensure we are globally competitive with our competitors across the globe, and this isnt just china and india. These are countries like canada and i hear you, sir, but i asked you a specific question pup say fairer flatter, i ask another question, you say fairer, flatter, or whatever youre saying. I just dont know what it means. Im giving you speck points of evidence on every point you make and you come back and fayer, flatter what are you saying . Fairer, flatter and simpler. Okay. What the American People demand of us. You want me to address the reagan tax cuts . Address anything you want. Reagan tax cuts, do uk tax cuts. Address why trickledown economics didnt work in kansas. Given you so many to specific answer and you keep saying fairer, flatter simpler. Where do i take this discussion with you . I dont know what to do anymore. When we talk about the reagan tax cuts i can tell you another reason why weve got to address the 70,000 page tax code. I was 16 when the last tax reform package passed. I had a lot longer hair and a bad mustache and driving around the square in my hometown. Weve got to do something to address a tax code that incentivizes companies to invest overseas, and thats exactly what were doing here. Right. Call it trickledown economics. I call it tax reality, exactly why were and the United States called it trickledown economics this morning. Not making this up. He said it at the Economic Club of new york. Thats what im saying. I guess thats where the disconnect is. I hear what youre saying and get what you want to do. Thats not what the administration seems to be going for. They think the trickledown you have to go, i appreciate you taking time to duh talk to me. Well continue this another time. Thank you. Congressman rodney davis from the 13th district in illinois. President trump is dialing back his fierce criticism of chinas onesided trade relationship, in his words, with the United States. Listen to what he said at a business event in front of chinese president xi jinping. I dont blame china. [ applause ] after all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens . All right. Donald trump saying that in in china last night. A far cry from what he used to say when he was on the Election Campaign accusing china of raping the American Economy and saying that it was entirely onesided. Chris jansing joins me now, covering this for us. Chris, why the turnaround . Reporter well, if you want to listen to the secretary of state, because he was asked about it, he said, it might have been tongue in cheek, suggesting that the point he was trying to make is that this isnt just about president xi. This is something that happened in previous administrations, that his predecessor, previous american administrations, have allowed this trade deficit to grow. It not unusual for a president to say one thing on the campaign trail to moderate his tone once he actually becomes president or eveningen moderate his tone when he comes to a foreign country, but this has been a dramatic shift in the way that he talks about it. Tillerson also tried to say that the president was a lot tougher behind the scenes. That he made his views well known to president xi. Having said that, at least the way the chinese press, the state media is putting it, they believe this has been a victory for the president , president xi. The reason we are hearing from tillerson and not the president himself, because that might have been the question that got asked, is that, again, in a break from the usual, the president did not have questions and answers here. When they had their joint statements, usually we have a twotwo, a couple questions for each leader from members of the press from the host country and from the United States. We know that president xi was questioned when he came to the United States and in the past, for example, in the Obama Administration, they insisted that the press be allowed as a show for their support for free and open press. Something, of course, under this authoritarian regime they do not have here. We didnt have a chance to ask the president that question. He is leaving here within just a few hours. No big deliverables on trade. No big deliverables on north korea and still a question hanging in the air, ali, whether or not he will indeed when he gets to vietnam meet with Vladimir Putin. Keep an eye out for that. Thanks, Chris Jansing in beijing. Its been nearly two months since Hurricane Maria tore through puerto rico and an estimated 3,000 people still living in shelters. Fema is now taking more action with plans to airlift survivors in the island to the United States mainland. They are expected to go to florida or new york. According to fema, right now 92 of the island has cell service. 83 drinking water. When it comes to power, only 41 of the island has it. For more, the fema coordinating officer joins us. Thank you for being with us. My pleasure. Tell me about this program. Whats the intent and how does it work . Never done before. Its been done before. The temporary shelter assista e assistance, tsa. And kind of the last option we use to provide a safe place for people, and be its targeted at people currently in congregate shelters, group shelters, that are still here on the island. Talk to me about where these people are expected to go . What happens . Do they go into temporary housing or there to go wherever they end up going . Well, where were seeing it, we have hotels that sign up for the program to accept these families, and actually we have about 38 families taking advantage of that right here on the island right now. But were also just preparing just in case that if we need to have people go to the continental United States, you know, were making a Program Available there, and, in fact, we have families that have left on their own that are taking advantage of it right now. What are the amenities that the Program Provides . Obviously, theyre getting, taken up by you guy, the air travel. But what exists for them either in new york or florida . Well, the first of all, the program, you know, is only one piece of a whole Housing Support program that we have. Weve already been giving out over 100 million in Financial Assistance to help people rebuild homes. A program to directly rebuild their homes, provide support through the commonwealth. We also allow them, will provide rent many assistance. End of the day, having them take advantage of a hotel room is usually one that is a lost resort for these folks. If they do choose to travel and go to new york or florida, the two states designated as host states, the states are actually, they stepped up and just really in a compassionate way have offered to help provide voluntary agencies and Wraparound Services for these folks. Good to talk to you. Thank you so much for being with us. Michael burn, fema coordinating officer in puerto rico. And passed the house tax bill out of committee along party lines by a vote of 2416. More on that shocking report from the Washington Post which alleges roy moore pursued sexual relationships with teenage girls in his early 30s. Breitbart news became aware of the article prior to its publication and posted the story before the Washington Post story even went online. We should note moore denied the report saying in part, judge roy moore his campaign said, in part, judge roy moore endured the most outlandish attacks on any candidate in the modern political arena. But this story in todays Washington Post alleging sexual impropriety takes the cake. This garbage is the very definition of fake news and garbage. Joined by the Senior Editor at Breitbart News. Thank you for being with us. Good to be with you. Before the Washington Post article went up you published a rebuttal. I dont know how you can have more facts than the Washington Post who interviewed 30 people for this article but youre willing to run with the idea it cant be true that judge roy moore didnt have improper sexual contact with a 14yearold 34 years ago . Well, i dont think thats what our story says. But i think question all agree that anybody who commits Sexual Misconduct in the workplace has no business running for public office. Right. Whats about a dozen so far, even more, republican senators said. Nothing in your breitbart article says that . Nothing . That says, what listen, i cant hear you too well. I dont know what you said we didnt put in. To answer your first question, i dont think weve said anything about that suggesting we condone that. I would point out whats interesting in the Washington Post article is that they say teenagers, in fact, you repeated that start of this segment. Yep. If you read the article, there are several cases mentioned, and of those cases only one would have been legally problematic. All of the others are of legal relationships with women who were of age at a time when roy moore was single. So what they there, a neat trick. Made this story about a kind of pattern youre supposed to imagine whereas as far as we know so far, theres only one allegation that people ought to be concerned about. Hold on a second. Fair enough. Let me finish. Let me finish. Ive got the facts. Got the facts on this, joel. Let me is you this. End of your article, my specific point to you. Not litigating roy moore. Let me turn up the volume to hear you. Fair enough. End of your article on roy moore you do this thing about the Washington Post, post owned by a Holding Company for billionaire amazon founder and jeff bezos, newspaper formally endorsed doug jones in the senate race. In a series of articles Breitbart News documented jones Close Association with far left groups financed by georgeorge s. And an accusation about the Washington Post meant to have readers say, this cant be true . If you read the Washington Post article, they stuff all kinds of things into that piece about accusations against roy that have nothing to do with this story. Their piece is structured like a political hit piece. I dont see why the Washington Post is allowed to do that in an article thats supposed to focus on facts, that people who write further stories about this situation would not do the same thing and point out the motivations of the other side. Is it a possibility this is true, joel, why do you want to be on the wrong side of this . Just report it as fact, but it out there and say were awaiting more information, awaiting a comment from roy moores people. Awaiting more. Roy moores people sent you guys there, the fact they were asked for a response, and you immediately ran with that as a defense for roy moore. El wewell, if this story is and i think any story of Sexual Misconduct especially with someone under age is very serious. Why would the Washington Post wrap it with legitimate relationships with all kinds of political clutter . I think the reason people questioning accuracy of the piece, they packaged with all sorts of other stuff that has nothing to do with the question. Well see where this goes and theres a lot of drilling down that needs to be done. Good media criticism. Thats valid. I have read this several times. This piece, if you think the Washington Post piece is a, a hatchet job, yours feels like a defense of roy moore. Well, you said yourself at the start of the segment hes being accused of relationships with teenagers. To me thats not accurate. In fact, its following in a narrative that post tried to set up t. Is teenagers. A 14yearold, 16yearold and i think two 18yearolds. Teenager. 16 and 18yearold have no business in that story because those of women are legal age of consent. The article is talking about teenagers. Maybe they shouldnt write about teenagers but the point, its not inaccurate. My point, the post successfully put out a narrative on msnbc and other places theres a pattern of teenagers. As far as we know, facts could be different, theres only one relationship alleged problematic. One too many for some people. Yes. Definitely one too many. If that turns out true, hes got Serious Problems and we need to drill downed and find out what that is. Im pointing out the Washington Post and allegation about maul multiple people, its curious they do that. When i have the goods on anybody, i dont clutter it with other things, try to season it with innuendo. You go for what youve got, because if what youve got is good, provable, solid enough that should be enough. Right . Curious. Well see where it goes. We all agree Sexual Misconduct in the workplace is wrong, and i saw you had a quote from john mccain on in the show earlier. He was accused of Sexual Misconduct in the workplace now saying the mere accusation should cause roy to withdraw. But when he was accuseds in 2008 having inappropriate relationships with lobbyists, he pushed back hard, threatened all xinlds of things and didnt drop out because of an accusation. Finds russian acts on twitter worked to deflect negative news about donald trump just before voters headed to the polls and worked to refocus criticism on Hillary Clintons campaign and the media. A Technology Writer from the Associated Press helped write this story. Ryan good to see you. Thanks for being with us. Tell me about the tweets you looked at. How you were able to determine that they were russian linked . Well, these are tweets that twitter itself identified as coming from russias Internet Research agency. They handed over a list of 2,700 to congressional investigators, house Symbol Committee made that list public and we were able to match that against an archive of tweets that we obtained. You noted that the russian trolls had a strategy of react, distort and distract. Is there any sense how theyre organized . Is it somewhere central where that message is put out . How is this done . Yeah. I mean, the Internet Research agency has been well reported on at the troll farm in russia. You know, twitter identified these as coming from there. We did see some patterns in the tweets that we saw. There are multiple retweets of the same sort of message that we saw. You know, and so, you know, these counts followed each other to some extent is something were still working through in the database and still looking to find those patterns, to be honest, but hoping to keep reporting on this. What impact will this have on what congress is likely to do in the hearings theyre holding with the Tech Companies . Does this sort of play into that . Yeah. We dont know the full extent of what was revealed to these congressional investigators. We know what we have but not a lot has come out. And some of the facebook pages, for example. The content of that was was not fully shared with the public. There was some scrubbing going on to, you know, remove personally identifiable information of you know, americans interacting with those pages. So i think as the investigators look furtherer into this were going to start finding out more. Ryan, thanks for joining me. Appreciate it. Media Technology Reporter at the Associated Press. President trump has repeatedly slammed the american Justice System calling it a joke, suggesting it isnt fair. Hes also gone after his own attorney general calling him beleaguered and very weak. All the while the department of justice is quietly and effectively laid the groundwork to fulfill the president s Controversial Campaign promises. Nbc news justice correspondent Pete Williams explains. Reporter few places show the effect of the trump election more than americas southern border. Illegal border entries are down about 40 from what they were a year ago. The result of stepped up enforcement and tougher rhetoric. No one has pushed harder for stricter controls on immigration than attorney general Jeff Sessions. Hes cracking down on sanctuary cities. Those that fail to give the government 48 hours notice before Illegal Immigrants are released once they serve their jail sentences so they can be deported. They should be removed from those communities. It will make them safer. I dont think you have any objection overall from the immigrant community to remove dangerous criminals from america. Reporter and he has ordered federal prosecutors to pursue felony charges against immigrants who repeatedly try to enter the u. S. Illegally. The Justice Department has ener jetically defended President Trumps orders restricting travel from mostly muslim countries, though pared back by the courts, they nonetheless reduce travel by immigrants and refugees. Reversing an Obama Administration policy sessions has ordered prosecutors to seek the maximum penalties in drug cases, even involving lowlevel offenders. You are a drug trafficker, we are not going to look the other way. And be willfully blind to your misconduct. Reporter eric holder who was Barack Obamas attorney general says thats a mistake. I think we run the risk of igniting another drug war that will fill our jails but not necessarily make our streets safer. Reporter in another reversal, sessions restored a Government Program that makes surplus military equipment available to local police. It was cut back under obama after the Justice Department concluded two years ago that militarystyle equipment contributed to the unrest in ferguson, missouri, after police shot an unarmed black man. On civil rights, sessions withdraw an obama declaration which said federal law barred the nations schools from refusing to allow students to use bathrooms matching their gender identity. Though President Trump has publicly criticized the attorney general for taking himself out of the russia investigation, no cabinet member has been more loyal to the president or more determined to carry out his agenda. Pete Williams Joins me now. Just picking up on that last point you made in your story. Whats next for sessions. Were a year into this government. What happens next . The next thing we see that will probably be a change from trump Obama Administration policies is a nupolicy directive prosecuting marijuana cases. Jeff sessions, since his time in the senate, has taken a hard line view. He doesnt see any possible good thing that can come from using marijuana. And the question is, will he change the policy set up by the Obama Administration that basically said the federal government would keep its hands off in states where marijuana is legal and step in and do federal cases only if it involved gangs or crossborder to other states or children.
