You have an announcement youd like to make. I am running for president of the United States. Im very excited about it. When i look at this moment in time, i know that the American People deserve to have somebody who is going to fight for them, who is going to see them, who will hear them, who will care about them, who will be concerned about their experience, and put them in front of selfinterest. Senator harris made that announcement on abc and twitter at the same time this morning. Harris adding her name to the handful of announced candidates, or those who have formed exploratory committees for 2020. Theres a look at the list. The list could get a whole lot longer. About 25 democrats are said to be considering a bid for the democratic nomination. Lets bring in msnbc political analyst, director of progressive programming at sirius xm. Also, msnbc contributor, former director of communications for Hillary Clintons campaign. Jonathan, Washington Post opinion writer, also msnbc contributor. And nbc news political reporter, alex, live in columbia, South Carolina, where two other potential 2020 democrats are speaking at an event happening there at the dome. Well get to you, alex, in a moment. Senator harris officially launching this weekend in oakland, were told. Any surprise she makes the announcement today . No. I think it corresponds perfectly with doing it on Martin Luther king day and starting your campaign, focusing on issues like Law Enforcement and justice and criminal justice reform. Certainly, shes going to pull upon her experience as a prosecutor. I think it is really exciting on a day like today to have more women who are officially announced running for president than men, for the first time in american history. Today is a moment that is going to go in the history books. It is certainly exciting to see three senators who have a credible shot at winning the democratic nomination. Jonathan, you interviewed senator harris earlier this month. What stands out about her to you, and is she the front runner right now . I do think she is the front runner. What stood out, first, the interview i did with her was about her book. Throughout that book, for all these little vignettes that made it clear to me that she was running, including a vignette about her father that appears on page 5, where her father says to her when shes in a park, run, kamala, run as fast as you can. The end of her book, she asks the question, well, she says, you know, were at this point in our countrys history where our children are going to look us in the eye and ask us not just how it felt but what did you do . Clearly, her response is, as we saw today, that she is running. Shes running full on. Her Law Enforcement background, she takes some clear positions in the book. I think the campaign will be about adding some more specifics into a lot of thosie issues she brings up. Yes, i think, right now, she is the front runner. Primari primarily, one, she was the San Francisco attorney, california attorney, now the junior senator from california, but shes running in a party where the foundation of the democrat iic party is africanamerican women. That alone, coupled with her experience, make her the front runner. Weve seen a rash of announcements here in the first month of 2019. Were expecting some more over the next few weeks. Whats the advantage to getting in so early . Well, several advantages, craig. Number one, you can raise a lot of money. You can have a strong first fundraising quarter, which is very important, especially in a large primary like were about to see. On the Democratic Party side. Secondly, i think jonathan touched on this, it is very smart that she went full on in. She didnt announce an explo exploratory committee. She went full on in to a campaign. She has her campaign that will be based in baltimore with an office in oakland. Its smart. It is hard this day and age, i think, to run a campaign from the west coast. Shes built a really strong team. I worked with quite a few of her colleague s on Hillary Clinton campaign. She has a strong apparatus. Also, africanamerican women have carried a lot of candidates over the finish line in some of these special elections. Shes got a very strong case to put forward, and i do agree with jonathan, that right now, id could want her as the front runner in the primary. Alex, you are in the capital there, columbia, South Carolina. Some call it gods country, but well call it columbia. Two other potential candidates, 2020 candidates, have converged on the palmetto state for the annual king day at the dome events there in the capital. Senators cory booker and Bernie Sanders, as well. This is video of them this morning. They have not declared. Do you get a sense that there is some sort of announcement that might be coming from either one of them any time soon . Reporter well, i dont know about any time soon, but as the speaker on the stage here just said, the road to the white house runs through South Carolina. Crucially, one of the early states to vote in the primary, crucially with the first state to have a majority africanamerican vote. Not surprising youre seeing candidates coming here from mlk day. Elizabeth warren and Kiersten Gillibrand will be here later this week. They marched through a church where Martin Luther king was supposed to speak, but he stayed in memphis where, of course, he was killed. They marched here to speak at the dome, where the Confederate Flag was recently removed. Cory booker coming in as one of the two potential africanamerican candidates. Bernie sanders only got 26 of the vote last time. Some of his allies were frustrated he didnt talk about his personal experience with the civil rights mooufegt ghts move. May be changing this time. Look what he told us this morning. Dr. King is a hero of mine. I had the honor when i was a College Student of being at the march on washington, hearing his i have a dream speech. No better place to be celebrating his holiday than right here in columbia. Reporter Bernie Cleary trying to address one of his biggest weaknesses from 2016. Out of the gate in 2019, hoping to do a little better with africanamericans. Alex, while he was speaking, you probably saw congressman clyburn on the left side of your screen. Hes taken the stage at the king day at the dome event. Jonathan, arguably the most popular democrat in the 2020 field, joe biden. He, of course, has not declared yet. He did speak at the National Network action breakfast honoring dr. King. This is part of what mr. Biden said. Weve learned the last few ye years, it doesnt take much to awaken hate, bring the folks out from under the rocks. That part of American Society has always been there, will always be there, but has been legitimized. We have to speak out. We have to challenge these forces of hate. Jonathan, what happens if joe biden does decide to run . Do you get a sense that he is going to . Well, if Vice President biden gets into the race, itll be very, very competitive. I think the front runner status i gave to senator harris might be in jeopardy. But as we have seen with Vice President biden, he is always popular until he gets into the race, then it becomes very real. His standing falls. I think one of the reasons why people so seemingly so desperately want him to get into the race is, you saw it a bit in the clip right there that you showed, his willingness to go right in there and talk about what makes people so fearful and so angry about the direction the country is going in and the actions of this administration, how a lot of the people hes talking to in that room at the National Action network, and who hear him across the country, he is voicing their frustration, their anger, and their pain. I think within the Democratic Party, theyre looking for someone who not only, possibly, can go toetotoe with donald trump, but who can talk to the country about what theyre feeling and what they want, and the changes that they need. Vice President Biden can do that. To your question about whether i think he will do it, im on the fence. Part of me really thinks that as much as he wants to do it, he probably will decide not to. The president of the United States does not have an event on his schedule today to honor dr. King, his life or his legacy. Last year, perhaps you might recall, the president was at maralago. He did post this on twitter though. President trump using twitter today. We celebrate dr. King for standing up for the selfevident truth americans hold so dear, that no matter what the color of our skin or the place of our birth, we are all created equal by god. Mlk day. Why would the president not schedule an event . Why would he not go to a soup kitchen . Nothing. Nothing. All day. On the public schedule. Again, it is 11 10. He could decide at the last minute to do something. Should we take anything from that . Yes. It is an alignment with the president s policies and, perhaps, what he feels in his heart. If he is not compelled to come out and honor the legacy of dr. Martin luther king, then that should tell us a lot in and of itself, craig. I think the president , his rhetoric about people of color, his policies toward people of color, do not align with somebody who is going to come out and commemorate the legacy of somebody who really did believe that all men were created equal. I would say that the president does not treat people with all skin colors as if they were created equal. Maybe his tweet is just a challenge to himself, that perhaps he should try to do that. Thank you. A big thanks to all our panel. Adrien adrienne, alex, jonathan. Changing the story, Rudy Giuliani was supposed to be using his sunday morning platform to clear things up for the president , but he just made things more complicated, again. Also, the art of the deal. How the longest shutdown in u. S. History is crumbling the president s image as the ultimate dealmaker. And confrontation. Massive outrage over that viral video from the foot of the Lincoln Memorial. How the student is now defending himself. Ill also talk to the organizer of that march and get his side of the story. Best of all, its a free service. There is never any cost to you. This just in. President trump, Vice President mike pence there, they are walking towards the mlk memorial there in washington, d. C. This is a live look. Again, just happening a few moments ago. We just got word that the president was headed there. This is, again, live. Nothing had been on the president s public schedule and, literally, two minutes ago, word that the president was, in fact, on his way to pay his respects at the mlk memorial there in washington, d. C. President trump, Vice President pence, you can see placing a wreath there at the memorial. We do not know if any words are going to be spoken. Again, didnt get much of a heads up here. Didnt get much notice, but President Trump, Vice President pence. The president had been roundly criticized for not planning anything to honor dr. Kings legacy. After spending last year at maralago can we listen in . Are you going to talk about the shutdown at all . When is the last time you spoke with House Speaker pelosi . All right. There you have it. He was in. He was out. President trump, Vice President pence there, again, paying some respects. The president said something there, geoff bennett. I couldnt make out precisely what he said. Could you, geoff . Could you hear what he said . Reporter i couldnt quite make out what he said to the press, craig. I can tell you, we did not expect to see President Trump at all today. The white house put out a schedule last night that said President Trump, today, would have no Public Events scheduled. As you mentioned, the president caught a lot of criticism for not effectively doing anything on this day, this king day of service. The white house clearly saw fit to rectify that, by having the president and the Vice President go to the king memorial here in washington, for just a brief trip. We should also mention that Vice President mike pence himself also begginned up controversy yesterday from dr. Kings i have a dream speech to try to persuade democrats to support the border wall. That fits a pattern of politicians exploiting dr. Kings life, his message, to fit a political end. Really, to make a lot less of his sort of complicated, radical approach to the divide, the racial divide in america, to make him seem more like a moderate when, in fact, thats not at all what he was. Again, we see the Vice President and the president today, stopping by the king memorial to, in their way, honor dr. King on this day. Geoff bennett from 1600 pennsylvania avenue. You were halfway out the door. I was almost on the elevator, craig. Again, we just got word the president decided, apparently, i guess, somewhat at the last minute, to make this surprise visit to mlks memorial in washington. Surprised at all . It was as if he was talking to our conversation. I think it is a good thing. I agree it is a good thing to at least go through the motions. I think their job is always going to be what they say and do. It is not just enough to go through the motions and make it a public photoop, to say, okay, were going to honor the legacy of dr. King. What are you actually doing in terms of policy to uphold his legacy . And talking about or quoting him to justify really a racist border wall is not doing that. Thank you. Let us go now back to South Carolina. Congressman jim clyburn, the majori majori majority majority whip. Well get to the event in a moment, congressman. First of all, does your reaction, President Trump, Vice President pence, making the lastminute surprise to the king memorial in washington, d. C. A few moments ago . I think it is a great thing for them to do. It is a great symbol of our hope, recognition of who and what king was all about. I would hope that they would read some of the inscriptions that are found at that statue. One of which was found in his letter. In justice, anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere. I want the president and Vice President to understand, it is an injustice for us to have little children snatched away from their parents at our southern border. It is an injustice for us to have almost a million federal workers out of work while we argue about whats best to do in order to carry out our immigration policies in this country. Those people ought to be at work. It is an injustice for us to be having a tax cut for the rich, while the poor go without health care. These injustices are the things that king fought against. As they go to the memorial, i would hope they rededicate themselves to what king said to us back in 1966, i think it was, when he said that he found that of all the injustices that exist in our society, the inequality in health care was the most inhumane and unjust. So i would hope that the president and the Vice President would not just go visit and show symbolism, but to incorporate in the policies they are emitted from the great white house, to everybody in the United States of america, and let his freedoms ring down like water and justice like a flowing stream. Congressman, that event where you are, its still happening right now. We saubw Bernie Sanders earlier. Cory booker there, reportedly, as well. South carolina, an early primary state, first in the south. Whats been the reception for senators booker and Bernie Sanders, as well . Yes. I just spoke with senators booker and sanders. Just referred to them from the podium. Theyre here because we believe it is a tremendous opportunity for anyone whether want who wa president of the United States to come and really get a good feel for what i call full, distinct cultures that exist in this small state. If youre in South Carolina, you get a good feel of what manufacturing economy is all about. If youre here, youll get a good idea of what an agriculture economy is all about. Here is where we have fort jackson, the air force base, mcguire and National Guard station. You get a good feel for what military life is all about. Here, the seat of government here in columbia, the university of South Carolina, charleston, medical university of usc, medical school, we have everything you want, if you want to find out how to go forth in this great country and make your message available to everybody. Congressman, really quickly, perhaps you heard, senator Kamala Harris, she made the announcement this morning. Shes in the race, as well. Who are you endorsing early on . Well, im not going to be endorsine ining anybody. I made the promise to the national party, they allow South Carolina to be one of the states in the socalled preprimary window, i would not take sides in that primary. I want everybody to come. Kamala is going to be a good candidate. She is going to be here in two weeks. Kiersten gillibrand is going to be here in another week or so. I think that Elizabeth Warren is going to be here on wednesday. So were going to welcome all of these candidates. Were going to show them around the state. Were going to introduce them to anybody they want to meet. We will not be making any official endorsements prior to the primary. Congressman jim clyburn, always good to see you, my friend. Thank you for your time. Please give my regards to the girls and emily, as well. Thank you so much. I appreciate that. Youre so kind. President trumps tv lawyer complicated his own 2020 path in two big ways. Rudy giuliani admits the president worked on a business deal with russia without the 2016 election. He also appeared to breathe life into the embattled buzzfeed story about what trump told his former fixer and lawyer, Michael Cohen, before cohen lied to congress during testimony. Danny cevallos is an msnbc legal analyst who joins me now. Danny, lets start with what giuliani told chuck todd on meet the press yesterday on how long trump was working on a trump tower deal in moscow. It is our understanding that they went on throughout 2016, werent a lot of them, but there were conversations. Cant be sure of the exact date. Probably up to, could be up to as far as october november. Our answers cover until the election. Any time during that period, they could have talked about it. The president s recollection of it is that the thing had peted out quite a bit. Legally or politically damaging, danny . Rudy, stop talking. You had such a win with the special counsels statement. He could have declared victory. He could have spiked the football. For once, he was saying something consistent with what the special counsels office was saying. He could have moved with that. Instead, he added to it. It is always risky for a defense attorney to make statements to the public. Number one, youre never 100 certain the story given to you by your client is accurate. Number two, in this case, its going against the special counsels office 90 of the time. For the first time, he is aligned with what the special counsels office is saying. Namely, that a damaging story is inaccurate. Theres no need to add any more information to make problems for you or for your client. Lets move on to what you just eluded to there. This is, of course, the Buzzfeed Cohen story. I want to play this is take a listen to what giuliani said sunday. Seemed to dance around what was or wasnt said. If he had any discussions with him, theyd be about the version of the events that Michael Cohen gave then, which they all believe was true. But you just acknowledged that it is possible that President Trump talked to Michael Cohen about his which would be perfectly normal. Of course you acknowledged trump might have talked with him about his testimony. So what if he talked to him about it. Lets just summarize again here. Giuliani said that if they did talk, it was about the version of events they both believe is true. Danny, when you hear that, and you hear what buzzfeed says, that theyve reconfirmed their reporting, but muellers office of the report is not accurate, where does this leave us . Rudy knows what he said isnt accurate. Number one, he is a former, decorated u. S. Attorney. Number two, because Paul Manafort gotexactly the same th. One thing a defendant cannot do is pick up the phone and call an old buddy, who may testify against him, and say, hey, this is the way it went down, right . You remember that. Thats a form of witness tampering. Thats a form of improper influence of a witness. Paul manafort learned that because the government charged him with doing exactly that. So we have to give rudy the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he meant that it was perfectly abnormal for clients to talk to folks who may be testifying about them or against them, about their proposed testimony, whether it is before congress or before a grand jury. It is not normal to do that, and criminal Defense Attorneys advise their clients, do not go talk to potential witnesses, whatever you do. Danny cevallos, good to have yourperspective, sir. He built his image as a master negotiator. What happens when President Trump cant close a deal to reopen the government . Reopen th . Im a veteran and the army taught me a lot about commitment. Which i apply to my life and my work. At comcast were commited to delivering the best experience possible, by being on time everytime. And if we are ever late, well give you a automatic twenty dollar credit. My name is antonio and im a technician at comcast. Were working to make things simple, easy and awesome. President trump trying to resurrect his image as a dealmaker in chief. A senate vote on his latest offer to end the shutdown is expected as early as tomorrow. Prognosis for passage, not good. Based on reaction from his speech, it may not fair better than the last two, for the man who said, i alone can fix it. As a candidate for president , i promise i would fix this crisis, and i intend to keep that promise. What the president proposed yesterday, increasing border security, looking at tps, lo looking at the dreamers, ill use that as a starting point, but youve got to start by opening the government. It represents progress, not perfection, but progress. The Vice President and president know that what the president announced yesterday was not going to go anywhere. It wasnt intended to. It was a, i think, effort to prop up the president s sagging poll numbers. Eugene robinson is a colu columnist for the Washington Post. And sir Michael Singleton is a republican consultant who worked on campaigns for mitt romney and dr. Ben carson. Mr. Robinson, first of all, before we get to that, i want to go back to the image we just saw, not far from where you are in washington. President trump and Vice President pence visiting the mlk memorial. He was there for roughly two minutes. You saw that and thought what, eugene . Well, you know, i share congressman jim clyburns hope, that something rubs off. You know, an administration whose policies are can often only be described as cruelty for crueltys sake, keeping 800,000 workers, federal workers, out of work without pay. Sometimes having to work without pay for no reason, gratuitously. Separating parents from children for no reason. It is unimaginable that anyone could say that those sorts of things are in dr. Kings tradition. So one only has to hope that only can hope that something of that monument, something of that legacy, rubs off and that they actually think about what dr. King said, what dr. King stood for, what dr. King means to the country. Thats my initial thought. Im glad they went, and i hope it does some good. Sir michael, people are clearly hurting. 31 days into this shutdown. Take a listen. Mortgage probably will be late. My husband still goes to work and still doesnt have money for gas every day. Your husband is a federal worker. Sister is a federal worker. They both have to go to work every day, though theyre not getting paid. Gas, food. I mean, its a lot. Its a lot for a lot of people. That continues to get lost in this story, i think. Over the weekend, was it a sincere effort to negotiate, as the Vice President claimed, or was it, as Adam Shichiff suggested, an attempt to shift blame to the democrats and prop up the administration . I think folks are playing politics, and thats what i dislike the most about this. I completely understand the president s position politically speaking, though i do not agree with it. I dont think politics should ever trump our humanity for people. Its not just folks who are quote, unquote, democrats who are being impacted by this. Many folks who voted for the president himself are also impacted by this. I believe it is around 14,000 federal workers in virginia, and contractors, impacted by this. A significant percentage of those folks voted for President Trump. You know, as we think about dr. King today on this particular day, we think about compassion and empathy, selflessness, then you think about this government shutdown, you think about the president s position, it is very, very difficult, even though he did visit the king memorial only minutes ago, to expect that he gained anything from it. I have no hope or expectation that he did gain much from it. Im reminded of a quote written by adam smith in the theory of moral sentiments. He wrote, he can have no immediate experience of what other men feel, or the manner in which they are affected, but by conceiving how we ourselves should feel in a like situation. Donald trump never had to live paycheck to paycheck, craig. From his vantage point, he cant relate to the folks who are suffering as a result of his decision and lack of leadership as president of this country. Eugene, the president appears to have negotiated himself into a bit of a corner here. Yeah. How does he get out . How does the shutdown end . Well, you know, if i knew, i would surely tell you, craig. I have no idea how this ends. I really dont. He, from the beginning he started by negotiating himself into a corner. There was a deal. He went back on the deal to fund the government through february 8th. Meanwhile, talk about border security. He was getting in that original deal everything that his administration had asked for, 1. 6 billion for border secur y security, but ann coulter and Rush Limbaugh made it stink, and he got scared and said, i have to have my 5. 7 billion. Its not going to happen. Congress is not going to give him 5. 7 billion. Republicans didnt want to do it, though they might be more inclined to do it now. Democrats, no way theyre going to do it. What is left . He doesnt want to back down. It is unclear that democrats can back down. The bases in both parties are urging steadfastness. The president is beginning goin to move, somehow declare victory, and let the government reopen. He doesnt seem to be redid to do that yet. I wish we had more time, gentlemen. Thank you. Mr. Robinson, always good to have you. Always good to be here. The theme continues throughout the show. Robinson, South Carolina man. Thank you. Thank you. C. , which includes missing and murdered indigenous women, which includes deconstructing racism in this country, and today on Martin Luther kings memorial, we remember that this country is founded upon very harsh concepts and precepts, such as slavery, genocide, and racism. We need to be truthful about what that means in this century. What we perceived was a very tense situation, and our elder, nathan philips, did what he thought he could offer, and stand in a peaceful and prayerful way, and try to diffuse that situation. Were thankful that it was diffused. Now, every side of the story is trying to spin it toward their favor. I would just suggest that you review the entire video, so you can decide for yourself. Chase, am i correct in hearing you, those teenagers there wearing the make America Great again hats, they did nothing wrong . They said nothing wrong . Is that your contention . No. All you have to do is watch the video. Youll see them doing whats known as the tomahawk chock. This racism and the place that native americans occupy in the american imagination, we are contemplated as perpetual slaves. This is the doctrine of discovery, the foundation of our treaty relationship. So when we see and we have a president who continuously and repeatedly uses native american women as a slur, using pocahontas, makes light of our aga genocide at wounded knee. We have a racially charged environment with a president who is giving license to this behavior. When kids show up being very loud, disruptive, and doing this, it is on video, making the fake war hoop we all know how to make, when we say, whoa, whoa, whoa. You know it. We know what were talking about. We know what we saw. It doesnt matter how people spin it. Our elder felt threatened there. Chase he felt there was an apprehension of a legitimate and objective threat of harm or violence or offensive contact. Chase iron eyes, thank you for clearing some things up for us, sir. I appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Well be right back. Thank you for having me well be right back. Your brain changes as you get older. Americans all over this country participating in events and Community Service to celebrate dr. Kings legacy including one here in new york city where the Fourth Annual mlk now event kicks off this afternoon in harlem. I am joined now by john david washington, one of the stars of bla blackkklansman, thank you for coming in. Thank you, sir. Why did you choose to get involved in mlk now . Being an alumni of Morehouse College i was very much inspired by what this man did and what he spoke and its sort of lived on, his legacy has lived on in the auc, and an opportunity artistically to contribute to the message to further the inclusion conversation. I jumped at it and obviously, ryan coogler being at the helm of it was just a great opportunity for me to participate. Dr. King would have been 90 years old this year. Wow. What, specifically, in his message do you think is relevant today, the times in which we find ourselves . You know, content of character, not color, you know . I think again, this continue to speak inclusion and community and evolving of self and spirituality and philosophies. I just really feel that he was all about bringing people together and finding a common language of coexistence. In one of your recent role it is in blackkklansman. You are in the kkk, and in your eyes what role does the Entertainment Industry play in how we approach the National Conversation on race . Well, i think many roles. I think we can inspire people that are living this every day, the harsh realities every day that were portraying on film to maybe be inspired to change it. To have an opportunity to look at themselves in the mirror through this entertainment or a way to escape some of the harsh realities and to just enjoy themselves two hours at a time or whatever program theyre watching, but hopefully we can inspire somebody that can actually do something about changing our communities. The film has received a great deal of critical acclaim, enjoyed box office success. Its gotten a lot of attention here around awards season. What do you think it is, john david b this particular film that resonated with so many people . I think, you know, theres a lot of harsh language in this film. I think there are a lot of trigger words that are used and we are seeing how generational these words are and were seeing how they seem to stand the test of time. The fact, if we can find a way to change the narrative and to change these words and start using these words that can bring us all together and find Common Ground and coexisting with each other, then i think were on to something. Dr. Kings life and legacy, of course, being remembered on this day. How do you think we are doing as a country, as a society with regards to honoring dr. Kings life . How are we doing . Like, keeping score, i guess . I im not sure. It seems like days like today people are showing up and recognizing and there are hash tags all over the place so thats good, but i think what happens tomorrow and the next day and the next day after that to continue this has to be a daily thing, a daily practice of peace and harmony, i guess. Its too early to tell who is up on the scoreboard right now. What else are you working on . Whats coming next . Will work for food right now, man. Im looking for stuff. Dont my next gig is later on today. Do not lie. John david washington is not looking for work. Its a fantastic film. Wean the Oscar Nominations are coming. We certainly hope that the film and you guys get the recognition that you so justly deserve. Thank you, sir. Please tell your folks hello. Im not making that same mistake twice. Ill make sure i tell my mom you said hello. Please do. John david washington, a class act and an actor to watch for sure. Thank you. Folks, today is not just supposed to be a day off from work or school. It is the day again, that we honor the life and legacy of dr. Martin luther king jr. , from montgomery to selma to the march on washington, we are reminded of the sacrifices that have been made by not just dr. King, but thousands, tens of thousands of americans in the name of civil rights. To be clear, much has been accomplished in those 50plus years, but there is still so much that needs to be done to guarantee equal treatment for people of color in this country. Just a few days ago, just a few feet from where dr. King delivered the historic i have a dream speech at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, was there a group of young, white teenagers seemingly harassing an elderly native american celebrating his heritage and another group that stood by that looked like me they were apparently shouting things at that group. We have a long way to go. A black teenager on his High School Hockey team being mocked by the opposing team. A long way to go. A black man entering his Apartment Building being confronted and interrogated by a white neighbor. We have a long way to go. There are so many reasons for hope though. Just sworn in, the most Diverse Group of freshman members of congress in this countrys history. The first africanamerican representative from massachusetts and from connecticut. The first palestinianamerican, the first native american elected to congress. On this holiday, we reflect, we remember that dream and remain hopeful that one day eventually it becomes reality. That is going to wrap up this hour of msnbc live. I will see you tomorrow morning on today, but right now, Andrea Mitchell reports. Right now on Andrea Mitchell reports. Staredown, the president offering temporary dreamer protection for a permanent wall and Mitch Mcconnell planning a senate vote as early as tomorrow. Is this the beginning of Something Real . The president puts this on the table. I think there is a lot there that we can work with, but he ought to listen to the things weve got to say. Woman power. California governor Kamala Harris joining a Record Number of Democratic Women running for president. The American Public wants a fighter and they want someone that will fight like heck for them. And tone deaf. The president and Vice President visit the king memorial today after mike pence was criticized for tying the legacy of dr. Martin luther kinr
