Theres also the drudge report which had the headline youre fired. Youre fired the president in it. Lets bring in msnbc contributor yamiche alcindor, White House Correspondent for pbs news hour. Last night we got what the day was like for joe biden. Whats the next three months going to be like for joe biden . Yeah, very difficult work of preparing to govern and ultimately governing begins very soon with the work of it Transition Team. The Biden Transition Team has been working quietly over the last few months. Really as early as march im told by sources involved in the transition to get ready with this. And joe biden one of his most trusted aides who was his chief of staff in the senate who actually wrote the law governing transitions has been working behind the scenes to get ready for it. We saw tonight an effort to kick that off. The speech we saw from the former Vice President tonight it was both the cap stone of the campaign. He talked about the margin of victory, the Record Number of votes he received. But he also began an effort to govern, to take the very difficult work of something he promised throughout the campaign, trying to unite the country and set the tone for that. I want to play a part of his remarks in which he was clearly reaching out to the opposition. Take a listen. Ill work as hard for those who didnt vote for me as those who did. Let this grim era of demonization in america begin to end here and now. The refusal of democrats and republicans to cooperate with one another is not some Mysterious Force beyond our control. Its a decision, a choice we make. And if we can decide not to cooperate then we can decide to cooperate. We also heard in his speech tonight biden announcing he was going to create his own Coronavirus Task force to be ready on january 20th to begin implementing his plan for tackling the pandemic. But we also know a lot of what the president elect is going to be able to do, hes going to be able to do by executive order, and executive orders hes been talking about throughout the campaign to take immediate action especially on issues like immigration that dont require legislation but that he can do immediately just by the signature of a pen. Stay with us for a moment. I want to cross over to philadelphia. Weve been talking so much about the symbolism of what it meant for philadelphia and certainly pennsylvania to be the state that pushed joe biden over the Electoral College threshold. How is that manifesting itself on the streets of philadelphia this evening . Are people there aware of the moment of history theyve delivered to this country . They are. And things are quieter right now. But all day this area was just filled with people. It started kind of as a slow build within minutes of nbc news calling the race for joe biden and pennsylvania for joe biden. I walked outside and i saw a woman on the sidewalk just on the other side of this building here calling someone saying joe biden won then all along the streets, all along the sidewalks you started to see people stopping, cheering. Then you started hearing car horns and then more cheering and more horns. Then within minutes this entire area seemed to just fill with hundreds of people coming out to celebrate joe bidens skrivicto. All of them very aware of the fact the philadelphia suburbs and this state played an incredibly Important Role in getting him to become the president elect. I saw one woman who was standing and holding a sign that just said thank you from a grateful and hopeful immigrant. So i went over to her and we talked to her about what this moment meant and other people came by, too, wanting to talk to us as well. Listen here. And im hoping to become a part of this country, and the last four years have been like im just so grateful. Thank you. Thank you, everyone. Im just happy hes gone. I want him out the white house tonight. The last four years have been hell. Theyve been hell with him in office. Theyve been hell. And i dont appreciate him. I dont like him. Hes prejudiced and all that. Reporter so things right now they are quiet, a little bit of trash leftover from the huge crowds that were here. But there was a great sense of relief, excitement, jubilation in philadelphia for much of the afternoon, all of the evening. So yamiche, lets talk about the white house and lets talk about what is i guess on the agenda not in the coming months but when joe biden gets into office as the president elect and then becomes president. Im going to read you this from the washington post. Its the planning of the executive order trump policies as much as donald trump tried to reverse obama policies. He will rejoin the paris climate accords according to those close to his campaign and commitments hes made in recent months and repeal the ban on immigration for many muslim majority countries, and he will reinstate the program allowing dreamers who were brought to the United States illegally as children to remain in the country according to people familiar with his plans. Given that joe biden is making it clear or it seems like the team is making it clear that they want to reinstate a lot of what they did in the obamaBiden Administration, what is your expectation from your reporting about how the president is going to use these three months . Well, the president right now is in complete denial so hes going to use this time to fume, to spread disinformation, to try to convince the millions of americans who did vote for him that hes somehow a victim of some Conspiracy Theory that is stressing and stretching from coast to coast making the case without any evidence that this election was stolen from him. So we can imagine the president is really going to be spending this time as hes spent much of the past four years but now of course a loser then white house, a lame duck president. Hes going to be making up things and really hoping he can start to write his next chapter if at some point he comes to the conclusion hes lost this election. Ive been talking to people close to the president and they say the president has not even grasped the idea he could lose because you see him saying the elections not over. Hes making up all sorts of claims about ballots appearing from everywhere magically. But what we know here and theres a bit of poetry here. The president started off with a Conspiracy Theory for his political career talking about the birthplace for the first africanamerican president , and now at some point hes going to have to come to the conclusion theres an africanamerican south asian woman coming in behind him taking his place as Vice President elect in this white house. I wanted to jump in and ask you if i can between now and when the president elect becomes president there is a very important race taking place in georgia, and i think a lot of people want to know what kind of role will joe biden or Kamala Harris play to help secure those two seats for the Democratic Party . Do we expect him in addition to Everything Else that he has going on with covid, with the transition to head down to georgia and make a case for georgia to flip blue . Reporter you know, we havent heard from the biden team i guess campaign, transition, whatever we call them at this point about his plans for that race. But listen, the outcome there is absolutely critical. Nobody better than joe biden knows what the difference is of a 5050 senate potentially with a tie breaking vote in democratic control versus Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell capable of blocking his agenda, capable of blocking his cabinet nominees. And so i would expect to see the president elect and especially the Vice President elect potentially doing everything they can, whether its inperson campaigning, whether its advertising. But as joe biden likes to say i think theres also an appreciate sometimes what you see is an immediate effort by republicans especially in georgia to frame this is an effort to check the biden agenda in the white house. And so youll see this local state race nationalized very quickly, and it presents a bit of additional challenge for the biden team in how to address it. Certainly theyre going to do everything they can to try to put the Democratic Candidates in both of those races there in the best position to victory. In talking to folks what the president is going to do in the next three months, how hes going to comport himself, im sure youve gotten like ive gotten a big shrug, but what about the National Security part of this . Is there any concern among his more senior officials about what he could do in these intervening three months that maybe hes been pulled back from doing over the past four years . Theres a lot of concern from democrats that ive been talking to that the president could be doing things that might upend even more the Political Climate as well as it National Security climate in the United States. Theres been talk hes going to possibly move to fire the head of the cia, the defense secretary and others in his administration, people that he kind of has a made of list of that didnt back him in the way he wanted them to. But the president in some ways could really throw a wrench in the transfer of power. Usually in these situations you have the other president , the president who has lost and biden the president elect to the white house welcoming them, starting a transition for power and really welcoming him and doing the traditional thing you would do. Of course the president is nothing but traditional. Hes not at all traditional, and so there are a lot of people worried he could use this time to really have people that he thinks of as enemies moving against him in some way. There are a lot of people, though, shrugging their shoulders because they dont know what President Trump could do. I think were watching this space especially the National Security space pretty closely. Ive got to ask you pretty quickly only because its now become a reality that people want to know. Do we know what happens if President Trump does not leave the white house . Do you know is it the secret service, or what is the mechanism . What happens if the president decides forget not conceding, physically not leaving the white house . That is a great question. I dont think we we dont have an answer to that question because in the United States its never happened. Ive been hearing from sources that the president is probably not going to want to be dragged out of the white house. What might happens is he goes down to maralago and sort of quietly leaves. The other feeling is that maybe the president will actually concede because hell then want to Say Something about the fact he was cheated and heres the next chapter. Theres a lot of angst about that, but its not really clear what happens if someone refuses to leave. Because the president has done something no other president enu. S. History has done which is try to undermine and du delegitimize. The thought is he will leave early and then just not be there for any of the ceremonies. But, again, its up in the air. Its up to him i guess. Yamiche alcindor, mike, thank you very much. And tonight joe biden laid out some of his Top Priorities when he takes office saying his work to combat the pandemic starts tomorrow. On monday i will name a group of leading scientists and experts as transition advisers to help take the bidenharris covid plan and convert it into an actual blueprint that well start on january 20, 2021. That plan will be built on bedrock science. Itll be constructed out of compassion, empathy and concern. Ill spare no effort, none or any commitment to turn around this pandemic. All right, lets bring in dr. Vin gupta, pull monologist and Global Health policy expert at the university of Washington Medical Center and now one of the most prominent voices in our country. If i can, doctor, indulge me here with a two part question. One is a very straight yes or no. Have you been contact by the bidenharris team to be part of this team of experts since you are a voice in this country thats become so widely respected . No, i have not in this specific part of the campaign or of the transition. I certainly appreciate that because i was wondering because i know your voice has become so instrumental for millions of americans understanding what happens. The second part is if you were able to advice the bidenharris team and this team of doctors what would you say to them based on what youve seen over the past several months . My concern great to see you both. My concern is what happens the next 74 days and what happens in the next 74 days as an icu doc and reversest for the air force i can tell you right now we have reservest icu air force teams descending on el paso. We have hospitals in south dakota needing icu providers coming out from outofstate. So we have a National Emergency right now. The next three months will dictate how Many Americans will die from this pandemic. I think when we look back these next three months are going to be really, really critical to the ultimate course of what happens. So we have the electoral leadership we have right now, thats what we need to focus on. I will say this, i said this last night onair. Theres a lot of questions. So if you dont mind me clarifying it. If youre looking for a three ply nonmedical sort of surgical like mask this is the one to get or Something Like it. Its blue, its three ply. You can find it at any department store. This is what i was talking about last night. It is better than a cloth mask with one of those filters in place. This is what we want to really be focusing on, so thats number one. What i will also say is that the current president needs to be thinking about federalizing response. Weve been talking about this for nine months, so that means leveraging all military assets, for example. Theres a lot of assets we spend taxpayer money on, billions of dollars none of which has been utilized to its full effect. We need to start thinking disaster mindset and making saliva testing more accessible to school districts. We have a scenario right now where children are in school, we have adolescents and young adults in colleges, theyre not getting tested regularly. Whatever screening protocols in place are for symptom screens like fevers which we know are ineffective. So we need broad scale testing. There are ways to do that costeffectively. I think people are genuinely shocked that stuff is not in place given is its 8, 9 months since the beginning of the pandemic here in the United States. Just to go on the record with this and i think it gets kind of buried in the election week weve been covering but there were 128,000 cases overnight it making it the fourth day in a row that weve broken the record for number of people who have come down with covid in this country. 56,000 americans are currently hospitaliz hospitalized. And yesterday 1,097 people died. It is still very much a problem. Were not rounding a corner. Things are getting worse here. If you have a message to local governments right now for what they can do to get a handle on this especially in places where it wasnt initially taken seriously, not places like new york where, you know, we locked down and now everyones pretty serious about wearing a mask, even as they were celebrating today on the streets. What is your message to those local governments in places where people havent been taking this seriously . You bet, katey. Thank you for asking that question. We know deaths are spiking in 27 states. This is what i would say theres data coming out fairly compelling that places that are mask mandates have decreased hospitalizations a few weeks later. Id go a step further. Places that are but mask mandates are critical. High quality masks are absolutely necessary. But if you cant go for if you cant comply with a mask mandate do what the mayor of miami has done and other locales have done and enforce it. Thats where were at unfortunately. We have to take a tough mindset here and tough approach. We really need to be rethinking are children going to be going to school in person in the middle of environmental considerations, ie, colder dryer air and worsening pandemic without testing in place . What about Indoor Dining . We have more restaurants open for Indoor Dining for open table than we did back in april. It doesnt make a lot of sense, so thats the type of mindset. Place wheres this is out of control we need to think about banning Indoor Dining at least temporarily. We need to be thinking about virtual indoor classrooms. These are the decisions that unfortunately have to get made. Theyre being made in europe. Its not a lockdone but to save peoples lives because icus are filling up. I know restaurants are struggling right now, but i cannot fathom eating inside a restaurant. Get take away. Dr. Vin gupta, thanks so much. I appreciate it. And coming up President Trump may have lost but he will continue to dominate the Republican Party. What does that look like, and who are the top prospects for high ranking positions in the bidenharris cabinets . Were going to talk to one of the reporters tracking the picks. And a look at the runoff contest that may determine whether democrats can take back that chamber. Ermine whether democrats can take back atth chamber. Humira patients,. This ones for you. Democrats and republicans are aggressively mobilizing ahead of the two Crucial Senate races that have now gone to runoffs and could determine the balance of power. Nbc news katey beck is in atlanta. All eyes have suddenly shifted from pennsylvania to atlanta, georgia. Tell us a little bit about the game plan going ahead. Are we going to see some of these National Figures including the president elect, Vice President elect, and who else can we expect to see besides Stacey Abrams try to mobilize the vote . Reporter yeah, absolutely. I think you can expect to see tens of millions of dollars poured into georgia over the next two months as these candidates are in a runoff that could determine the power in the United States senate. I think the stakes are extremely high. And while the vote here in georgia is still undecided at this point, people are understanding that there have been a monumental shift that basically in a state that has not elected a democrat for president since bill clinton, this is major statement on behalf of georgia, and there has been a massive mobilization. A lot of people crediting Stacey Abrams with that very thing. The infrastructure, exposing some of that Voter Suppression and also just signing people up, registering them to vote. About 800,000 new voters were registered this time, and a lot of people hailing abrams a hero in her work in that effort. So moving forward i think georgians can expect to see a lot of Television Ads starting to air. And the focus now is going to shift from the president ial race calling these 16 electoral votes for georgia. Thats going to hang in the balance a minute to now focusing on those two high for file senate races, and those are also razor thin margins at this point. Neither candidate was able to achieve a majority. That is why they are in fact going to a runoff. Right now as the vote stapds in georgia, biden is leading by about 7,000 votes. But there are still military ballots have provisional ballots, at least 1,500 of them that need to be counted and reentered into the system. That is going to be taking place tomorrow were told. And then things will start to get certified and solid on monday. But then the secretary of state of georgia said this will ultimately go to recount, so it could be another week after that before we have some time results about whether georgia in fact did turn blue. I think people here are feeling optimistic that it did. When you wake up in the morning go to homegrown and get a comfy chicken bist. I used to live here. Im very familiar. Its one of my favorite breakfasts. Atlanta is a really great town. Katey, thank you so much. And lets talk more about the implications these Runoff Senate races could have the biden presidency. Joining us now is senior politics editor. So, beth, i think a big question a lot of people are settling into right now now that joe biden is the president elect is he going to be able to get anything done . And if Mitch Mcconnell is the majority leader what should their expectation be . Well, as you guys know the senate is a body where the minority can actually play a very large role as well. So whether or not Mitch Mcconnell is the majority leader or the minority leader he knows the tools of that institution better than anybody. And even as minority leader could put a big kibosh onto a lot of bidens plans if he so chose to do so. Now obviously as majority leader he would have more impact, more power. The senate has to approve all of joe bidens cabinet nominations. If Mitch Mcconnell chose to he could just not have hearings on any of them or not bring them to a vote which would require then incoming President Biden to have his cabinet sort of serve in temporary or acting positions. But you know what . This may not happen. The country has sort of made a decision here that they want to just change president s, and Mitch Mcconnell knows where the wind is blowing, and he also knows that there is a pandemic in this country and an economic crisis. And at some point all of these members of the senate are going to want to stand up and do something for their constituents. It is the best way for them to be on a path to be reelected in 2022. And given that is going to be Mitch Mcconnells main priority, whatever he needs to do to get those republican senators, to get some relief to their constituents and take some credit for acting and maybe working with the new administration could be good politics, too. Does that include health care . You know, its really hard to see that working outright now, katey. I think it depends on what happens at the Supreme Court. You know that the obamacare law is going to be going to the court in a matter of days. Could be decided later this spring. And if suddenly 20 Million People who currently have health care because of obamacare lose it because the law is overturned, there will be tremendous pressure on lawmakers in washington to come up with some sort of plan. You cant just leave people who had Health Insurance today to be uninsured tomorrow and particularly on the issue of those preexisting condition protections. Its just not tenable for these elected officials. So theyre going to have to figure something out. Particularly in the middle of a pandemic theyre going to have to come up with some sort of shortterm fix if not a longerterm plan later on in the year. Quick question on georgia since youve tracked a lot more than we are. If you thought the money spent on the jamie harrison, Lindsey Graham campaign was record shattering, with what do we think will happen in georgia . Obviously not the same time frame to raise that kind of money but certainly already people like Stacey Abrams are going to be doing a lot. What kind of impact do you think shell be able to have this has been bothering me. Is it effective . Weve seen these races that have gotten tons of money poured into them. Amy mcgraph in kentucky, the race against Susan Collins in maine. The money hasnt been effect. And thats right. And the democrats raised close to half a billion dollars to flip no states other than the ones that were predicted that arizona and colorado flips that we saw. All the rest of the close races this time did not flip. Democrats spent a ton of money that was not effective exactly as you say. Yes, there will be tons of money that go into georgia but you know whats going to matter more is organization and excitement. And with President Trump not on the ballot in january the way he was this time, there might be a depression in republican turnout. And obviously that would help democrats in georgia and this very big infrastructure that Stacey Abrams and others have built down there. All right, appreciate you staying up late for us. Thank you so much, beth. Thanks. The bidenharris ticket ran on a message of unity, but will republicans allow them to govern that and a list of people who could shake the administration. They are not our enemies. They are americans. Now that the election is over the real work begins. The Biden Campaign established a Transition Team months ago and a Campaign Source tells nbc news they will start on monday which believe it or not is already tomorrow here on the east coast. And with a transition period that could be messy the people selected to do that work is more are more actually critical than ever. Joining us now National Correspondent at new york magazine. His latest is this week emphasis cover story. How joe biden became president elect, a long and winding path to the white house ended with a tense the election week. Its great to have you with us. Lets talk a little bit if we can about what youre hearing with how a Biden Administration might look like. Will there be people from across the aisle . Will there be independents . Will they include progressives, how diverse will it be, and more importantly i think people want to know what kind of people are they going to see . Experienced politicians or fresh faces . Yeah, i think the easy answer, unfortunately, or fortunately but unfortunately for simplicity sake is all of the above. The Biden Campaign and transition has been talking for a very, very long time about dissemening what is essentially the most diverse cabinet in history. An interesting talking point seeing the lists for the cabinet heads, but also further down this is campaign, a team really around joe biden thats been around washington for decades. They really know their way around these agencies and around the various parts of discoverment. When they talk about diversity their nut just talking about ideological diversity, theyre talking about gender diversity, all sorts of kinds, age diversity. So i think were going to see a big mix of people. One of the Big Questions theyve been dealing with, though, recently in particular is whos actually going to be able to get confirmed to these cabinet votes . If republicans hold the senate its going to be a lot more difficult. There was a time there was an assumption in biden world he was going to want to extend some olive branch and name some republicans to the cabinet. Lets not forget barack obama tried to name three to his cabinet to join. There were a different names in there for a while, but that has sort of faded a bit according to a bunch of people ive talked to. But lets focus on the top jobs people actually know about for the most part. The people being talked about in those roles and i should caution we dont know with 100 finality are basically people who have worked in previous administrations and people who have known joe biden for a very long time. Let me talk to you about some of the faces we saw in the campaign trail in the Democratic Party. Theres talk about Elizabeth Warren. There was at least chatter about it earlier on. Im not sure how real it is now, chatter about Elizabeth Warren being labor secretary or treasury secretary. Theres been chatter about Pete Buttigieg, maybe secretary of state. What are you hearing . Theres a lot of question around this right now. This is one of the most fluid parts of the conversation largely because specifically when it comes to someone like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders said to be interested in a cabinet role at some point theres question whether control of the senate will make some sort of difference there. Joe biden has grown pretty close to Elizabeth Warren over the course of the pandemic specifically. Would he want her in the senate or want her in the cabinet and does he think she could be confirmed to the cabinet, and if that were the case does he want to risk down the line an inevitable special election. Its not clear. One person definitely part of the mix because hes not currently holding any office is Pete Buttigieg though a lot of his supporters do see secretary of state in his future just coming from the mayorish. A lot of people see him as sliding in somewhere else perhaps the u. N. Ambassador position in new york. Again, some of this is speculation. A lot of other familiar names including senator doug jones who just lost a seat in alabama, hes being talked about as a potential attorney general. Or Something Like tammy duckworth. Gabriel, thank you so much. Always good to see you even at this late hour. And are republicans ready to work in the new Democratic Administration . Our special coverage continues after the break. Get exceptional offers now. If there was one thing joe biden wanted to get across tonight it was his goal not just to unite the country but washington. But will a divided Congress Actually let him . The refusal of democrats and republicans to cooperate with one another is not some Mysterious Force beyond our control. Its a decision, a choice we make. And if we can decide not to cooperate then we can decide to cooperate. And i believe that this is part of the mandate given to us from the American People. They want us to cooperate in their interest, and thats the choice ill make. And ive called on congress, democrats, republicans alike to make that choice with me. All right, joining us now is the Senior Advisor to the Lincoln Project and former spokesman for the House Oversight committee along with the former deputy of media for Hillary Clinton and an msnbc contributor. Great to have both of you with us. Since weve been talking about this theme of a divided congress for a past couple of hours i want to get your thoughts on this as someone whos been on capitol hill. To some extent joe biden has the credentials to bridge that divide, but the reality of it a lot of people who may have voted for joe biden just dont believe someone like Mitch Mcconnell is going to be a person that can actually work with him. In fact, joe biden should not forget what Mitch Mcconnell did to their Supreme Court nominee merritt garland when he was the Vice President. I go back to what it was ike and the circumstances in which biden was assuming the presidency. Reminds moo me so much what it was like back in 2009 when barack obama was president. You had the republicans in minority in the house. You had them hell bent on trying to make barack obama a one term president. They used the microphone at their disposal to try to undermine some obalma Administration Every step of the way. And that gave republican an opening to try to use the levers of the house to distract the Obama Administration and calls for hearings and all the things we saw them do. And so you look at where we are right now and you have again a crisis that biden has inherited that hes going to have to come into thats going to rightfully take his attention thats a priority. And i think it Biden White House needs to learn lessons that the Obama White House experienced firsthand, which is they have to be aggressive. They have to be proactive. They cannot cede any ground to republicans because it republicans have shown theyre not going to turn over a new leaf. If anything the situation for biden has a more toxic Republican Party on their hands than obama ever had. People like matt gates or jim jordan or Lindsey Graham or marco rubio who have all become radicalized. Theyre not changing their stripes. Theyre not taking anything different away from this election. If anything because donald trump got 70 million votes they feel empowered to continue this. Especially when you consider the republicans that have come out and congratulated joe biden on the win. You can count them on my two hands and thats both senators and members of the house. It was hours besides anyone other than mitt romney in the senate came out and congratulated joe biden. I think Lisa Murkowski and, gosh, maybe one other or the only i said mitt romney, and thats it. Thats doesnt make for a very promising start. No, but i mean that sends a message, right . That means that the majority of the country has moved on. Donald trump is barely in our tv screens. History has moved on, and so republicans have to move on whether they like it or not. Now, the moment they move on they have to embrace and see something, a reality which is that there is no Republican Party. They dont have a platform. They dont have a vision, and today they saw a joe biden with a party platform, with a vision, with a message with very specific policies including that in the first hundred days he will end the muslim ban, hes going to protect dreamers and pass the equality act. When we look at republicans what is it that they have to offer . Theres nothing they can truly say, and so that is a problem. On the other side now theyre left with trumps base. A base completely manipulated, that has been lied to and so they have to think hard about what do you do with them . I can see from miami, florida, where ive been speaking all day to cubantrump supporters who will look at you in your face and say this is all a lie, right . That this presidency is headed towards communism. What do you with them if youre a Republican Party . I guess theyve got to figure out a way to speak directly to them, and this is problem a lot of democrats had with the way joe biden ran his campaign. He wasnt speaking directly to the cuban americans and venezuelan americans who are living in south florida and were activated by the word socialism. Is there a policy, an issue that joe biden can take up first . And i say this because i do believe the Trump Administration could have been different had he started with infrastructure, something that democrats could have signed onto, he could have built a relationship, a working relationship going forward. Obviously thats, you know, high in the sky. We all learned how donald trump behaved as president , and it was no different than when it was when he was campaigning. But is there something joe biden can start with . Is it infrastructure to build a bridge and start off with a working relationship . Yeah, i think katey obviously the First Priority is going to be handling covid19 and coming up with ways in which the cdc, nih, hhs can all Work Together and work can congress, actually have a uniform government wide voice that the American People can follow, actual leadership coming from the white house. Thats the first place to start. And i think most members of Congress Actually once the facts are able to be out there, once were hearing from doctors and scientists every single day, i think theyll get in line with that, our economic response to covid19, finding ways to shore up Small Businesses and unemployed workers. Right now we have more than 20, 30 Million People out of work right now whose benefits have expired. Those are areas of common interest i think ewell see something happen on and obviously infrastructure. Ill tell you one of the things that surprised me the most on Trump Presidency is he didnt do anything on infrastructure. You would have thought the guy who spent the bulk of his adult life putting his names on buildings and resorts would have done something on infrastructure because there is bipartisan support and appetite for that. And its something we havent seen. And i think biden will find a lot of partners in congress will be willing to work with him to do that. Stay with us. Were going to come back to you after the break. Click or call for a quote today. Asian, white, latina, nativeamerican women who throughout our nations history have paved the way for this moment tonight. Women who fought and sacrificed so much for equality and liberty and justice for all. For the First Time Ever it is madam Vice President elect. This is such a moment for americans but especially for women. We have been waiting such a long time to see a woman in the white house. And now we have Kamala Harrisvp. She said, paola, she may be the first but she will not be the last. Absolutely. The message that this sends particularly to young black and brown girls that have never seen themselves in the most powerful office in the country to wake up the next day after four years of living in a country that basically told many people, women, immigrants that they didnt belong in this country to wake up and know that someone like them will be running this country will take over Donald Trumps west wing, thats incredible. And so, you know, sometimes im at a loss of words because i feel like weve been running so hard every single day. And to now take it in, its amazing. Politics aside she said something in the interview that resonated with me. It was about how she was told at some point in her life to walk with her keys between her fingers while she was walking alone at night. And i was told the same thing when i was in high school. If youre walk alone at night put your key between your fingers and use it as a weapon if somebody attacks you, and thats just an experience that women in this country have had, ways to protect yourself when you are alone. And she will be the first Vice President whos going to bring an experience like that to the table. Just talk about what it means to have a woman in that role and what sort of Life Experience and what sort of empathy that adds to a white house that has never seen a woman in either of the top spots. I mean, she, again, she is bringing to the white house her story, her identity. And that means that for the first time theres a possibility to transform power as we know it, right to center women at the center of the agenda, to suddenly think of something as crazy as women getting equal pay, which the fact we still have to talk about this is crazy. You think about the fact black women are still not treated eequally in this country, and to see that the daughter of an immigrant is now going to be in the white house and that her main message today was about possibility, that was the core of her message, that gives so many people hope that never had it or have not had it in such a long time. Paid parental leave i know thats something you and i both are big on. Let me ask you in her role obviously as Vice President she would cast a deciding vote in the senate. She plays a very Important Role, will play a very Important Role. But lets talk about the senate for a moment. Lets talk about what you guys over at the Lincoln Project plan on doing when it comes to trying to tip the balance of power into the hands of the democrats. Yeah, well, i think the first stop for us is going to be georgia. Its really two for one, right . We have two special elections going on in georgia in early january, both of which could end up tipping the balance of the senate. So i expect thats going to kind of be ground zero for the political world once we get through the final certifications of this president ial election. The reality is weve seen that its possible for georgia to go blue in this election. And because of leadership people like Stacey Abrams on the ground, theres going to bean intensive effort to continue to get the vote out to focus on why this matters, to give joe biden the Democrat Senate its something that is within our reap. Its not going to be easy, some might say were probably the underdogs in this fight. I think as weve seen what Mitch Mcconnell has done in the United States senate for the better part of this decade going back to barack obama to what hes done with the Supreme Court that having the senate is essential to moving forward an agenda that the American People clearly want by putting joe biden in office. So the Lincoln Project i think is going to be very active and focused on what we can do to keep georgia blue in january. Thank you very much for staying up late for us. It was a historic day so we certainly appreciate both of your perspectives this hour. And certainly it is going to be a week full of history making moments when you see the Transition Team formed and the names. I know you and have have had to do crazy overnight shifts and neither one of us has slept, its wonderful to be here with you. The good news is that well be back here tomorrow at 3 00 p. M.
