The longest serving justice on t the court raised in queens, he died yesterday, apparently of Natural Causes at the age of 79. Flags flew the at half staff at half staff. The death has set up a big fight good morning. We have learned this morning that associate justice Antonin Scalias body will be under an autopsy. This as we are learning more about the conservative jurist who died unexpectedly on a hunting trip in west texas. This morning were learning about his legacy that will forever be remembered. Overnight, america honoring justice Antonin Scalia, by far the most conservative jurist on the highest court. He influenced a generation of judges, lawyers and students and profoundly shaped the legal landscape. Scalia, nominated by Ronald Reagan in 1986 serving 30 years on the bench, known to many as the anchor of the conservative wing on the wing, hell be remembered for strict interpretation and staunch defense of the constitution. Our country. He will go down as one of the great justices in the history of this republic. He reportedly died in his sleep of Natural Causes. Police in new jersey are investigating the fatal shoot offing of a man in patterson. They found the owner of a store, a 64yearold man with a gunshot wound. He was rushed in the hospital, but did not survive. Regular customers at that bodega were stunned to learn of his murder. Ive known him for about 15 years and i used to come by and buy stuff. Were not just seeing a few of those showing up. Everybody is dealing with a pretty severe wind chill. Going down to 30 below is the most severe weve seen on the map for monticello this morning. The winds pull back just a little and the temperatures come up just enough so well get into the Single Digits. The record cold is happening right now. 20 below through the midmorning hours. Snow is likely tomorrow. The temperatures will be getting into the 50s by tuesday. In the accu track right now, nothing to show. Lots of sunshine, beautiful blue skies , dont let it deceive you. The rest of the day, our temperatures make a slow climb, but it will take time. Next seven hours, Single Digits to low to midteens with a high of 17 expected today. The storm comes in, but its happening just as the the temperatures start to change. We talked about it happening just so fast. It will take ten minutes or less and you have a frozen, hard banana and its called a banana hammer because you can hammer if if we had a nail and we needed to hang something up. Its very cold out in. Below. Being outdoors for just a few minutes, your face, any exposed skin feels like its going to freeze. Wind chills up to 40 miles an hour, thats the problem. The cameras are shaking. Visibility and lots of sunshine, but its really going to take at least a couple more hours to get our temperatures into the single digit range and then the winds are going to start to pull back. It will be barable after noon. The National Weather service extending this warning until because of the temperatures and the winds and creation of the wind chills feeling like 20 below on the exposed skin. Thats the secret here is that anything where the wind can pull the warmth away from your body, thats where you get the most intense feeling from the wind and temperature being so low. So dangerous wind chill goes throughout the early part of the day. Record cold is happening right now. And people tell us that is the key, dress correctly. It feels like something sharp is cutting your skin. Its pretty bad, but whatever is exposed is bad. Im pretty warm underneath. Officers owner in patterson. They found the owner, 64yearold jose with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital, but did not survive. Factor in the wind gusts, which have been reading 35 to 40 miles an hour within the last hour and thats how we end up with the feelslike temperatures of 15 to 20 below. Weve got numbers showing up 31 below zero wind chill in monticello. Extreme cold. With wind chills like this, being outdoors for just a few then frostbite within 15 minutes. Its the exposed skin. Your body can only do so much physiologically to warm you back up. Thats the condition out there right now that you want to try to avoid. The new record low this morning and first 0 since 1994. 15 below on the february 9th, 19 1994. This is just a bragging right for february 14, 2016. The temperatures going up by 2 00 into the mid to upper teens. We think hell hit 17, 8 well hit 17, 18 degrees this afternoon. I think its a big improvement from where we are right now. Temperatures will rise over the next 48 hours fairly dramatically getting into the mid50s by tuesday. A storm system is coming in just as the temperatures are trying to rebound. Tomorrow its still cold enough to see snow at the beginning of the storm. A quick inch is likely, the timing is not very good. But then the warmth comes in rapidly. It looks like the front could pull inland just a little bit before the soaking rains and the temperatures in the mid50s take over on tuesday. Thats going to be a wet washout of a day on tuesday. As far as snow goes, not that impressive. There will be warmth on the surface where it could melt on impact. Tuesday, total rainout of a day. You need to be ready with all your rain gear.
