A published report says the Grocery Store chain owner will probably file for chapter 11 in order to restructure by the end of may. At the same time, the company is trying to keep most of its stores open. Fairway has reportedly lost millions of dollars in recently months. In recent months. People love fairway. Im surprised to hear that. Straight ahead. It is warm and sunny here. We like it. But in colorado, yeah, a little different. Dealing with a lot of snow right in the middle of april. I want to unsee that. No april showers in they are getting slammed with snow, in fact, theyre supposed to get so much snow in denver that its likely to top the monthly norm for the city. Now, travel conditions pretty treacherous in the area. More than half of all the flights out of Denver International airport have been canceled. Some places in colorado have already seen almost a foot and a half of snow. April. But we do know one person whos warm and toasty. Here in new york city. This is really happening. I went outside, talked to himself muppet bernie. The primary. He heard that Bernie Sanders will be here at 9 30 live for an interview onset. Obviously very excited. Random passers by. Can i get a picture, she what does he call himself, muppet bernie . Yes. I took a picture. Any doubt that the political season has arrived in new york, there is your proof. Good morning from muppet bernie right outside our studios. We had to share this. Were sitting here at the window, looking at him outside. I wonder if he can hear us. I dont know. Anyway, whats going on. Its beautiful outside. Its beautiful. Its absolutely gorgeous. Yelled was so nice. We had 68 degrees, and more of the same today. I would say even better. Even better. Nice. A perfect 10. A perfect 10, if you will. Temperatures a few degrees warmer and skies just as sunny and bright. Lots of blue showing up on our live cameras across the area. In fact, one of my favorites here, the empire state building, looking down at one world trade. Its almost like a postcard. Its so perfect out there. Hard to even search for clouds across the northeast because we have High Pressure in control, allowing for beautiful skies and high temperatures that will maybe get as much as 15 to 20 degrees warmer than we have right now on the map. And were already at 53 this morning. Feels nice outside. Winds are calm. Lows this morning started at the Freezing Point for northwest and central new jersey. So fragile plants last night. There was a frost warning. Hopefully you turned out okay today. But i think over the next couple of nights, we have no worries about temperatures dropping into the 30s because were going to have real mild nights following a temperature climb on the day even tomorrow. So we go back to the planning forecast here, and you can see it wont take long for us to get into the upper 60s. I think even by one, 2 00, we are pushing the numbers we had yesterday afternoon and forecasting a high of 72. The radar and satellite picture. Its walltowall sunshine. Not just for us in the tristate but the eastern sea board is looking good. We saw the snow coming from denver. Place and counting and this weather maker is actually pushing just to the north and trailing into the cold front pushing to the south, creating flooding rains there. What it leaves behind really is just this huge High Pressure system, and a lot of nice weather for the east, and this pattern is not going to be changing up anytime soon. So not only will we have above average temperatures, but also dry conditions for the next several days. Its a dry spell with these temperatures as much as 15 degrees above average. I mentioned that its cooler by the coast, we have another sea breeze. Beware of that. Heading down the shore, hitting the board walks, Something Like that. Future cast taking us to near 80 degrees. We arent the only ones, Williams Port forecasting 80. 81 for philadelphia. Its a nice trend that takes us into the monday afternoon time frame. By tuesday well cool down, and that will be a change up. Even then, well bounce into the 70s before the week is out. 1 05 first pitch. Great day for baseball. While its cooler at the coast, we will see temperatures that push the low 70s for the city and inland. I dont think well have much problem seeing the low to mid 70s across much of the area. By tomorrow, we start in the 50s, so were pushing the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Thats going to feel nice. The accuweather 7day forecast, the cool down is temporary for tuesday and wednesday. And 60s. Thats still above average and bumpering and bump up into the 70s for thursday. Your accuweather 7day forecast even the overnight lows are mild down the stretch, and that means that planting, looks like its a go, so very very nice. Hopefully you can get out and enjoy. Its going to be beautiful for the second half of the week. Dont worry about us, we always get out and enjoy. And hey, its our friday. Boom. Blow it up. Thats not nice. Youre theyre one of the wall street banks that triggered the financial meltdown Goldman Sachs. That put seven million out of work and millions out of their homes. How does wall street get away with it . Millions in Campaign Contributions and speaking fees. Our economy works for wall street because its rigged by wall street. And thats the problem. As long as washington is bought and paid for, we cant build an economy that works for people. Brook sticks and a golden snitch. Now, its not the Wizarding World of harry potter, just north carolina, the 9th 9th quidach cup, a mix of rug by, dodge ball and tag. The thing is, players have to do all of that with broom sticks between their legs, which could prove hazardous, but people have a good time with the nimbus 2000. Good luck to all. Were less than a day away from the Boston Marathon, and runners are already preparing. But survivors of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing have made an emotional visit to the finish line, and they were not alone. They brought along special guests, veterans they met while being treated at Walter Reed Medical Center after the bombing in 2013. Some of those Wounded Warriors i hope that the city comes out in force to cheer them on and their hand cycles and on their prosthetics because they deserve so much admiration for what they are capable of doing. Were exciting examples of why we are boston strong and american strong. The 26. 2mile race starts tomorrow at 9 30 00 a. M. And theyre running for so much more than just the exercise and the race but for those we lost three years ago, and for the spirit of that city, so that race will forever have such a added layer of meaning, so beautiful every year. Absolutely. And going back to the finish line just to be there in that place, together, has got to be so imimpactful. Making impactful. Making a statement. Were still here. It is 9 25. Time for sports with laura behnke. Good morning, everyone. It is playoff time in the nhl, which means not even taking a stick to the eye can keep a player out, not if that player days after sitting out the final two periods of the game one loss to the penguins, the king right back in net yesterday afternoon as the rangers tried to even up the series rangers answer, rapid fire style. Derik brassard, and just like that the the rangers take the 2 1 lead. Still in the second, j. T. Miller. Lundqvist with 29 saves this series, even at 11. We had a complete game from defense to offense, and everybody felt the momentum shift. They get a 10 lead. Youre going to have to be comfortable down some gomes and up some goals. Its a race to force. Well get ourselves ready for game three. Well, as for the islanders, they will debut playoff hockey at Barclays Center tonight as their first round series panthers shifts to brooklyners tied at 1 brooklyn. Tied at 11. The puck drops on game three at 8 00. The mets will be without jacob degrom after the pitcher was placed on family emergency leave as he attends to complications of his newborn son jackson. The team did not disclose the severity of the situation. Mets and indians, Curtis Granderson leading off the game sends that one out for the solo home run. While matt harvey he was perfect into the 5th inning, but trouble after that. Jason kipnis, the rbi double. The indians would get five runs in the frame, all charged to harvey. Still time to come back. Yoenis cespedes, thats as close as they would come. David wright the grounder for the final out of the game, 75, the mets fall. While closer to home, it was the yankees hosting the three game skid. Carlos beltran reason for optimism on the front, the double allows Mark Teixeira to score, and the game got away from sabathia in the 5th. Martin taking in deep for the solo home run to tie it. After the mariners then took the lead, nelson cruz extended it, extra bases with the rbi double that proves to be the game winning run as 32 the yankees indeed lose their 4th in a row. And thats your morning look at sports, im laura behnke. Were back again with you later tonight after basketball. Much more ahead on Eyewitness News sunday morning. Senator Bernie Sanders just walked into the studio. Hell be here live in just a few minutes. The democratic president ial contender will be discussing his campaign and answering several questions about his platform and where the race goes from here. Chevy expects volt drivers to get over a thousand miles between fill ups. Its got every technology there is. I believe were going to win here in new york. Bernie sanders sets his sights on new york this week in a race that could prove to be make or break for his campaign. With National Polls tightening, sanders and rival Hillary Clinton clashed at a fiery debate in brooklyn sparring over gun control, israel and wall street. I called them out. Secretary clinton called them out. Oh, my goodness, they must have been really crushed by this. Reporter on tuesday, its all up to the voters. Were doing something radical, telling the American People the truth. Reporter senator sanders brings his campaign here live, starts now. The race for the white house is intensifies in new york as the president ial hopefuls ramp up the campaigns two days ahead of the state primary. New york is offering the most delegates of any contest left on the primary calendar the candidates now looking to win over those undecided voters. We are joined by democratic challenger, senator Bernie Sanders. Thank you so much for giving us some time. Were going to do this rapid fire. Im in new york now. Yes, sir, thats right. No, yes, whats the question. How important is the new york primary, Hillary Clinton is up in the polls, you have the momentum, what happens if you lose. Were behind here, i think we have a good chance to win here. Obviously its very important. There are a lot of delegates and we have to win as many as possible. If you do not win. Were going all the way, every person in the country, every state in the country has the right to cast their ballots. All the way to the floor in philadelphia. Yep. Do you think thats good or bad for the party if the race goes that long. I think its great for the party and ill tell you why, the only way the democrats are going to win is when theres a large voter turn out. Were helping to create the large voter turnout, speaking to the issues of young people, National Poll out there now has us defeating trump by significantly larger numbers than Hillary Clinton is and thats true for the other republican candidates as well. I think a lot of democrats are going to look out there and say who is the better candidate to beat trump and the answer is Bernie Sanders. You get credit for pushing Hillary Clinton further left than she may have gone, do you see that yourself that you helped shape her. I would look at it a different way. I am talking to the issues that impact working families, the need to raise the minimum wage to 15 bucks, the need to make Public Colleges and universities tuition free, the need to pass paid family and medical leave, and the need to vigorously come back Climate Change and transform our energy system. When youre out leading and people respond on the issues, the need to demand the wealthy wall street pay their fair share of taxes, when people respond, other candidates have to follow you. Obviously she has done very well among minority voters, particularly among african to make those same kinds of inner roads. Why do you think that is and what would the difference between a Sanders White house and a Hillary Clinton white house. Two points, for a start youre right in saying thats where we started. We have come a long way during the campaign. Where we are now is among young africanamericans, the polling has us, i believe in the lead, where i would say, the African American Community Look at my record, look at our agenda on criminal justice issues, the need to reform a broken system, the need for real police reform, which hold Police Officers who break the law accountable. The need to rethink the so called war on drugs. Too many lives, black and white, and latino have been destroyed because of possession of marijuana, i would take marijuana out of the federal control, a substance act. Look at my economic agenda. Health care for every man, woman and child, u. S. Joining the rest of the industrialized world, making tuition free, Public Colleges and universities by imposing a tax on wall street speculation. Agenda and how it impacts working people, look at our criminal justice record it is the strongest record throughout. Sir, i want to talk at the Israeli Palestinian conflict. This came up on thursday and you said quote if we are to pursue justice and peace were going to have to say that netanyahu is not right all of the time talking about the prime minister. What do you mean by that, and what do you mean israel needs to move back to the 1967 borders. Terms of the general state, palestinians are human beings and palestinians are suffering, and gaza lies today in ruins and these are issues that we as with. Israel has, i lived in israel, israel,it has absolutely the right not only to exist but to exist in peace, in security and free from terroristic attacks. Theres no debate about that. But the American Government has also got to recognize that well. And what i meant by my statement, it was longterm if were going to bring peace to much hatred and conflict, we are going to have to reach out to both sides. A lot of news has been made out of the interview with the new york daily news, the narrative was that you do not as firm a grass p on the details. Start sanders long interview with the new york daily news, talk about judgment, and talk about the kind of problems he had answering questions about even his core issue, breaking up the banks, when asked he could not explain how that would be done. Two follow ups to that. Can you talk about the specifics, how you would break up the banks and one of your biggest problems is freeing Public College tuition, how would you pay for it. Free tuition in Public Colleges and universities is paid for by a tax on wall street speculation bringing more than enough money not only to do that but lower student debt as well. We bailed out wall street in wall streets time to help the middle class, and by the way, the owner of the new york daily news, contributed to the clinton foundation, and then printed up a transcript, you know what, i dont know if you have seen a transcript. It makes you look not so good. You do it through section 121 of the dark frank act which says that the fed can do a study with the federal Stability Oversight Council and if 2 3 of those people decide that banks are imposing a long term Systemic Risk to this country, ie too big to fail, they go down, half the country goes with them, easy way is my legislation, says the secretary of treasury in the first hundred days will make that same determination, and then begin the process of breaking them up. When you have a handful of Financial Institutions that today have Enormous Economic have the top six Financial Institutions having assetting, equivalent to 58 of gdp in this country, issuing 2 3 of credit cards, in my view they are too big to fail. I dont want to see them. I dont want to see us having to bail them out again, and by the way, you forget the risk element, thats just too much power in the hands of toffy people. Too few people i believe we should break them up. Secretary clinton does not. The lifeline of the city, one of them, how do you rule over the people on wall street. How do you make them comfortable with the possibility of you as president. Im not going to make the people comfortable. Let me be very blunt with you. As you know, just last week, Goldman Sachs reached a 5 million settlement with the United States government, and large banks reached larger settlements. Thats the simple fact, they dont give away 5 billion for nothing. Thats the settlement. They engaged in massive fraud. That is what wall street does right now. They are a danger to our of the American People. I think they have to be broke up, and by the way, i find that in congress, that some kid gets picked up with marijuana today, that kid has a criminal record for the rest of his life, the executives on wall street a have destroyed this economy have nothing in terms of criminal charges levied against them. Thats wrong. Can you answer the 1967 question as we go back to israel. Not right at this moment, emicant. What you need i cant, what you need is negotiations between the israelis and the palestinians and you have to work out a whole lot of issues not just border issues. Theres a lot to to be worked out and the United States should play an active role to precipitate. The tone of the race has changed, has your opinion of Hillary Clinton changed as a person and politician. I have known for Hillary Clinton for 25 years. In campaigns, things get very hot. Ive known her, i respect her, but i have been disappointed by the kinds of attacks her campaign has levied against me. See, and want to see right now is a debate about our differences on the important issues and the bottom line here, the major difference that we have is can you go out and raise huge amounts of money from wall street and the most powerful special interests and then go forward and say to the American People, im going to take them on. I think most people dont really believe that thats the case. How are you better, sir on supporting or representing women, womens rights and families than a woman . Well, i think my views are that i have been having i have had a lifetime prochoice record of 100 . I am fighting for pay equity right now. Women should not be making 79 cents on the dollar compared to men. And i think my economic agenda, the agenda that we talked about, making Public Colleges and universities tuition free. Having the United States join the rest of the industrialized world. Guaranteeing health care to all people as a right. You know what, that benefits more importantly than men. Also we have a dysfunctional child care system in this country. Single moms are going off to work unable to find high quality affordable child care. I will change that. And you have made some huge huge promises in this race, politically can you really get it done through congress if youre elected president. Yeah, when the American People are prepared to stand up and fight back, theres nothing that we cannot accomplish. But theres congress, voter and theres congress. Members of congress, i know them pretty well, if they look out and say millions of people saying we are going to join the industrialized world, we can do that. And when young people, and their parents say you know what its absurd that kids are graduating school, 30, 50, 70,000 in debt, we bailed out wall street, and now its wall streets time to help us. Whether its raising the minimum wage, gay right, whatever it may be, you can i am the only candidate who tells you no president alone can do it. We need millions of people active in the political process. Thats what were about right now. Senator sanders, thank you so much for being with us. Good luck. And bend sit Bernie Sanders sits down with george stephanopoulos. Fellow Hillary Clinton will be on the show. At eleven catch a special one hour edition of up close, our guests include Hillary Clinton, john kasich, and mayor de blasio, and Bernie Sanders thats sunday morning, this morning at eleven right here on channel 7. Our best fuel ever welcome back, the race for the white house takes an intense turn this sunday as the republican hopefuls try to make gains in the delegate count while donald trump still leads leap in wyoming. The republican race to the white house is getting tighter. Ted cruz swept up all of the delegates in wyoming handing donald trump yet another big loss. Isnt worried. His focus is here in new york, and he says hes the only candidate for the empire state, not john kasich or ted cruz. After he talked about new york values, and talked about it in such a disgusting way, this guy . And who in new york would vote for the other guy who is in favor of the nafta. Im sorry folks, you only got trump. Thats all you have. You have to have it. Okay. You will be so happy. You are going to be so happy. Reporter in most recent polls, cruz is the least favored republican candidate among new yorkers and while john kasich is in a distant second behind trump hes still showing his love for the state. Better time in any campaign than being able to campaign in new york. And while a contested Republican Convention could be on the horizon, it is not a definite just yet. Donald trump could still win the nomination, and the path to that victory starts here in new york.
