We are following, again, breaking news this morning where Authorities Say a man in queens died after a Police Involved shooting. Eyewitness News Reporter Kristin Thorne spoke with the victims relative this morning. Shes live now in South Ozone Park. Good morning, kristen. Good morning, rob. Still very much an active scene in South Ozone Park. What were seeing right down the street here. That black object lying in the middle of the road is a gun. It is the gun that police say they found here at the scene and it is now lying in the middle of 116th avenue. This is the official picture released by the nypd of the gun they say they recovered at the scene this morning. It was 1 30 this morning according to family members when 32yearold George Tillman of maryland was getting into his car with his wife and cousin to head out to go out for the night when officers pulled up. Family members say tillman began to run when he was shot. Tillman they say was a father of five, in town from maryland for a family members birthday this weekend. He was pronounced dead at jamaica hospital. We spoke with his aunt there. She says family members are it was a working young man. And a christian, a good father, and he loved life. You know, a licensed electrician. Good man. So, yes, the question is what exactly happened leading up to the shooting. Police are not yet releasing those details. They say they hope to have an update for us shortly. We will bring that information for you as soon as we get it. Ozone park. Eyewitness news. One airport has been closed after the control tower suffered significant damage. A state of emergency has been declared for six provinces there. Can a man caught in a high speed chase provide answers in the disappearance of a beloved priest. Rene roberts disappeared almost a week ago. Reporter police focusing on a 15mile stretch near jacksonville, asking people to look for any sign of the 71 yearold. Robert last seen a week ago that he was going to visit a patient in the hospital. Father robert was scheduled to commence services and when he did not show, this was an immediate indicator to those individuals at the church that something was amiss. Reporter investigators questioning this man, stephen murray, they call a person of interest in the disappearance. The 18yearold taken into custody after police say he was found driving roberts car in south carolina. More than 300 miles from the priests home in st. Augustine. Police explaining a rifle and other weapons were discovered in the toyota, but no sign of the beloved catholic priest. Investigators say robert, known for his generosity, and work counseling people in need may have recently helped murray after his release from jail. Father robert was an individual who reached out to individuals in need, and we believe that the father was attempting to assist him when murray had potentially taken advantage of that kindness. Reporter and police say chase, so he is charged with aggravating fleeing and attempting to allude. He is not charged in father roberts disappearance. A 3alarm fire left six families without a home in bloomfield, new jersey. Flames broke out shortly after six last night on charles street. Thick smoke could be seen for miles away on the garden state parkway. There were no reports of any injuries. The mayor of bloom field is asking for people to donate clothing to the victims. Among them, five young girls. Authorities are investigating a cyber attack that targeted the Newark Police department. Police Officials Say a virus shut down some of their Computer Systems for three days last week, blocking access to a program thats used to track and analyze crime data and another to dispatch officers. Police say the attack did not disrupt the delivery or no indication information was compromised. Police are looking for a man who they say is behind a bloody rampage that stretches from manhattan to queens. The nypd is looking for 53year old William Smith they say slashed a livery cab driver he tried to rob Manuel Rivera before he turned violent. Riveras coworkers as you can imagine are very much on edge. Im very nervous. All my drivers are working to support their family. You know, knowing that these things are happening, you know, and its crazy. Police say smith might also be responsible for killing a man in a homeless shelter on east 30 30th street. Wow, as for the cab driver he received 25 stitches and thankfully is expected to be okay. Also police in the bronx are searching for a suspect in a stabbing. Investigators say 31yearold Anthony Ramos got into a fight behind the Apartment Building with another man. Ramos allegedly punched the 22 yearold victim in the face, and stabbed him both the back and in the stomach. Ramos then ran away. Police have not found him. The victim did survive. The nypd says yesterdays happened in queens was a success. The 105th precinct tweeted this photo of the dozens of working guns that were taken off the street. 89 in total, including two assault weapons and 46 revolvers. People who turned in the guns at the evangel temple in laurelton were given 25 to 200. No questions asked. Fairway may be headed towards bankruptcy. A published report says the Grocery Store chain owner will probably file for chapter 11 in order to restructure by the end of may. There was a frost warning. Hopefully you turned out okay today. But i think over the next couple of nights, we have no worries about temperatures dropping into the 30s because were going to have real mild nights following a temperature climb on the day even tomorrow. So we go back to the planning forecast here, and you can see it wont take long for us to get into the upper 60s. I think even by one, 2 00, we are pushing the numbers we had yesterday afternoon and forecasting a high of 72. The radar and satellite picture. Its walltowall sunshine. Not just for us in the tristate but the eastern sea board is looking good. We saw the snow coming from denver. Place and counting and this weather maker is actually pushing just to the north and trailing into the cold front pushing to the south, creating flooding rains there. What it leaves behind really is just this huge High Pressure system, and a lot of nice weather for the east, and this pattern is not going to be changing up anytime soon. So not only will we have above average temperatures, but also dry conditions for the next several days. Its a dry spell with these temperatures as much as 15 degrees above average. I mentioned that its cooler by the coast, we have another sea breeze. Beware of that. Heading down the shore, hitting the board walks, Something Like that. Future cast taking us to near 80 degrees. We arent the only ones, Williams Port forecasting 80. 81 for philadelphia. Its a nice trend that takes us into the monday afternoon time frame. By tuesday well cool down, and that will be a change up. Even then, well bounce into the 70s before the week is out. 1 05 first pitch. Great day for baseball. While its cooler at the coast, we will see temperatures that push the low 70s for the city and inland. I dont think well have much problem seeing the low to mid 70s across much of the area. By tomorrow, we start in the 50s, so were pushing the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Thats going to feel nice. The accuweather 7day forecast, the cool down is temporary for tuesday and wednesday. And 60s. Thats still above average and bumpering and bump up into the 70s for thursday. I think its great for the party and ill tell you why, the only way the democrats are going to win is when theres a large voter turn out. Were helping to create the large voter turnout, speaking to the issues of young people, National Poll out there now has us defeating trump by significantly larger numbers than Hillary Clinton is and thats true for the other republican candidates as well. I think a lot of democrats are going to look out there and say who is the better candidate to beat trump and the answer is Bernie Sanders. You get credit for pushing Hillary Clinton further left than she may have gone, do you see that yourself that you helped shape her. I would look at it a different way. I am talking to the issues that impact working families, the need to raise the minimum wage to 15 bucks, the need to make Public Colleges and universities tuition free, the need to pass paid family and medical leave, and the need to vigorously come back Climate Change and transform our energy system. When youre out leading and people respond on the issues, the need to demand the wealthy wall street pay their fair share of taxes, when people respond, other candidates have to follow you. Obviously she has done very well among minority voters, particularly among african to make those same kinds of inner roads. Why do you think that is and what would the difference between a Sanders White house and a Hillary Clinton white house. Two points, for a start youre right in saying thats where we started. We have come a long way during the campaign. Where we are now is among young africanamericans, the polling has us, i believe in the lead, where i would say, the African American Community Look at my record, look at our agenda on criminal justice issues, the need to reform a broken system, the need for real police reform, which hold Police Officers who break the law accountable. The need to rethink the so called war on drugs. Too many lives, black and white, and latino have been destroyed because of possession of marijuana, i would take marijuana out of the federal control, a substance act. Look at my economic agenda. Health care for every man, woman and child, u. S. Joining the rest of the industrialized world, making tuition free, Public Colleges and universities by imposing a tax on wall street speculation. Agenda and how it impacts working people, look at our criminal justice record it is the strongest record throughout. Sir, i want to talk at the Israeli Palestinian conflict. This came up on thursday and you said quote if we are to pursue justice and peace were going to have to say that netanyahu is not right all of the time talking about the prime minister. What do you mean by that, and what do you mean israel needs to move back to the 1967 borders. Terms of the general state, palestinians are human beings and palestinians are suffering, and gaza lies today in ruins and these are issues that we as with. Israel has, i lived in israel, israel,it has absolutely the right not only to exist but to exist in peace, in security and free from terroristic attacks. Theres no debate about that. But the American Government has also got to recognize that well. And what i meant by my statement, it was longterm if were going to bring peace to much hatred and conflict, we are going to have to reach out to both sides. A lot of news has been made out of the interview with the new york daily news, the narrative was that you do not as firm a grass p on the details. Start sanders long interview with the new york daily news, talk about judgment, and talk about the kind of problems he had answering questions about even his core issue, breaking up the banks, when asked he could not explain how that would be done. Two follow ups to that. Can you talk about the specifics, how you would break up the banks and one of your biggest problems is freeing Public College tuition, how would you pay for it. Free tuition in Public Colleges and universities is paid for by a tax on wall street speculation bringing more than enough money not only to do that but lower student debt as well. We bailed out wall street in wall streets time to help the middle class, and by the way, the owner of the new york daily news, contributed to the clinton foundation, and then printed up a transcript, you know what, i dont know if you have seen a transcript. It makes you look not so good. You do it through section 121 of the dark frank act which says that the fed can do a study with the federal Stability Oversight Council and if 2 3 of those people decide that banks are imposing a long term Systemic Risk to this country, ie too big to fail, they go down, half the country goes with them, easy way is my legislation, says the secretary of treasury in the first hundred days will make that same determination, and then begin the process of breaking them up. When you have a handful of Financial Institutions that today have Enormous Economic have the top six Financial Institutions having assetting, equivalent to 58 of gdp in this country, issuing 2 3 of credit cards, in my view they are too big to fail. I dont want to see them. I dont want to see us having to bail them out again, and by the way, you forget the risk element, thats just too much power in the hands of toffy people. Too few people i believe we should break them up. Secretary clinton does not. The lifeline of the city, one of them, how do you rule over the people on wall street. How do you make them comfortable with the possibility of you as president. Im not going to make the people comfortable. Let me be very blunt with you. As you know, just last week, Goldman Sachs reached a 5 million settlement with the United States government, and large banks reached larger settlements. Thats the simple fact, they dont give away 5 billion for nothing. Thats the settlement. They engaged in massive fraud. That is what wall street does right now. They are a danger to our of the American People. I think they have to be broke up, and by the way, i find that in congress, that some kid gets picked up with marijuana today, that kid has a criminal record for the rest of his life, the executives on wall street a have destroyed this economy have nothing in terms of criminal charges levied against them. Thats wrong. Can you answer the 1967 question as we go back to israel. Not right at this moment, emicant. What you need i cant, what you need is negotiations between the israelis and the palestinians and you have to work out a whole lot of issues not just border issues. Theres a lot to to be worked out and the United States should play an active role to precipitate. The tone of the race has changed, has your opinion of Hillary Clinton changed as a person and politician. I have known for Hillary Clinton for 25 years. In campaigns, things get very hot. Ive known her, i respect her, but i have been disappointed by the kinds of attacks her campaign has levied against me. See, and want to see right now is a debate about our differences on the important issues and the bottom line here, the major difference that we have is can you go out and raise huge amounts of money from wall street and the most powerful special interests and then go forward and say to the American People, im going to take them on. I think most people dont really believe that thats the case. How are you better, sir on supporting or representing women, womens rights and families than a woman . Well, i think my views are that i have been having i have had a lifetime prochoice record of 100 . I am fighting for pay equity right now. Women should not be making 79 cents on the dollar compared to men. And i think my economic agenda, the agenda that we talked about, making Public Colleges and universities tuition free. Having the United States join the rest of the industrialized world. Guaranteeing health care to all people as a right. You know what, that benefits more importantly than men. Also we have a dysfunctional child care system in this country. Single moms are going off to work unable to find high quality affordable child care. I will change that. And you have made some huge huge promises in this race, politically can you really get it done through congress if youre elected president. Yeah, when the American People are prepared to stand up and fight back, theres nothing that we cannot accomplish. But theres congress, voter and theres congress. Members of congress, i know them pretty well, if they look out and say millions of people saying we are going to join the industrialized world, we can do that. And when young people, and their parents say you know what its absurd that kids are graduating school, 30, 50, 70,000 in debt, we bailed out wall street, and now its wall streets time to help us. Whether its raising the minimum wage, gay right, whatever it may be, you can i am the only candidate who tells you no president alone can do it. Police officer shot and killed a man in South Ozone Park. Eyewitness News Reporter Kristin Thorne is live in jamaica queens with details. Chris ten. Reporter kristen. Jr. Rob and michelle we have received updates. The man shot here attempted to pull a gun on responding officers earlier this morning. This is the 40 caliber that police say they recovered from the scene this morning. It was around 1 30 when investigators say two officers undercover driving on 135th 135th street in South Ozone Park saw a man standing by a double parked suv. They say that man was holding an open bottle of alcohol and they say they attempted to talk to him. He ran a short distance away. Three undercover officers encountered him. They attempted to talk to him. At that point they say he reached for his gun. Four officers fired on him striking him multiple times in the chest. He was pronounced dead at jamaica hospital. Family members identify the man as 32yearold George Tillman of maryland. They say he was in town this weekend for a birthday party. He leaves behind a wife and five children.
