Its a crisis facing so many College Students. Also graduates. Tuition turmoil. Well now theyre doing something about it. Nbc 10 south Jersey Bureau reporter cydney long joins us live from the Rutgers Camden campus. Some students and lawmakers are working to make changes, but there are some hurdles ahead. Reporter keith and renee, that is correct. This passed a small Assembly Committee today. The bill has a way to go before it would reach the governors desk. What lawmakers are trying to do is put into place a tuition cap or tuition freeze, if you will, for nine semesters for all public and private universities here in new jersey. That is about 4 1 2 years equivalent to what it usually takes a College Student to graduate. Now, lawmakers say it will attract more new jersey students to actually enroll in universities here and graduate instead of dropping out in debt and without their degrees for an out of state or Community College option. I just really think its a crime. The Interest Rate and the cost of kids today going to college. Its a crime. It really is. Its not easy at all. Its definitely incredibly stressful, especially when, with the job market being how it is and not knowing if youre absolutely going to have something, its very nerveracking. Reporter students and parents here at Rutgers University are anxious for this to get more attention in tren trenton, we also spoke to Rowan University by phone. They say it is a very complicated issue when this freeze would go into place. It may assist students who are pursuing their degrees right now but say it would also push that onus on to the next freshman incoming class and make their tuition fees higher that next year. Of course, the legislature will closely examine all of this before it were to reach governor christies desk. That is the latest live olt rat Rutgers Camden. Cydney long, nbc 10 news.
