Happening now, friends, loved ones, colleagues and members of the Philadelphia Community are coming together this morning to say farewell to a respected journalist. Funeral services for acel moore are taking place in germantown. Lauren joins us where the services are being held. Good morning, vai. If you were a journalist over the last four decades there is a chance you came in contact with acel moore. He touched the kinds of stories that we all see covered and he is credited to helping to change the wayafricanamericans are covered in the news and here at this church today, colleagues, friends, loved ones, they are all showing up to pay their respects. Not just from philadelphia, but people are coming from other parts of the country, as well, because of the impression he had on their lives as a mentor, as a friend and as someone who shared optimism and a sense of service. I talked to some of the people who say acel moore made a difference. To say without equivocation, i loved acel moore. He was real. He was authentic and his concern was for other people. He was almost selfless, in a sense. He was not only a mentor and adviser, but he also was an inspiration. He gave people a sense and a very easy and unstuffy way that they believed that they could do it. And this is just to look at a Beautiful Program for the services here. There are pictures of acel moore with his family and also with a lot of his colleagues and the people he made an impression on here in philadelphia. He worked at the philadelphia enquirer for 43 years and actually held an emeritus title right up until his death. Live in germantown, im lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. Happening now, president obama speaking to the National Governors association. This is the gathering at the state dining room at the white house. The president is taking questions from the governor and how to stop the threat of terrorism. And heres the hard truth. We probably lost even more americans than that to guns this weekend alone. On saturday, another one of our communities was terrorized by gun violence. As many of you read, six people were gunned down in the rampage in kalamazoo, michigan. Before i joined all of you i called the mayor, the sheriff and the police chief there and told them that they would have whatever federal support they needed in their investigation. Their local officials and first responders, by the way, did an outstanding job in apprehending the individual very quickly, but youve got families who are shattered today. Earlier this year i took some steps that will make it harder for dangerous people like this individual to buy a gun and we need to do more if well keep innocent americans safe and ive got to assume that all of you are just as tired of seeing this happen in your states. So thats an area where we also need to partner and think about what we can do in a common sense way and in a bipartisan way without the ideological rhetoric that so often surrounds that issue. A second area of threats that were focused on is cyber threats. The technology that connects us like never before also allows our adversaries to do us harm. Hackers and nations have targeted our military, our corporations and the federal government and state governments. Theyre a threat to our national security. Theyre also a threat to our economic leadership. Theyre a threat to our critical infrastructure. Theyre a threat to the privacy and Public Safety of the american people. This is a complex challenge and were not going to be able to meet it alone. Weve made a lot of progress these past serve years including sharing more information with industry and with your states, but all of us are still vulnerable. This is why earlier this month i launched the Cybersecurity National action plan and proposed a significant funding to push our cybersecurity efforts. You have been watching president obama speaking at the white house to the National Governors association and discussing stopping the threat of terrorism. Now your nbc 10 first alert weather. Sunshine, blue skies and some mild temperatures. Hard to believe this is february as we take a live look right now at boat house row. It had dropped down to the freezing mark first thing this morning for areas north and west and now in the upper 40s in dover and look at millville and Atlantic City at 48 degrees and the temperatures are still climbing and not a cloud in the sky and heres a view at the nbc 10 studios and 4 00, 50 degrees and it will start to cool down this evening and it will get chillier tonight and it will stay dry during the evening hours. Rain, thats due tomorrow morning and we have the sevenday forecast and how much rain to expect when i come back. Well see you then, bill. Justin is here along with brad marsh who is taking part in the Charity Hockey game coming up this weekend. And im not sure i pronounced the diagnosis correct its an inflammation of the colin, very similar to the Crohns Disease and its very difficult to tell the difference between them and it causes very bad diarrhea and tremendous weight loss, loss of energy and children have problems with size from it and for me it was developing into fullblown colon cancer. Whats your life been like with it . The last 12 years have been very differ culicult. A lot of ups and downs and being invited to parties and not being able to go. I started last year and checkmates Charitable Foundation and want only money as important as it is to raise money for these diseases and its awareness and we played against the flyers alumni and this is the second year doing it, and i know its too late for me to find a cure, and i have two little girls who were at a much higher risk of doing and thats why were doing this. So, brad, tell us about your association with this event. The flyers alumni there are a whole bunch of guys who have lived in the area and joe watson has done a great job for a number of years keeping us all together and were more than happy to help out with charitable causes such as this one on saturday night and we played a dozen games a year in and around the area and its a lot of fun to get out on the ice and bank some bodies. You guys help out with charities like this. And we love it. You know . We love the dressing room. As a former player, everyone asks what do you miss about the game and its great fun and before the game and after the game were ripping each other on how slow we actually are now, but justin has a great party and they are lined up afterward and thats where its fun because not only do we see each other again, but we get to meet likeminded athletes and fellow hockey players. And you shared some stories. As former flyers, you guys associate more and do a better job with that than folks like justin and people out there.
