'pertussis.'state health officials say there have been 161 confirmed or probable cases of whooping cough between august first and the start of this month. the health department says northern kentucky counties saw 27 new cases just last month ... most of them in children between 10 and 17 years old. old.the now cincinnati spoke with the hamilton county health department ... they told us there were 11 confirmed or suspected cases in the county in january ... and in december there were 18. part of the reason we're the fact that the vaccine appears to be wearing off... off...researchers found the booster shot that middle school kids gets protects 69-percent of them.but within just four years only 9-percent are protected. and you may not realize this but it's not just kids who need that booster shot.the c-d-c recommends people between the ages of 19 to 64 need to get a one-time whooping cough booster too. whooping cough starts like a common cold.but then the coughing gets worse and it can last for weeks or even months.it's more than just annoying.the big concern is if you get whooping cough and are then around a baby.if they get it they have a high risk of dying. there were nearly eight-year-old-boy in custody after he stole his mother's gun and tried to rob a store with it. ted white spoke to the mother about how this happened.
