Fema has an unusual way to predict the severity of a natural disaster. The so called waffle house index is predicting a rough recovery after Hurricane Matthew. Yes, you heard me right. The popular southern breakfast chain is known for staying open no matter what. So anytime one shuts down, it economy. So where is this thing right now . Where is matthew . Down to an 85mileanhour category one storm. Its going to be losing more and more strength as it pivots out into the ocean. Weve also got another system out here which weve ignored so powerful. This is Tropical Storm nicole. Nicole went to a category two storm briefly yesterday and then back to a Tropical Storm just winding down. Its going to slowly meander toward bermuda just as a winddriven windstorm. The thing about this morning, we have fog out there. We have this band of fog circling the city. Depending where youre at, youre seeing beautiful blue skies, but in some places you cant see anything because visibility is down to 1 4 mile in ym this should be burning off as we head toward 9 30, 10 00 this morning. Matthew down to the south, cold front to the west. Both playing into our forecast to some degree. The main storm will say to the south. You see what its doing. See the cloud cover . All of that kind of because matthew is lifting moisture over the top of us. And because of that little more moisture, when this cold front comes through, it will trigger off substantial rain as we look over the southeastern part of the state. Not everyone will get good rain. Broken clouds. That cloud cover will be thickening up. Look at the view from boston harbor. Just Crystal Clear right now. A little bit of cloud cover, but not much. 53 degrees and temperatures out there right now off our morning lows which were down in the 40s. We still have pockets of 40s showing up. Once the sun warms up, well burn that fog away. How about high temperatures today . Generally in the 70s inland. Cooler near the water. And with some elevation, worcester 66 degrees for a high. 70s today. The cape will enjoy temperatures into the upper 60s. This is the best place for seeing rain as we talk about tomorrow. Heres whats going to happen. That cold fronts coming in. Remember, all that moisture is in place because matthew is churning up the east coast. Then we slide this cold front into it. Later tonight, scattered showers are possible out there. As we head towards tomorrow, this is where well see our best chance, but notice where the best chance is. Toward the cape. Matthew staying way down here to this forecast. Eventually, this kicks on through. We go back to some sunshine as we head toward monday. Heres the forecast. Today, kind of fading sunshine. Its foggy right now. Well go to sunshine. Then well fade it back in with mostly cloudy skies this afternoon. Tomorrow, we have rain in the forecast. A little timeline. Heres the way the map looks at 8 00 a. M. A lot of clouds, a hit or miss shower or two. Then we get moisture bubbling up. From boston to providence and to the east, thats where youll get rain. Inland, gray skies. May even be looking at that will stay that way as we head through the afternoon, even into the evening hours, eventually clearing out as we get into mondays forecast. Clear skies will allow us to warm up into the 60s. Well have overnight lows down into the 30s. Frosty out there in a few spots. Then well get that sunshine coming back in the afternoon.
