Transportation reporter, adam tuss was at a general Board Meeting today. Reporter chris, i can tell you there was a different feel to this Board Meeting than a lot of other Board Meetings. Without saying it, some implying, that front line metro workers are not telling the truth about maintenance repairs to the system. Of course, all of this comes after the emergency situation last week at the Mcpherson Square station. A lot of people said that that particular incident was a incident a year ago. And then others saying that that relationship will i cat situation cannot be repeated again. Metro general manager, paul weedfeld talked about the possibility that some people may not be telling the truth. Im making that very clear, that that is not acceptable. And if i find that, obviously, that will not be tolerated. But so i do i definitely have a sense of a shift in the organization that theyre starting to shift the way i manage, to what i expect from them. Reporter several others addressed the issue of whether or not repairs were being made. Some even calling into question whether or not metros own watchdog needs to get involved in this investigation. Guys. Of course, adam, a lot of this these questions and the responses from weedfeld stem from those electrical cable inspections. Is that right . And what specifically is being called into question about that . Rte spoke incident a year ago, metro teams were supposed to go through, look at the cables and make safety fixes to them. A lot of them didnt have the proper protection. A sleeve that goes over top of them. Last week, a very similar situation at Mcpherson Square. Again, this is in germantown near brink road and blunt road and its pretty clear to see just how close some homes are to where that fire is burning. Pete per inger from Montgomery County fire is on the phone with us now live. And pete, i guess our first question is, is anything being done or you know, sort of stem that fire before it starts hitting those homes . Well, weve got a lot of resources up in that area, as you mentioned. This is not the first fire weve had today at the moment. In fact, we have two significant fires. But this one in the germantown area has encroached upon some structures. We do have units deployed in that area at this point. And for the most part, its leaves. And we know today was a red flag day. There was a very dangerous fire condition with the strong winds and the low humidity. So were not surprised about this activity. But nonetheless, we do have a lot of resources deployed in that area, including some large capacity water tankers. But this is just going to be some really grunt work we have to get in there and create a fire line, transport the water in to extinguish these fires. But, again, the weather is not in our favor at this moment. Pete, what are you telling people who live around there . Are you evacuating anyone . I presume they are. Im not on the scene just yet. Bu direction. But they have done some evacuations. Its somewhat of a remote area, as you can tell. But there are some homes. This is in the vicinity of blunt road and brink road in the germantown area. There are some homes that are close to the fire. Firefighters are with those folks. Im not dont have a number of people vacated at this point. But we do have some structures that being impinged upon by this fire. We also have a fairly large fire up in the black hills Regional Park area near the boat house. We have a lot of resources also in that fire as well. Pete, you know, were looking at pictures, olymplive pictures from chopper 4 and we can see firefighters on the ground, literally in the backyard of some of these homes, trying to put some water on some of the flames. And you see the smoke very close to the homes. But you mentioned this being a very remote area. What sort of problems or hurdles does thatr getting enough water in there . Well, for an example, we are bringing in largecapacity water tankers, and we will, you know, use thousands of gallons if necessary, certainly. Our fire engines all carry several hundred gallons of water. So we have to constantly refill those. Well bring in some fourwheel drive vehicles and be able to get those back in, as well. But, again, their water capacities are limited. So we have a water site using a creek, i believe, off in the area of brink road and blunt road. I believe theyre going to use a fill site, and typically well fill a looks like a Swimming Pool to the layperson. But, you know, a water fill site area. And well draft water out of that and fill our units as needed. But we have to shuttle that water back to the site, and, again, most of this its very lab orrous work. Well get back there with small hoses and rakes, essentially. But our primary objective here is topr all right. Pete perininger near brink and blunt roads. Thanks for being with us.
