Developing this morning President Trump not backing down over his controversial immigration executive order. Late last night he fired the acting attorney general who refused to defend legal challenges against that order. It comes on top of another night of protests here in d. C. And around the country calling for an end to the ban. Former acting attorney general sally yates is not convinced the executive order is lawful and told the Justice Departments attorneys not to defend it. President trump accused her of betrayal and insubordination and fired her. This morning the Justice Department has a new acting attorney general. Dana boente, and he is likely to be in the job for only a few days now because his permanent replacement, senator Jeff Sessions could be confirmed by justin finch is live at the department of justice with a deeper look at the new acting attorney general. His first order was to overrule his predecessor who questioned the legality of the President Trumps order restricting travel to the u. S. From those seven largely muslim nations. Boente is a name that some may already know having served as u. S. Attorney for the eastern virginia district. He was chosen for that post back in 2015 by president obama and he went on to make headlines for his corruption probe of former Virginia Governor whose conviction was later overturned by the u. S. Supreme court. The 62yearold has also served under republicans and democrats in his three decades with the department of justice. But his tenure as you mentioned will likely be brief serving only until Jeff Sessions steps in. Hes up soon as today and could be confirmed by the end of this week, which means should that happen in sequence that boente would only serve in that post as acting attorney general for only a matter of days, less than one week. Hes been a senator since 1997. Before that he served as the states attorney general. Sessions has faced accusations of racism. In Prince Georges County, police are searching for the man who walked into a gas station in District Heights and shot and killed another man. Those are the cries from a heart broken family who showed up to that station on walters lane. Police hope surveillance cameras may have captured what happened. This is the second homicide at that gas station in a little more than a year. Police do not think that theyre connected. Five minutes after the hour. Canadian Prime Minister is among more than 1,000 people honoring the victims of a mass shooting. Youre looking at video from a growing vigil in quebec city. Six people were killed inside a mosque there the other night. They were shot while they were praying. 17 other people were hurt. We told you two people were detained in this case. Now Police Believe only one was the shooter. They charged 27yearold Alexandre Bissonnette with six counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder. He will appear in court next month. A scary encounter for people taking the bus home in kansas city, a man attacked a female bus driver. You heard her scream for help and thats when a passenger started beating the attacker with his cane. He hit the man so hard that he broke the cane on his back. The bus driver was able to run off and call police. The attacker was arrested. The Transit Authority says they are looking for the Good Samaritan so they can replace his cane for him. Police hope that some newly released surveillance images will help track down a man who kidnapped a georgetown suntuden. They say earlier that day he killed his bosses at blue sunday bar and grill in bowie. Sources tell us the shooting was a result of a dispute over money. People who work at that restaurant are still in disbelief. Ive been shaking all day. I couldnt sleep last night. I know a lot of other people couldnt sleep, so its hard. Police believe that he worked as a bartender at the newly opened restaurant. He is expected to survive and be charged. A man is dead, his body found inside an Apartment Building in Arlington County and now police are trying to figure out what happened. Someone called police to the apartment on 7th road south yesterday afternoon. Officers found the 57yearold dead inside. They say his death is suspicious, but theyre not giving out many more details. They interviewed at least two witnesses. Those two are said to be cooperating and there is no ea the latest decision by the boy scouts of america could create some controversy. They will allow transgender children who identify as boys to enroll in boys programs. The organization previously relied on the gender listed on the childs birth certificate.
