assaulted, received trauma to the upper body. he was found in an area inside the hospital, nonb patient care area. he was pronounced dead at the scene. >> reporter: the hospital closed its emergency room and the facility was put on lockdown while investigators went room by room looking for a suspect. >> we immediately put into effect our disaster protocol so after we locked down, we started a series of e-mail streams to all hospital staff informing them every 15 minutes what was going on. >> reporter: detectives didn't find anyone. they with fought say if this was a random act or if the victim knew his killer. after four hours of searching, they determined there was no threat. >> today, the police conducted a thorough investigation of suburban hospital from top to bottom, and they feel confident that there's no danger at suburban hospital for patients, visitors, or staff. >> reporter: it made a stressful day even more so for people like jeff with a sick infant. >> we had to take him to the er real quick. so we got a little bit more than we bargained for. >> reporter: montgomery county police say they won't release the victim's name until at least tomorrow. the search for his killer continues. in bethesda, audrey barnes, fox 5 news. a live look at the capitol building. calm now after it was evacuated this afternoon. it happened after a pilot tuned into the wrong frequency on his approach to washings lost radio contact. fighter jets scrambled and everyone was ordered out of the building. the peed moppet airlines plane eventually established contact. the airline is investigating what happened. police in our area are on alert after the service weapon and badge of an npd -- mpd officer was stolen. police say the officer was pumping was when someone stole her purse. the gun and badge were inside. it's believed the suspects fled in a newer model mercedes. lights and sirens weren't enough to keep two emergency vehicles from slamming into each other in howard county last night. an ambulance responding to an accident on washington boulevard near howard lane was hit by police cruiser. the cruiser was traveling witnesses lights and siren but the ambulance apparently tried to make a u-turn. nobody was hurt. a neighbor says the reality of her friend's death in a new year's fire has not hit home yet. the man was found dead inside the house in temple hills early this morning. the neighbor says she was probably the last person to see the man alive. he had been at her house until about 10:30 last night. the cause of the fire is not yet known and the victim's name has not yet been released. the families of two virginia men are planning their funerals after a mid-air collision in the shenandoah valley. the two men were aboard a cessna when it collided with a medical helicopter. the plane was taking off as the chopper was landing. no one on board was hurt. nice start to the new year. we had temperatures earlier today in the upper 50s. currently 52, 56 in baltimore. 59 degrees in fredericksburg. north and west, you can see the first vestiges of that cooler air starting to move in, cold front moving through, and that will usher in this keeler and drier air as we get into tomorrow. there's your satellite radar. we did have a few light showers move through. just a few hundredths of an vinch rain. it's now down towards salisbury, ocean city. off to the north and west, shower activity as well. the thinking is some of this shower activity may get in here during the overnight hours and during the morning hours tomorrow. so when you wake up tomorrow still a lot of clouds around, and it is possible we'll have a few scattered showers out there, but as we get into the afternoon hours, here's the good news. looks like the showers will be out of here and take with it the cloud cover. things will start to cool off and dry out just in time for that redskins game tomorrow at 4:00. so generally this is a good looking forecast for our sunday. just going to be noticeably cooler around hear as we get into earlier next week, although this weather pattern relatively quiet for this time of year. there's your forecast for tonight. scattered showers, mild temperatures. just 44 for your overnight low. winds will be shifting out of the northwest, gusting at times to about 20 miles per hour. so we will have more wind around here as we get into the daytime hours tomorrow. let's take a look at the forecast for tomorrow. and again i mentioned the early cloud cover and the possibility of showers out there. high temperatures still not bad. 50 degrees. our average daytime high this time of year in the low to mid- 40s. about 43 here in washington. so this is still not too bad for january 2nd. winds out of the north and west 5 to 10. they won't be much of a factor if you are headed out to the game tomorrow. this forecast generally a good one, particularly for the last game of the season. your five-day forecast, 31 tomorrow night. colder air will rush in here. then your forecast for monday, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday featuring much colder air. highs each day will only be around 40. overnight lows in the 20s and low
