hillary clinton camp defending of course upon how those vote totals are announced. it's all very exciting. but the end result is already known. hillary clinton will indeed on this night make history. the delegates representing the democratic party are about to make history in philadelphia. 96 years after american women were first granted the right to vote, men and women will make hillary clinton the party's presidential nominee. >> this is what i know my parents, my grandparents, especially my grandmother who was an early active visit in summit, new jersey and to see a woman be president she would be overjoyed. >> reporter: on opening night of dnc, first lady michelle obama spoke growingly of mrs. clinton praising her grit and determination after a narrow loss in the 2008 democratic nominating contest. now says mrs. obama -- >> because of hillary clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the united states. >> hillary clinton has made more than her share of enemies during a quarter century as first lady, us senator and secretary of state. but most delegates at this convention believe she is more than ready to break through the highest hardest glass ceiling in all the land. >> if she become the president, i think it's going open the doors for more women leadership positions. >> reporter: around the can't about race or gender. i think it's about who's qualified for the job. >> reporter: well, of course, voters in november will have the last word on all of this, but no matter your party affiliation you are watching history being made right here at wells fargo center. iain, we should note that new jersey and pennsylvania delegations have yet to be announced. they'll be announcing to this big crowd their preferences in just a little bit. it's all terribly exciting down here. >> i can imagine, bruce, thank you. of course as roll call continues here inside the wells fargo center outside a number of rallies and protests are taking place across the city. a couple of dozen people filled logan square today where former congresswoman dab agree yell giffords host add recall toll reduce gun violence. the group is urging voters to choose candidates in november that had reduce gun violence. day two of the dnc bringing new protests across the city. >> fox 29's jeff cole is live at city hall with a look at today's biggest protests. jeff, how goes it? >> reporter: hey, lucy here's an experience you don't often get in the city of philadelphia. jfk boulevard i got the city hall in front of me, the municipal services building behind me, rizzo and a bernie bus and this area is completely block off. completely cordoned off. we had about 500 demonstrators who just came that was here. they are on their way down now to the park. they came through and then they cleaned the streets so the street here is as clean as will. let's take a look what was clearly a full day of demonstrations. ♪ >> day two in the dnc protest zone saw street theater and demonstrations. this man uses a mask to get his anti clinton message out. >> what do you think the 33,000 e-mails was all about? it's all this craziness and insanity that went on and we don't have any explanation, no accountability, no responsibility. >> reporter: all around him, fdr park sanders protesters railed at the system they say failed their candidate. >> we won't stand for it. there's more of us than there are of them. thank you dnc. >> all white people to move to the back. >> reporter: on north broad demonstrators got ready to take over the avenue mid afternoon protesting police actions and gentrification in north philly. >> i think the message is that black lives matter and that doesn't mean all lives don't matter, but until we have the same freedoms and justice and equality that everybody has we have to talk about black lives matter. >> reporter: that black lives matter is absolutely a recurring theme in the protester that is we've seen in the last two days. they are also the sanders, you know, bernie or bust people are also here pushing very very hard unfortunate just behind me on jfk boulevard police lined up, trash trucks in the way, completely cordoned off as a large demonstration the biggest demonstration we've seen so far has made its way through. i'm jeff cole live here in front of city hall. folks back to you. >> all right. thank you much, jeff. tonight controversial moment of the dnc will take the stage. mothers who's children have died because of gun violence at the hands of police will speak out. bill anderson spoke to one of those mother today's and also to the leader of philadelphia's police union who, bill, has been very outspoken about the dnc including them and not including police widows. >> yes he has us will see. jeff just touched on the or-going controversy. the dnc participants say that they've work hard to promote unity, but local police say in this particular area, they have failed. police believe it's unfair to invite some mothers who's children were killed during confrontations with police unless police are also allowed to speak. >> you have no further business with the core. >> mothers of the movement who's children were killed by what they call senseless violence will be featured speakers tonight at the dnc. the mothers of trayvon martin, eric garner, michael brown and others as well as a 15-year-old honor student gunned down in a park will share what they believe are necessary stories. >> i'm looking at you after being with you and i am in mourning right now. i'm in mourning every day all day. >> reporter: the inclusion of michael brown who's case caused national controversy spark local police to take a stand against tonight's speech. >> we're outside protecting those that are going to be out there speaking against us insi inside. >> when i shared the opposition with mrs. cawley she seemed genuinely surprised. she told me mothers of the movement is far from anti police. they just want accountability. >> we're not anti police at all. we just believe that people who have guns access to guns and use guns should, um, be the right people to have them. people that can use them under the right terms of capacity and the right mental state. >> reporter: president mcnesby believes tonight's speech is inappropriate unless in his words the police side is shared as well. >> we feel for those that are victims of crimes out there and we're out there doing a job to make sure, you know, we respond to that, we want to make sure cops are held respectable and have their side told. >> reporter: the mothers movement maintain that their speech tonight will address guns. it will address safety, it will not attack police. as an added note, former philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsay has been added to the lineup of speakers. lucy it does appear that at least in part the police concerns are being heard. >> all right, bill tomorrow night. >> he toll us he's not worried about bernie sanders supporters voting for anyone else but hillary clinton. >> no, i'm not. sanders supporters have a right to have an outburst. they'll be fine. look, they work hard. we want to show little class and let be be frustrated for while. it's okay. >> vice-president biden says he's confident sanders supporters will not vote for trump and teenagers accused of carjacking a woman at gun point in south philadelphia. it happened around 12:30 at front and morris streets. police say as the woman was getting out of her car late last night two teenaged boys pointed guns at her stole an i pad and took her vehicle. police later tried stop the car in southwest philadelphia where the teen driver they say crashed into eight park cars. both young men ran off. police found two guns inside that car. general mills is expanding a recall of its flower after possible link to e. coli. the company learned four new illnesses. the recall includes varieties of gold medal and signature coy kitchens flour produced on certain dates through februar february 10th. general mills says consumer should not eat the dough or batter made with raw flour and should throw away recalled products for information about the affected batches, you can visit our website fox29.com. a team of 20 delaware state forest service firefighters in colorado right now waiting to help fight fires burning out west. the firefighters left smyrna jester to lend a hand. large fires are burning in arkansas, colorado, florida and wyoming. and turning to our fox 29 weather cooler and also lower humidity. it has been very hot july. today's high temperature into degrees. the 13th day at 90 or above this month. 3 degrees above normal for the month and the heat wave rolls on. temperatures in the 80s. some 90s but not as hot as it was yesterday and temperatures will be falling through the 80s during the evening. very warm still at 11:00 o'clock this evening. with a temperature of 81. coming up little later on in the broadcast we'll tack about how how long the heat wave continues. dnc weather as we wrap up the week and weekend storms in the forecast. that's the "i don't remember." he's going like "i don't remember!" ♪ all right. fox 292nd day of coverage from here at the wells fargo center. democratic national convention. we are staying on top of the roll call results right now. hillary clinton got around 1500 delegates. still goes a way to go. she probably will claim this nominationomlittle later. thousands who are attending the dnc tonight figure out how to get to and from the wells fargo sent. >> fox 29's jenn four joyce is live right near us here in south philadelphia. where uber is taking full advantage of the inflict of visitors. jenny. >> reporter: good evening lucy and iain. hanging out here in the uber lounge. rider which is stop when they're going to or leaving the convention and it has ac, you can charge your cell phone you can see people reverend jesse jackson. he just walk. people are giving i wasn't we are high remark but there's no mode of transportation that's going to be perfect this week. >> cars struggling to get through green lights gridlock intersections around city hall. police officers stepping in to help. during the dnc with tens of thousands of visitors getting to and from is easier said than done. septa acknowledges it's been dealing with delays and detours as protesters block center city streets. septa spokeswoman is asking people to be patient and prepared. >> my biggest tip to be honest with you jennifer to take plenty of water. we're seeing a lot of people passing out because they're not hydrated. so, um, that's going to slow things up for us. >> reporter: people traveling to and from the convention center say subway and uber are the best modes of transportation and uber lounge is set up in lot b outside of citizens bank park. it has air-conditioning, charging stations and friendly faces. last night sharon coolidge said uber had mega surveillance pricing as the masses exited the a rona. >> our uber ride cost $13 during the day to get back and forth which is great and ubers have been great. the drivers so nice. last night they asked for $166. i know someone who paid $212 for the same $13 ride. >> reporter: and to that uber says that when demand is high, prices surge. that's just how uber work. but they also say they have a reliable service, and they let the riders know ahead of time what that estimated fair is going to be so they can decide for themselves whether or not they want that ride. iain and lucy. >> all right. jennifer, thank you. take the subway. a few tokens. >> we still have token. >> you can walk. it's not that hot out. >> unawake. >> took a little stroll l it was actually nicer today and thank goodness much the storms yesterday kathy i tell was, we had flooding in my neighborhood. >> oh, yeah. there was lot of flooding through philadelphia, along the schuylkill expressway low-lying areas. we had about two to 3-inches in less than half hour or so. so that rain fell very fast and furious. today a much different story. a lot of people outside enjoying the weather and why not? it's going to be a great evening. still none in philadelphia. the dew point at 65. so it's muggy but it is not oppressive. 91 in the city. 90 in pottstown. 90 degrees in wilmington. the dew points pretty comfortable for the most part now in philadelphia but they are going to be up. we were oppressive now we're pretty much at muggy over the next couple of days we go back to oppressive. this isn't going to be over just yet. a little bit more humid tomorrow. dew points in the morning are basically in the 60s heading towards 70 for philadelphia south and east tomorrow and that is in the oppressive category but i did not expect any excessive heat watches for tomorrow at this point. ing see on the fox future cast we have a partly cloudy to mainly clear sky overnight. and then during the day tomorrow, a few clouds ride up specialsly for philadelphia south jersey and delaware and during the afternoon we clear it out again. we have a mostly sunny sky and any type of pop you have up storms that would occur are more likely to be through baltimore, washington and central and southern delaware. the probability of precipitation really low tomorrow. a chance of a few storms popping up for thursday. a better chance unfortunately into the weekend friday and saturday. overnight tonight looking for temperatures in the 70s in the city. still muggy in the suburbs 69. during the day tomorrow, the heat rolls on. day sick of the heat wave, 92 degrees and partly sunny. on the exclusive fox 297 day forecast, 90s are wild through thursday then the storms bust the heat over the weekend. monday and tuesday looking good in the 80s. shore temperatures, pretty hot. pack the sunscreen. lower to mid 80s expected through next week. that is the very latest from the weather center. we'll send it back to south philadelphia and lucy and iain. it sounds so exciting. i wish i was there. >> i have to tell you, kathy, new york right now is pledging their delegates and this is where we'll we're going to have hillary rodham clinton become the official nominee at the democratic national party. can we listen in very quickly?
