I can still feel how the texture of the umbilical cord felt inside my hand as I squeezed the handles of the scissors. After severing one of the conduits of life, I turned to the doctor and said, “This is a miracle.”
A miracle that couldn’t be sufficiently explained by my science education. The child in my hands was breathing as I breathed, yet just a few hours earlier had been living underwater.
I believe children come into the world to teach us to love instead of hate, to create friends instead of enemies, to seek peace instead of conflict.
