It's a big problem in Watsonville and police are trying to enforce new rules that could be costly for those caught with illegal fireworks action. I've been here for several hours and I can hear the fireworks happening and this is what has many places like Watsonville cracking down early and Boston were taking a zero tolerance to The use of the illegal fireworks. It's going to be business as usual this year for the 4th of July, however, we have made a change to our fireworks enforcement efforts. The state is extremely dry right now and police are worried about people starting fires. The entire state of California is facing a drought. So the chances of fire sparking from illegal fireworks are pretty high to crack down on illegal fireworks. Police are upping the ante on fines. Officers will now be able to find tenants or property owners if there's evidence that illegal fireworks were at the property were sold at the property or were set off at the property. And on top of that, illegal fireworks are dangerous. People have lost fingers, hands. Uh, and of course, you know, not to mention potentially exploding in their face, and not to mention the effect that it has on pets. And then maybe people who have served the military as well, people suffering from PTSD, and that has Watsonville police taking a zero tolerance approach. This fourth of july, we know we have a illegal fireworks issue here in Watsonville, so what we're trying to do is really discourage residents from using illegal fireworks.
