Local masking policies differ
Some school districts stopped requiring masks this spring as soon as the state Supreme Court threw out the statewide mask mandate. Others have made the decision more recently.
The Howard-Suamico School District, a largely suburban district west of Green Bay, already told families late last month that masks would be optional in classrooms for students and staff during the coming academic year. Following CDC guidance on public transportation, though, masks will be required for students who ride the bus.
Some districts, including those in Madison and Green Bay, have yet to make a decision.
During summer school, a policy said face coverings were “strongly recommended, but not required” for students and staff at the high school level in the Green Bay Area Public School District, while the requirement still stood for younger students.
