Flames could be seen roaring all over the roof as firefighters rush to safe people inside. Our Melanie Alnwick is live on the scene now with the latest and, mel, what can you tell us . Reporter good morning, guys really scary moments for the residents here. They tell us that they woke to the sound of fire alarms, smoke, flames, just traveling across the roof of a twostory Apartment Building. When firefighters arrived here it was about 7 13 in the plg morning. Quick hal they had to sound a second alarm. Fire extended into attic and the roof area going to an adjoining Apartment Building and then there was an evacuation tone sounded all the firefighters had to leave the that was about 7 24. They also had to bring additional ambulances and medic units to the scene. It was very chaotic. One guy i talked to said that the management staff here on scene did an amazing job truly heroic effort on maintenance workers part. He said they came out and they were literally helping to safe people from this building. Heres the way another resident described the scene this mor morning. As im walking i look thed to the left, boom, theres like shattering windows, babies on the balcony crying. Asking me to catch me, catch me, casm me. Somebody catch me. Fire everywhere. Fire spreading at this time no ambulance, no fire trucks, very sad, you know. You see the Christmas Lights falling off the building, everything just coming down. We can tell you as far as injuries go, there were five people who were those are civilians and two three of those transported to the hospital. Also, weve been talking about reports there was low water pressure here. From what we were told from assistant chief Alan Doubleday this is a privately serviced hydrant area. Once it goes to private apartment complex, those hydrants are the responsibility of the private company and that they did have some maintenance issues going on but he said they often expect that to happen when they go on to private property with private hydrants. So they always bring backup water resources, and they also brought in additional trucks and they routed some other hydrants as well. So according to the fire chief he says those water issues did not contribute to any problems here on the scene. In fact he said they called wssc had wss pressure. Every day i just get up and i think what i have to live for which are and to try to remember that my daughter would that it is what my daughter would want me to do is to keep living my life and being here for her brothers. And when olivia called me and told me shed like to come to our alter cut support group she said i would like to come but i dont have a car. It was then that i reached out to one of our donors whose so amazing chris mill will he son and just asked him if there was anything that we can do to help this family, and from there, he said lets see if we can get them a car. It was amazing. Thats where we come in. Its a story about my character he gets out of prison after stealing a loaf of bread hes been put in prison for 19 years and he pretty much as to figure out who he is in society where hes a criminal he ends unstealing some silver and is forgiven by a bishop and he kind of goes on this request by breaking his parole to figure out who he is and how he can live in this world now. All while inspector xavier is tracking hip down hot on his trail through lifetime. For lot of people this is really a story of redemption and finding yourself and moving forward. Absolutely. Reinventing yourself which i think is so topical today. Were all searching. So topical today. Also theres i think that thats why audiences are connecting with our story so much is because not only is there love and redemption were you theres also fighting for injustice and trying to make the world a better place which i think is current today as it ever has been good do you think that thats why this play has been around for so long . It has stood the test of timing they years that this show has been running. Amazing. I think thats one of the reasons along with the incredible score and the music that just stirs people and also i mean people are coming back to the theater. Theyve seen it before. But theyre seeing it again and theyre seeing it in a difre characters. Bringing their children i love you can bring children to this as well. Yes. They can understand the st story. Themes resonate. Definitely. How did you get into the fold of being john val juan. Its one of those roles that i have been its a bucket list. Julie is. To be able to get to portray this character every night is something that is definitely, you know, the highlight right now of my career, and you know i went into an audition and one thing led to another and five call backs later here we are. Here you. Yeah. If how do you take this iconic role and make it your own. A lot of people have played john val john. How do you make it your own, authentic and still in peoples minds. What is great our directors james powell and Lawrence Connor really hark ken back to the book and they also allowed each one of us win the show to figure out who these characters were on their own. And so for me, it was a lot of taking what victor hugo had written, you k beautifully written to take that and to create it and to make the my own which is so exciting and i thank them for giving me the opportunity to do that. In night tonight is it different for you. Is there something that you keep the same and why. We have a different audience every night. We have people that have never seen the show before. We have people have who have seen the show many times. To be able to create every night something might be different a reaction might be different. But i think that that is what is so exciting about live theater. Theater is making a resurgence in my opinion. To me i think its because people are yearning for more substance. I dont know if im over paying that. What do you think . Would you say that youre fining that to be the case yes. I think so. I think that, you know, people like to connect with people on stage. Umhmm. In a screen theres kind of this disconnect. But when you can see a live person on stage, working and bringing you a story that you can connect with, i think that it just helps to reinforce it. Theater. Yes, we are National Theater. It starts tomorrow. Its a pretty three week run. Three week run. It will be great. Of course its going to be great. Youre in it starring in it. Again its a story that people think they know but when you have new people like you who put their own spin on it its a beautiful tale. You had such a short lived career with shabby jew your first big project closed before it even got started but you didnt get it get you down and copied kits and kens. Give us inspiration for the holiday. What kept you going that broug one of the main is family. Your family is thralls to pick you up when you fall. For them they tried to make you believe in yourself as much as they believe in you. Right. I think my family was one of the focal points that helped me kind of get over that and get back up on my feet, and couple months i opened up a new restaurant. Keep people around you. Very talented.
