A report that provides advice on improving teaching,
learning and assessment of technology and hangarau within
NCEA and the secondary tertiary education system has been
released today. It has been prepared by an expert advisory
panel convened by Royal Society Te Apārangi.
It
affirms that broad-based technology education aligns with
the goals of Aotearoa New Zealand to be a nation of
world-leading innovators and recommends changes to emphasise
technological literacy rather than technical
education.

Launched earlier this year, the programme is a part of
ChristchurchNZ’s and Ministry of Social Development’s
(MSD) effort to give residents of Greater Christchurch,
Selwyn and Ashburton whose employment was impacted by
COVID-19 a fresh kickstart in their career through starting
a business.
The region-wide call to action resulted in
the participation of over 120 residents in the online
course. 25 participants were then selected into the next
phase which was a deep-dive seven-week accelerator programme
designed to take their ideas to the next stage.

With hospitals across the country struggling with high
numbers of babies and young children seriously ill with
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and schools and
kindergartens reporting record numbers of children off sick,
it’s vital we all do our part to stop the spread of winter
germs, says the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ
(ARFNZ).
RSV is a common virus, and in many cases the
symptoms are like cold symptoms and can be treated at home.
However, it is also the most common cause of hospitalisation
for lower respiratory tract infections in
under-two-year-olds, and can cause serious illness such as

Nominations are open for the Clinical Informatics
Leadership Award 2021.
The Clinical
Informatics Leadership Network, (CiLN) worked in
partnership with Health Informatics New Zealand (HiNZ) to
launch the award in 2019 to recognise the leadership,
contribution and achievements of clinicians working in the
field of data and digital health.
Spark Health is
supporting the award for the third year, providing $5,000 in
funding for the winner to attend a conference or do further
study. They will also receive a free pass and speaking slot
at Digital Health Week NZ 2022.
