Even though the final whistle is about to sound for The
Economic Action Marlborough (TEAM) Group, it’s definitely
not game over for all those involved in Marlborough’s
Covid-19 economic recovery.
TEAM held the latest
Marlborough Covid-19 Economic Update today - Monday 5 July -
at which its second phase report was released, signalling
the winding down of TEAM’s
activities.
Infometrics’ Senior Economist Brad Olsen
gave the national and local economic outlook and a number of
recipients of TEAM funding talked about their successful
projects. The function was held at the Taylor Restaurant,
Clubs of Marlborough from 12.00 pm - 2.00 pm.

Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner Kevin Allan
today released a report finding a district health board in
breach of the Code of Health and Disability Services
Consumers’ Rights (the Code) for failures in its care of a
woman with an ongoing dental infection.
Following an
unsuccessful root canal treatment, the woman went to the
Capital and Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) emergency
department with facial swelling and worsening pain. Her
tooth was extracted and she was admitted to the emergency
department observation unit overnight before being
discharged. She was given antibiotics and a follow-up
appointment was arranged.

In October 2019, right before the world got hit by the
biggest global pandemic since 1918 (the Spanish
flu), a ranking
of 195 countries on their preparedness to deal with a
global pandemic was published, and the numbers 1 and 2 (top
scorers) on it were two countries that turned out actually
to be among the world’s worst on dealing with this new
coronavirus. #1 was U.S., and #2 was UK. #3 was Netherlands.
By contrast, New Zealand, which turned out to have had the
best performance among all of the wealthy or
high-per-capita-GDP countries, scored only #35 on it, while
two of the world’s very best-performing countries at

Health and Disability Commissioner Morag McDowell today
released a report finding a district health board in breach
of the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’
Rights (the Code) for failures in its care of a woman with a
liver lesion.
The woman presented to the Taranaki
District Health Board (TDHB) emergency department with leg
pain and swelling. She was referred for a CT scan which
resulted in an incidental finding of a liver lesion, for
which further non-urgent imaging was
recommended.
While the woman received timely and
appropriate treatment in the emergency department at the
time, further follow-up of the non-urgent liver lesion, in

Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner Rose Wall today
released a report finding a dermatologist in breach of the
Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights
(the Code) for failures in his care of a woman undergoing
surgery for skin cancer.
The woman, aged in her
forties at the time of events, was referred to the
dermatologist after a lesion was identified on the left-side
of her forehead. It was confirmed to be a basal cell
carcinoma lesion and the woman underwent Mohs surgery (a
precise surgical technique to treat skin
cancer).
