GREAT FALLS â The Cascade City-County Health Department is reminding people about the importance of car seats and seat belts.
The
100 deadliest days between Memorial Day and Labor Day is the time each year when the number of car crashes increases because more people are on the roads.
As of May 24, there had been 40 more fatalities on Montana roads compared to the same time in 2020.
Earlier this year, CCHD representatives visited each of the Cascade County high schools to observe buckling practices among both teenage and adult drivers entering the school parking lots. The overall average buckling frequency observed was 73%, however the lowest single-school rates were just 51% and 57%.
Montana on Friday added 149 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the state s total active cases to 853.
Cascade County still leads the state in terms of active cases. The county has 198 active cases, 8,875 recoveries and 170 deaths from the virus. Yellowstone County has the next highest number of active cases with 149. About 37% of eligible Cascade County residents have been fully vaccinated, compared to about 42% of eligible Montanans who have been fully vaccinated. About 23% of the state s active cases are listed in Cascade County.
Great Falls Public Schools as of Thursday reported 18 active cases districtwide. North Middle School reported four active cases.
Benefis Health System is holding multiple vaccination clinics, available to anyone ages 12 and older. People can visit www.benefis.org/familyvaccine to make an appointment. The clinics are held June 3 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., June 8 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 9 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and June 10 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Montana added 128 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, a number that s been creeping upwards over the past several days, according to COVID19.mt.gov.
Cascade County accounted for 42 of those cases, bringing the total active cases to 241 leading the state at 103 more than the next highest county. No new deaths were added Saturday.
Cascade County has administered 51,905 vaccines. Out of 68,949 eligible Cascade County residents, 28,648 have had the first dose, and 25,140 are fully immunized.
Of Montana s 111,168 cumulative cases, there have been 1,603 deaths and 108,624 recoveries. Active cases for the state sit at 941.
Currently, 63 Montanans are hospitalized due to COVID-19, and there have been 5,206 total hospitalizations.
