With just two weeks to go for the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and two municipal elections at Narsipatnam and Yelamanchili, District Collector and District Election Officer V. Vinay Chand conducted a review meet to discuss about the arrangements with the officials from the GVMC here on Tuesday.
Mr. Vinay Chand said that 1,712 polling centres are being set up for the polls scheduled to be held on March 10. He asked the officials to organise the elections with responsibility and coordination among themselves and make it a success. Staff should follow the guidelines and ensure a peaceful election, he said. With the conclusion of the gram panchayat and ward member elections, the stage is now set for the much-awaited elections to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).
The corporation will be going to polls after 14 years, with the last election being held in February 2007. With the YSR Congress Party going to corporation polls for the first time, things are hotting up in the city.

A street play being organised to create awareness over plastic pollution by the GVMC in Visakhapatnam city.

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), as part of Swachh Survekshan(SS) survey, has been organising street plays at various areas to create awareness among people on the growing plastic pollution in the city.
Members of the Rasagna Seva Cultural Association has been staging ‘Plastic Penubhootham’ street play at various areas.
The artistes are also explaining about various components of SS-2021 during their play.

VISAKHAPATNAM: The YSRC has decided to organise a rally ‘Visakha Steel Plant Parirakshana Porata Yatra’ covering all the Assembly segments on February 20 protesting against privatisation of the steel plant, YSRC Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy announced on Tuesday.
Addressing mediapersons, he said that the padayatra will commence from Gandhi statue at the GVMC office at 8.30 am and culminate into a public meeting at Kurmannapalem. “The 25-km-long yatra will cover Visakhapatnam East, West, North and Gajuwaka Assembly segments,” the MP said.
