Génesis #4 by Alexandre Arrechea on artnet Auctions

About This Lot Born in 1970 in Trinidad, Cuba, Alexandre Arrechea was an original member between 1991 and 2003 of the collective Los Carpinteros, along with Marco Castillo and Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez, renowned for their reproductions of simple objects in structural and delicate style on paper. After departing from the group, Arrechea continued their key method of impeccable draftsmanship and sensitive attention to the boundaries of material form, while beginning to address political issues at once both more directly and conceptually. Fascinated by contemporary cultural dynamics and interdisciplinary opportunities to explore socio-economic diversity, race, and the physics of urban life, he has taken on both public and private space to communicate an epic sense of human environments in real time. Arrechea has exhibited with Galeria Nara Roesler in Rio de Janeiro and New York, in the Gwangju Biennale (2018), at the Pérez Art Museum in Miami, the Bronx Museum of Arts in New York,

This way of thinking is how and why she strives to blend her traditional Japanese culture and practices with cutting edge technology, producing innovative materials in the process. As London’s Japan House prepares to open an exhibition exploring Sudō’s life and work, we speak with her about what visitors can expect from the show and how her career has developed.

Houston Reopening: The Return of In-Person Meetings in 2021

Send “Our message for a while now has been that Houston is open for business,” said Michael Heckman, acting president and CEO of Houston First Corporation. “We’ve been able to balance public health, while also being able to move the city forward. We see an increased desire not only for leisure travel, but also for convention business.” Indeed, Houston has managed to continue hosting events through some of the most difficult times of Covid-19, through a mix of fortune, planning, and investment. Through industry-wide initiatives such as Houston Clean whereby hotels, attractions, and public spaces across the city committed to enhanced health precautions and the new integrated viral protection system at Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston was one of the safest places in the country to continue holding events. Further, the city sought GBAC STAR cleaning, disinfection, and viral contagion accreditation for many locations and installed a new virtual studio
