The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is explaining what the new restrictions will mean for the region.
They say that in terms of the lockdown, the district is considered a part of Southern Ontario. That means that restrictions may only be lifted after 28 days of lockdown. In terms of school, in-person learning will return on January 11th for elementary and January 25th for secondary schools. Child care services will remain open like the rest of the province.
Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health for HPEPH, says there has been an alarming increase of COVID-19 cases over the last few weeks, and it must be brought under control. He says while the measures are difficult, they are absolutely necessary. He’s urging people to stay home and only go out for essentials, medical care and work. He says if everyone adheres to the restrictions, the district can help save lives and preserve the health system’s capacity.

What s the latest?
The Ontario government is imposing a provincewide lockdown starting Dec. 26, returning southern portions of the province which includes eastern Ontario to rules similar to early spring for four weeks.
Among many changes, that means only leaving home for essential reasons, delaying a return to in-person learning in schools and closing in-person dining and non-essential shopping.
The province says the coronavirus is spreading too quickly, causing too many people to need hospital care and die and those trends will continue, including spreading to areas with lower case counts, without a shutdown across Ontario.
OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health is reporting 31 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, as the province experiences a full week of more than 2,000 cases per day. There are 611 new cases in Toronto, 480 in Peel Region, 192 in York Region and 138 in Windsor-Essex. There are 2,123 new cases of COVID-19 across Ontario and 17 new deaths. None of the new deaths is in Ottawa. The figures for Ottawa have remained relatively stable and much lower than other urban areas, though Ottawa Public Health has reported transmission figures that have been stable in the Orange-Restrict zone. The rate of new cases per 100,000 residents in the last seven days has decreased, but the reproduction rate has climbed just above 1, suggesting viral spread is increasing. The estimated reproduction number is a moving seven-day average and has hovered around the baseline of 1 all December after peaking at 1.20 on Nov. 30, according to data from Ottawa Public Health.
