(LONDON) Britain s Prince Philip, a stalwart supporter of his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, for over seven decades, died Friday. He was 99. It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Buckingham Palace said in a statement Friday. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.
The Duke of Edinburgh was known as one of the hardest-working members of the royal family during his tenure alongside the country s longest-reigning monarch. Philip married then-Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and fulfilled thousands of royal duties.

Premier League games will go ahead as planned this weekend with tributes to Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away on Friday morning aged 99.
Premier League teams have taken to social media to share their condolences with the Queen and the royal family.
Some clubs, including Liverpool, are paying tribute by flying the club flags at half-mast in honour of Philip. Clubs will also wear black armbands and hold a minute s silence across the entire division over the course of the weekend.

British Royal couple Duke of Cambridge Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton expressed grief over the death of Prince Philip, who passed away on Friday at Windsor Castle.
British Royal family announced the demise of Prince Philip on its official Instagram and Twitter handles.

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle, the Royal Family has announced.
The Duke, who had recently been treated for a pre-existing heart condition and an infection, died on Friday morning, just two months before his 100th birthday.
