COVID-19: NSW outbreak escalates with 77 cases, one death
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says she d be shocked if there s less than 100 cases in the coming days as the Sydney cluster continues to grow.

NSW recorded 77 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday - the highest daily total since the Bondi outbreak began.
Of these locally acquired cases, 33 were exposed to the community while infectious.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says she fears the numbers tomorrow and the coming days will be much worse than Sunday. I m anticipating the numbers in New South Wales will be greater than 100 tomorrow. Now that s what I m anticipating, Ms Berejiklian told reporters.

The state’s contact tracers are facing the biggest challenge since the start of the pandemic, as the Delta strain starts to outpace them with a rising number of unlinked cases circulating in the community despite orders from the NSW government to stay home.
Health experts have warned even the best tracing systems will not be able to control the outbreak unless the movement of people is contained and testing rates rise, as Sydney recorded 50 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday - the highest daily number in 15 months.

Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant also pleaded with people to tell the truth to contact tracers as they were “having difficulty getting ahead of [transmission] chains”.
