THUNDER BAY – A COVID-19 outbreak declared more than a month ago at the 2B medical inpatient unit at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is now considered to be over.
The hospital on Tuesday said that as of May 1 it was 14 days since the most recent exposure, with no new cases among staff and patients. All control measures has been discontinued.
Outbreaks are declared in conjunction with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit whenever two or more people associated with a particular unit contract the virus and there is a chance it was spread within the hospital.
THUNDER BAY A 42-year-old Thunder Bay man has been arrested following an assault at an Amelia Street residence that sent a 57-year-old woman to hospital.
Thunder Bay Police on Monday said they were called to a home in the 200 block of the Westfort Street just after 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, following reports of an unconscious woman.
By the time police arrived on scene, the woman had already been transported to hospital for evaluation and further treatment of her injuries.
Police say their investigation revealed a physical confrontation had take place between the victim and the accused at the doorway of the 42-year-old male s residence. That altercation allegedly led to the woman s injuries.
THUNDER BAY A teenager has been identified as the first homicide victim in Thunder Bay in 2021.
Thunder Bay Police on Monday confirmed Liam Edward Simon Slipperjack, 18, has died of injuries sustained in a violent assault that took place early Friday morning outside a public housing complex on Limbrick Street. Slipperjack died on Sunday, two days after being taken to hospital for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries.
Two suspects have been arrested and are expected to be charged with second-degree murder. This is tragic, said Det.-Insp. John Fennell on Monday afternoon. I can t believe how tragic this will be to the family.

There are nine new cases of coronavirus within the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
Health officials also report Monday that there are six cases that could be a variant.
Fifteen more cases of COVID-19 are deemed to be resolved as the active case count stands at 48:
Five of the cases were obtained through someone else who had COVID-19
Two cases have no known exposure
Two case causes are pending
The Northwestern Health Unit is dealing with 75 active cases with another ten cases reported Monday.
Ontario reports 3,436 new cases of coronavirus along with 16 deaths.
