View Comments Firefighters battled a large fire at a southwest side business that filled the sky with thick black smoke Sunday afternoon. At 1:41 p.m., the Wayne Township Fire Department responded to Alpine Truck & Salvage at 2205 S. Holt Road, officials said. They were being assisted by the Indianapolis Fire Department. According to dispatchers, a large rubbish fire consumed a conveyor belt and spread to the building. Additional information about the fire and the scope of the damage was not immediately available. The fire was contained and extinguished by 2:40 p.m. As the fire burned, those at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Indianapolis 500 qualifying reported that smoke from the blaze could be seen from IMS.
