Junagadh, Gujarat:
Ahead of the local body polls in Gujarat, the police have seized 107 bottles of liquor, worth around Rs 62,000, sent to Junagadh from Uttar Pradesh through a courier service, an official said on Sunday.
Gujarat is a dry state where manufacture, sale and consumption of liquor is banned, and bootleggers are now using a new strategy of bringing in liquor through inter-state courier services, the police said.
Acting on a tip-off, the local crime branch and B-division police conducted a raid on a courier service firm on Saturday and found 107 bottles of Indian-made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth around Rs 62,000 packed in eight parcels, sent from Bahadurgarh in Uttar Pradesh, the official said.

DGP praises police force for extending good services at polling stations
In a joint operation, the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), Excise and Law and Order police conducted raids across the State and seized over 30,000 liquor bottles, worth ₹14.5 lakh, being transported to villages in a bid to woo voters during the second phase of polling.
Police teams arrested nine persons in different cases and seized a tipper, one tractor, a car and three two-wheelers, used for smuggling, said SEB Commissioner Vijeet Brijlal.
Mohali: Police have arrested two persons after 200 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) liquor were allegedly recovered from them from two different sites here on Tuesday.
Police set up a check post near the new bus stand and stopped the truck. Cops claimed they recovered 150 boxes of ‘Royal General’ whisky having the marking of ‘For Sale in Chandigarh Only’. The drive was taking the consignment to Amritsar.
In the second incident, Zirakpur police seized 50 boxes of IMFL being smuggled to Patiala.
A check post was put up on Patiala road. Cops said a canter driver attempted to reverse the vehicle and flee but was chased and caught. His assistant fled. Cops claimed they recovered 18 cartons of ‘Royal Challenge’ whisky and 36 cartons of ‘Royal Stag’ whisky from the canter.

Sleuths of the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate raided a beer bar in Virar for selling Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) on Martyâs Day (Saturday, January 30) a statutory dry day to mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, when the sale of any type of liquor is not permitted in the state.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team swooped down on Hotel V.V. Bar located on Agashi Road in Virar (West) at around 10 PM. The cops spotted several people who had crowded at the bar counter to buy IMFL which was being brazenly sold on a dry day.
