Summit County on Wednesday heard short- and long-term plans from the group working to alleviate trail overcrowding. The Snyderville Basin Recreation District has taken steps to address the issue, including ticketing vehicles that are parked illegally and installing trail counters to help officials plan how best to disperse traffic. Other short-term plans include installing bike racks at trailheads, and changing the direction of trails and the uses allowed on them during peak times.

The official who manages trails for the Snyderville Basin Recreation District recently described a vision for the future, a shuttle system that could pick people up from Main Street or transit centers and bring them deep into the Basin’s trail network. That would ease congestion issues and enable users to get lost in nature more easily than if they’d driven themselves and parked at trailheads.
