Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) share fell over 3% today after at least four workers died and a few others fell ill after inhaling a toxic gas leaked from a unit at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha.
The stock touched an intraday low of Rs 75.2 falling 3.53%, against previous close of Rs 77.95 on BSE. The stock has lost 3.85% in two days.

Company suspends two officials, promises support to the bereaved families Four contractual employees who were exposed to some toxic gas inside the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a subsidiary of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), died on Wednesday.
“Four contract workers of Star Constructions working in the Coal Chemicals Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant felt unwell in the morning. All of them were immediately shifted to plant hospital and thereafter to Ispat General Hospital,” RSP said in a statement.

Steel major Bokaro Steel Plant celebrated New Year’s Day on Friday by announcing its resolution to plant one lakh trees in the city in the next 12 months.
To achieve the goal, Director in-charge, Bokaro Steel Plant, Amarendu Prakash made an appeal to each family residing in the township to plant at least one tree in 2021, saying that the company will provide them with free saplings by installing several counters.
“We have four lakh residents in the Bokaro Steel Plant township, which roughly means one lakh families. If each family plants a tree we will achieve our target of planting one lakh trees in 2021,” Prakash said, adding that saving the environment for future generations is a major concern of the company.
Soma Mondal has taken over as Chairman of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) from Friday. She was the Director (Commercial) of SAIL prior to this. Before joining SAIL as a Director, Mondal was the Director (Commercial) at fellow Central public sector enterprise, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO). In a company statement, Mondal said that the first target is to improve the financial performance of SAIL. “Our immediate focus is to improve the top-line and the bottom-line of the company. We are charting out all strategies to improve value for all our stakeholders and make it structurally stronger”, she said.

Soma Mondal× Soma Mondal has taken over as first-ever woman head of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Before taking over as Chairperson of steel CPSU on Thursday, she was the company’s Director (Commercial).
“Our immediate focus is to improve the top-line and the bottom-line of the company. We are charting out all strategies to improve value for all our stakeholders and make it structurally stronger,” she said after assuming charge. Further, she mentioned that SAIL is a colossal organization, with multi-location production units & mines, wide-ranging product basket and diverse workforce. “People are its greatest strength and with synergized efforts of the entire Team SAIL, we will strive to attain the higher summit,” she asserted.
