Nebraska Restaurant Chain to Settle Sex Harassment Suit for $85K April 26, 2021
A small chain of restaurants in eastern Nebraska will pay $85,000 and issue an apology to a former teenage worker to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit brought against it by a federal equal employment agency.
The U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said on April 23 that the five-year consent decree takes El Vallarta’s Gretna restaurant to task for allowing a supervisor and workers to sexually harass the teenage girl from 2016 to 2017.
The EEOC’s lawsuit said the girl was subjected to groping from a male manager and repeated, inappropriate comments about her body from the manager and other male employees when she worked at the restaurant.

Did a Hospital Use the COVID-19 Pandemic as an Excuse to Fire A Pregnant Nurse?
Taking time away from work when you’re a nurse isn’t always easy, especially in the middle of a pandemic. Nurse anesthetist Maria DiMattio applied for maternity leave in early March 2020, but by mid-April, the hospital had informed her that she was being permanently laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
DiMattio claims that the hospital violated her civil rights and used the pandemic as a pretext for getting rid of her. Last week, she filed a federal discrimination complaint against the facility, but it’s not clear yet if the law is on her side.

DENVER â If campuses are the final destination for eager college students across the state, a vaccine clinic will be the first stop on the way there for many.
Earlier this month, Fort Lewis College announced that they d require vaccinations for students returning in the fall. On Tuesday, the University of Denver (DU) followed suit.
Kalena Johnson, a rising sophomore at DU, said she believes vaccinations will pave way for a more normal college experience after acclimation difficulties for her and many of her peers. It was pretty tough. I moved from the dorms to back home because it was so hard to get a standing and meet people here, Johnson said. If we do have all those vaccinations, I bet we will have more opportunities to open up.
