WASHINGTON â With only 2% of all naval officers making flag rank, Cherokee Nation citizen Wesley McCall recently made rank as rear admiral (lower half) in the U.S. Navy after 31 years of service.
âItâs a big honor for me to be honest with you,â McCall said. âItâs a big shock. But itâs just, I guess, itâs just a testament to all the hard work that you put in. Youâve learned along the way and I guess that the Navy has noticed that and thatâs based on what all these flag officers have to offer.â
Growing up in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and graduating high school in 1986, McCall said the interest to enter the armed services came from his father.
