Labor Dept.: Suits against restaurateurs for retaliation are rare

When the U.S. Department of Labor filed suit against two local restaurant owners for retaliating against employees who won back pay after complaining to federal officials, the case became one of only three of its kind in the past six months in all of New England.
Spokesman Edmund Fitzgerald said “retaliation” lawsuits against employers by the labor department are rare.
According to the lawsuit, Edwin Hernandez was employed as a dishwasher at the Ole Dog Tavern in Stratford when he filed a complaint with the labor department over about $20,000 in owed back wages and overtime.

What Happened: Ripple saw another major win by its legal team as a federal judge exempted Ripple s executives from having to provide their personal financial records to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Ripple Labs Inc is the developer of XRP.
The ruling was made by United States District Court Judge Sarah Netburn, of the Southern District of New York.
In the ruling on Friday, Netburn wrote that the SEC’s requests for the records were not relevant or proportional to the needs of the case.
