Existential crisis in Nepal deepens as SC rejects legality of ruling party s name ANI | Updated: Mar 07, 2021 19:50 IST Kathmandu [Nepal], March 7 (ANI): In a snub to caretaker Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the Supreme Court of Nepal on Sunday gave its final verdict in favour of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairperson Rishi Kattel over the dispute on the legality of the ruling party s name. A joint bench of Justices Bam Kumar Shrestha and Kumar Regmi heard the case filed by NCP Chairperson Rishi Kattel on December 7, 2018, and rejected the legality of the ruling party s name in favour of Kattal.

Nepal s Supreme Court on Sunday quashed the unification of the erstwhile Communist Party of Nepal (Unified MarxistLeninist) led by Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda . The CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) merged in May 2018 to form a unified Nepal Communist Party following victory of their alliance in the 2017 general elections. On Sunday, an apex court bench of justices Kumar Regmi and Bam Kumar Shrestha issued the verdict giving authenticity of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to Rishiram Kattel, who had registered the party at the Election Commission (EC) in his name prior to the formation of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Oli and Prachanda, The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported.
