Success eludes China in its bid to patch up Nepal crisis India Published: Monday, December 28, 2020, 13:39 [IST] New Delhi, Dec 28: A high-level team of the Communist Party officials are in Nepal to broker peace within the Nepal Communist Party, which is heading for a split. Chinese President, Xi Jinping sent a team to Nepal to broker peace after Ambassador Hou Yanqi failed to stop the split in the NCP. The team being sent by Chinese president, Xi Jinping is led by Guo Yechau, vice minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The team has been meeting with key players in Nepal and is attempting to patch up matters between the warring factions.

The dissolution of parliament more than a year ahead of the completion of its five-year term has plunged Nepal into yet another crisis. Bitter infighting in the ruling Nepal Communist Party, which underlies Oli’s decision to dissolve the lower house of parliament has triggered a split in the party. Nepal is likely to struggle with political instability, which will provide external powers an opportunity to meddle in the domestic affairs of this strategically located country.

updated: Dec 27 2020, 10:20 ist A day after Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal, a.k.a Prachanda, merged on May 17, 2018, China welcomed the amalgamation and the birth of the new Nepal Communist Party (NCP). “As a good neighbour and friend, China supports Nepal’s independent choice for the social system and development path that suits its own national conditions and we welcome the merging of the two parties,” Lu Kang, a spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in Beijing, vowing to continue “mutual cooperation for the benefit of both the countries and people”.

Scores protest in Kathmandu against Chinese interference in Nepalese affairs ANI | Updated: Dec 28, 2020 01:18 IST Kathmandu [Nepal], December 28 (ANI): Scores of people protested in Kathmandu on Sunday against Chinese interference in domestic affairs of Nepal shouting anti-China slogans and holding placards reading, “Back off China.” This comes as China s four-member team led by Guo Yezhou, vice-minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) arrived here on Sunday on a four-day visit in what is believed to be its effort to assess the ground situation amid the split in the ruling the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).  According to sources, Guo is expected to meet the senior leaders of both the factions of the NCP.
