As coronavirus cases continue to soar among young people, Syracuse colleges are bringing Covid-19 vaccines to campus. Syracuse University started vaccinating staff and students on campus on Thursday, and Le Moyne College ran a clinic today in partnership with the Onondaga County Health Department. New York state on Tuesday made the vaccine available to anyone 16 years or older. It’s part of a race to vaccinate those most likely to catch and spread the virus. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said the majority of recent coronavirus cases have come from people under the age of 40. On Thursday, the county reported 143 new cases, the most in one day since Feb. 1. Of those, 79% were people under 40, McMahon said.
