Covid update: Time to loosen vaccine eligibility, Ryan McMahon says Updated Mar 08, 2021; Facebook Share Syracuse, N.Y. – Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon today suggested that state health officials allow a broader segment of the population to get Covid-19 vaccines, noting that it is getting harder to fill up available appointments. McMahon suggested that state officials lower the minimum age for a vaccine to 50 and include more employment categories, such as hairdressers and salon workers. “Moving forward, it’s getting harder and harder to fill the appointments. That’s a good sign,” McMahon said. “Increasing eligibility at this point, I think, is warranted.’

Washington – A $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill passed by the U.S. Senate will help rescue cash-strapped local governments across New York and ease the fiscal crisis faced by Syracuse and Onondaga County, Sen. Charles Schumer said Sunday. Syracuse will receive $126 million directly from the federal government – about half of the city’s annual budget – under the bill approved by the Senate .
