Robert Bowden is well-known in the Pittsburgh arts scene, and a noted plein air watercolor artist of urban landscapes and other subjects.
Bowden is having an exhibition titled âLooking for that Momentâ at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Bedford starting on Feb. 6 and running until May 1, in the Ashe and Regional Galleries.
There will be an opening reception from 1- 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 in the Ashe and Regional Galleries with artist lecture at 1:30 p.m. The cost for the event is $15 per person for non-members or $10 per person for members. Seasonal refreshments and savory bites will be served. Reservations are required.
An OU professor was honored with the 2020-2021 Presidentâs Award by the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA) for his outstanding contribution to music education.
Professor of trombone Irvin Wagner was named as a recipient of this award following a 51 year career at OU. Wagner was nominated by one of his former students and orchestra vice president for the OkMEA, Sarah Chan.
âI was really surprised and excited when I was notified that I was going to receive the award,â Wagner said. âThe first thing that went through my mind was that I got nominated by a teacher who used to be a student at OU, and I thought that was phenomenal.â
Earlier this week, I was able to speak with Dr. Everett McCorvey who has been at the University of Kentucky for 29 years. Dr. McCorvey was the first African American to graduate with a doctoral degree in music from the University of Alabama. He is deeply passionate about ensuring all our students have the opportunity to succeed.
Where are you from, and how did you get here?
I was educated in the public schools growing up in Montgomery, Alabama. Actually, President Capilouto and I went to the same high school, just at different times.
After graduating high school, I went to the University of Alabama where I completed two degrees – a bachelor’s and a master’s – in vocal performance. Then, I moved to New York and freelanced for about 5 years before going back to the University of Alabama to complete my doctorate. Ramón Rivera-Servera appointed Dean of UT Austin s College of Fine Arts
Rivera-Servera comes to UT Austin from Northwestern University.

.-The University of Texas at Austin has named alumnus Ramón H. Rivera-Servera as the next dean of the College of Fine Arts. His appointment will begin July 1.
Rivera-Servera comes to UT Austin from Northwestern University, where he chaired the Department of Performance Studies and the Department of Theatre in the School of Communication. He was the first graduate of the Performance as Public Practice Ph.D. program in UT Austins Department of Theatre and Dance, and he will be the first Latino dean of the UT College of Fine Arts.
